Agree, one of the best in their genre IMO. One of the few bands that I can listen to over and over and enjoy just as much as the first time i heard them. I saw them at warped tour last yr i believe (or the yr before) and the guy that mixed them did a HORRIBLE job, couldnt hear the lead guitar at all unless you went right infront of his amp. Was still great but man it mad me want to slap the sound guy around.
The first time I heard "the new breed" like 10 years ago I became an instant fan and I dove into their early work and then when this record came out I listened to every single word like "ohhh wow they really have not changed ONE BIT as a matter of fact they've gotten even MORE religious! I LOVE IT!"
I'm atheist, but extremely well-versed in the biblical scriptures. I can appreciate the hell out of the lyrics. All Oh, Sleeper lyrics are rife with biblical parallels. I love it.
Heyhey may you experience in a great encounter and revelation this God whom they are singing about and whom the entire bible testifies of. His love and power and wisdom is so incredible it is unexplainable and I desire for everyone to have the experience and encounters and revelation that I had the opportunity to have. Jesus is very real. I first got this song when I was grade 11 , 17 years old from a friend and I couldn't hear all the lyrics but got goosebumps. When I googled it later I cried as it has such strong meaning to me. My life had just turned around in an awesome way and we had a powerful prayer group at school that grew so big and people enjoyed what we did and loved God and loved one another. The word "fire" had a new meaning to me as I experienced the fire of God so many times and His electricity going through my body and healing me. It is a feeling I am in love with until this day. So this song encouraged me even more to stand strong. I came across the lyrics today on my Facebook memories that I had screenshot that time lol. Was just speaking to my metalhead friend in America last night for the first time in weeks and I met him 11 years ago through Demon Hunter Facebook page , haha. So I came to listen to this song and send him the link just now and then saw the comments. ❤ how cool is it all.
Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil. Does it get any more metal than that? Mind you, Ive heard metal songs that are "about God", that, if listened to with an ounce of wisdom, are quite plainly speaking of the devil. People are so deceived
This could change your life. You as an individual are inevitably going to die someday. It happens to everyone on our planet. However as a species humans live on and reproduce. Consider the existence of other selves. For example your relatives , celebrities , sex slaves , factory workers and anybody you can think of. Somebody has to be them. Everyone on this planet came here because two people had sex. We also all start as crying/screaming babies with no knowledge. Even the elite start the same way and inevitably die. What about non-human organisms? Somebody has to be the dog , the bird , the ant and so on , right? This kind of thinking leads me to believe that as a species we should be concerned with taking care of each other as well as the environment that we depend on. Nobody likes to suffer , but so many do. Our world is broken and we could potentially fix it. If you are capable please help. Please share.
When you know the story, the narrative of the album it becomes really interesting. A world in where God was a person, a physical entity that people could see, touch and believe in. Who just up and disappears, leaving the world to fall into turmoil, to test their faith. Hell of a story, and hell of an album. Love these guys!
That's been the story from the beginning. When God was walking in the garden of Eden, he was looking to play fun games with His creation, but Adam & Eve hid and He had to leave. I am aware there's more to story, but my theology teacher in High School framed it that way and I thought it was a cool outlook.
Even me! 😯 I had goosebumps the first time I heard it and couldn't even hear all the lyrics. When I googled it I cried as it touched me so much! I was also very on fire for God that time and had seen His power and fire and presence so much and this reminded me of that and that we should not give up
What descends feels like heaven on my skin! Finally I am free to never breathe again! My body lifts from the ground I was rooted in! And I pass the spark as it races through the rest of them! Purely awesome! I discovered this band today and I already can't get enough of their songs!
Man, this album is so nostalgic to me. I was 13 years old when this album came out, back when I first found this band, and it's already been 5 years. Time flies, can't wait for the new album!
Fabio Pires lol it's taking so long man. It's because of Shane's side project with Woven War. It's been tough trying to write some music. I love their new single though, Oxygen.
These Songs Blow pretty much every other band out of the water. By far the lyrical Depth is amazing. I love this band with a passion and I love God Even more!
Often times i think the same thing. Most of the time actually. But we must realize that that wish will only bring death and suffering. Every day brings more life into this earth, and everyday there is potential for Gods family to grow bigger. Instead of wishing for the end, lets be thankful for the days we still have, although that may become increasingly difficult.
You're right Bruce Wayne, it is selfish of me actually to want this, I know. But the suffering has to end sometime, and I can barely wait for the 7 years to be over and the 1000 year reign to begin....I have dreams about the "reconstruction and renewal" of our earth that we have for so long abused and used.
Manabind Remar yeah itll be great once the seven years are over, but you know what it says about worrying about the future: you cant change one hair on your head by worrying. Basically live in the moment, and find how to appreciate the time you still have. When the time calls for us to take a stand, then we shall be ready.
I saw your guy's conversation and my heart was touched. You need to know, Revelation chapters 17 ,18 and latter 16 speak of Mystery Babylon. According to the angel's interpretation, it is a city. Not some world gov't type of thing. Which city might that be? Some say Vatican, some say Mecca, others may say actual babylon which was in Iraq. Do you want to know what Jesus says this city will be? Compare Revelation 18:24 with Luke 13:33-34. Go ahead, the 4 beasts of Daniel form the beast of Revelation. 7 heads and 10 horns. The mark of the beast is referenced as the splendor of Solomon. 1 Kings 10:14. Are you getting it yet? Jerusalem is Mystery Babylon.
I am an older guy that was around during Chariot, showbread, as cities burn, and he is legend. This band has brought me back to the hardcore genre. Such good music.
James Erwin explains in an interview that the new album takes place after "Son of the Morning" and follows the life of a priest and his atheist daughter. The album is a spin on the rapture and explores how people would react in end times. At the beginning of the record, the priest takes the role of judge now that he thinks God is dead and follows the daughter's path of finding God throughout the record
Thats exactly how i interpreted it, which i actually have a huge problem with. God cannot die, he is always living. So it seems like this album is a mix of anger towards God for leaving and finding strength through your own power, not Gods, which are both incredibly WRONG. This band is awesome and this song especially resonates within me, so could someone clarify this meaning, and present how it is not completely false.
+Bruce Wayne people see God vanish and thus conclude that he is dead. The new leader takes this opportunity to reject God and spread the message that God is indeed dead so that he can obtain power for himself. God, is not dead though as he appears throughout guiding the main heroine throughout the album. She asks for the Means to Believe and you hear God speak to her before she commits her great sin in killing her father. She rejects him and still you see He holds on to her. In Chewing the Stitch, you see her asking God to be the voice that everyone else needs to believe in Him. We see this time and time again, where people giving up faith because God no longer exists for them, this album starts off with a confusing scene where people see both God and Satan vanish after one final battle between the two left wondering if they are both dead. You see this happen in the Gospels when Jesus dies and people lose faith that he is the Christ, yet he later appears to people and they believe. A similar kind of thing is happening on this album (yet in context, God never truly dies this time). It is most definitely by her own power that she finds strength. I mean, God remarks that it is He that has been urging her on throughout the story.
+José Garcia I agree. I don't believe in the whole Christianity thing, but I can still enjoy the art it releases. This band is pretty Badass, regardless of their beliefs.
actually, apathy is a sin. If you do not like the message then you do not like the band. heard of that song "he's the one who likes all our pretty songs who likes all our pretty songs and he likes to sing a long and he likes to shoot his gun, but he don't know what it means, he don't know what it means..." anyway that would be the way i explained it. so if you do not like the holy bible and you like the music, then in actuality you like the holy bible. because from the foundation of the holy bible comes the music. they set out to fulfill His Will and now they have this music in fulfillment so... Mind you "HE was the cornerstone the builders rejected."
if you do not like oh sleeper's holy bible message then they're probably praying against you and you are the problem. they're singing against you. you did not realize? be of the way of life for the way of death is full of apathetic madnesses murder worries strife avarice gluttony sloth and much more. damn these sins in the name of The One True Messiah.
I think you need to rethink your claim to atheism then because confronting this lunacy even if it means hurting feelings is what this movement is about. If you aren't willing to do so then maybe agnostic is the way for you to go. There are no half measures in this conflict.
Inthismomenarmy Respecting others beliefs goes beyond religion. It's not about 'hurting feeling's or 'tough love' or pretending to be intelligent and above others just because you want to be special; it's called being a decent human being. You want to fight a war of words, go for it, it'll never get you anywhere. The kind of atheists who bash God/Allah/Yahweh etc. are just as bad as the radicals who preach the same kind of hatred. People like you are why lack of religion is frowned upon and thought of as hedonistic.
I agree it doesn't matter what You believe or not if You believe in energy or whatever anyone can like something as simple as art or music and doesn't have to be specific held on to one belief or idea
I mean it's not wrong to not be a Christian and listen to a band whose members are Christians and/or write Christianity-promoting lyrics. There is nothing wrong with that, and there is nothing wrong with choosing not te be Christian. I mean we'll try to convince you but it is your life. Some bands make good music, some don't. Some are Christians, others not. It doesn't matter all that much. For some people this music gives support, hope, strengthens faith, and for others this puts a little seed in their heart for them to make it grow to Christianity more.
The 'Children of Fire' album is really impressive and very cathartic (for me religion doesn't come into the equation just great music which drips real emotion).
Can go as far as saying they're the top dogs in metalcore today. A vast majority of bands, big or rising, in the genre are indeed Christian bands though.
CyanideN64 Yeah Parkway are still great thankfully, unlike 90% of every other hardcore band out there Austin Whitney Yeah I know it's painful, the only bands that you ever see these days are Sleeping With Sirens copy pastes that scream a line or two in their songs and call it metal core even though it's Pop Punk garbage Kurt Fridenberger Christian bands are the *only* ones I can find that don't have a bassist as a lead guitarist anymore, what happened to playing the LEAD with guitar, might as well call themselves lead rhythm guitar
Hopeless HD In an interview with Wayde Flowerday of MusicReview.co.za, Micah Kinard spoke about the Christianity of the band, saying that, "At the beginning of the band, we were definitely an outspoken Christian band; but as the years have gone by, we have gone through certain member changes. Not all of our members share the Christian view, they support us and our beliefs, but they don’t necessarily engage in that same belief. I myself am a Christian, and when I write passionately from my heart, that view will still come out, which the band supports. We would be lying if we said we can still operate under the Christian umbrella, and say everything we do is characterized by a Christian motivation." Yes, it does tell you about the band, thats why I linked it.
only problem is that it feels far too one dimensional. the lead is amazing, but the bassist is just another core kid and the drummer is so intensely underperforming I might even nickname him Lars.
Listen to their song a world with out a son the drummer is not underplaying. Matt Davis wrote his music to fit with the rest if the bands not to stick out
I agree completely. We can't force people to change their faith. We have to embrace them with open arms and show them the love of God. People would just put up their defenses against us if we try and force them, and then they'll never be willing to open up to the love of God.
Love Oh Sleeper listened to this song before every college game, and was my walk out song in MMA because of how it makes me feel and the message it brings with it!
You don't need to worry about the Truth dying. He is always. You don't need to worry about being deceived, if you are His; connected In-Love. We worship Him by sight and sound. He would not leave our eyes without Vision. He would not leave our ears without Song. We do not make it up as we go along. We are wise men; For we have seen and fallen In-Love.
i just listened to the whole album, amazingly i survived from all the chillness and greatness that i felt the whole album is great. from start to finish my skin had goosebumps AWESOME BAND,ALBUM,and FANS
Theres still hope man, anyway you look at it the fact that you still pray is proof that you haven't lost your faith in God completely. He hears every one of your prayers and know whats best for you. Even if it may not seem like he's answering your prayers, prayers dont always just happen at the snap of a finger. God's timing is perfect timing, and he will answer your prayer. You have a room reserved special for you in heaven, crafted by the king of kings.
