I've been with these guys since their first album and loved seeing their growth. They really are different from anything else I've encountered in metal.
Very original. I've only seen that comment posted on 9/10th of RU-vid songs. Sorry for being a dick about it but shit... It's like people dig their comments out of the recycle bin and post it everywhere. People have nothing original or good to say. They just regurgitate everything people are already saying. I hate it
haha, sorry to disappoint you shawn, I have never seen that comment and I was playing it loud enough for me and all my neighbors. I don't spend much time on youtube, that is why I haven't seen your comment until now.
I've always wanted to get a cheap bullhorn and a cheap mp3 player, wire the mp3 player directly to the bullhorn, and then drop that off behind a building in town blasting some metal music. Would be interesting to see how long it lasted.
Oh Sleeper is so underated. Micah writes some of the most profound lyrics I have ever read in music. The band can be heavy and in your face while at the same time they can be quite soft and melodic. And all the members of the band are genuine whether they are Christian or not. Not many bands can pull off what Oh Sleeper does:)
+Nicholas Fornshell dude if you like really well written lyrics you should check out Silent Planet and Hands Like Houses, they write some unbelievable stuff!
+Nicholas Fornshell If you're after some fucking amazing lyrics, check out *Heart To Heart*. They're a small punk-rock/hardcore band from CA in the US, they're seriously one of my favourites and they deserve to be so much bigger. You won't be disappointed!
I never knew why people always said "my life was changed by listening to this or that band" until I listened to Oh, Sleeper. The lyrics mixed with the intensity of their music makes me start thinking about how serious The Lord is. There isn't "time" like we think. We could freaking die today, in a week, or in twenty years. It's GOING to happen. Listening to Oh, Sleeper really puts things into perspective. God is loving, but he also has wrath. It's time to get real with ourselves and our faith.
This was my first experience with core or heavy metal of any kind, and since i first discovered these guys I've also started listening to For Today, Impending Doom, and In The Midst Of Lions.
I love that both my favorite bands oh sleeper and as i lay dying are Christian and back up what they say and proud of it. As the word says "those who shy away from me in front of others I will shy away from them in front of my father" always makes me think. God bless
I still listen to this album in 2020, because although the production may not match today's standards exactly, it still hits hard -- really hard. The lyrics are extremely well put together, vocals are intense, powerful, yet beautiful when they need to be. The riffs are PUNISHING, brutal, and seamless. If this is the only song you've listened to off of this album, you're doing yourself a disservice. Oh, Sleeper was way ahead of their time with this one.
I myself am an atheist. This band makes me really dig deep and think about everything more than any band I listen to. The intensity and passion in their music is incredible. No other band can pull emotion out of me like these guys can. Phenomenal band to say the very least.
@@BreakDown2197 well thats biblical. Additionally, if we expose ourselves with too much negativity, close doors, even wearing dark clothes. Thats somehow pulling us towards to the world of being blinded.
I got lucky enought to see them in my city Columbus, Mississippi. Thats was actually the first night i heard them live and they were crazy! Also Greeley Estates was there too.
I am an atheist and i came here for the music. Which also means their lyrics. They are so powerful and i respect their beliefs. OH and this band is sick and i cant get enough of them!
this band is amazing, God bless them and their message. For people who are saying that you wish they weren't christian, and that they would be cooler is really sad. God inspires their music and vocals, maybe you should look into it and see why they want to worship God with what was given to them. God created the lungs, the breathe we breathe and our talents. Amazes me how people also can judge "screamo" and say it's evil, God gave them that ability. Yes I agree sometimes it sounds scary to people who didn't grow up listening to hardcore. It's how you use the screaming in your music, can be used for your purpose or not. I've been headbanging ever since I was 11, love hardcore..very happy I found this band. Looking for christian hardcore bands, also fun to study how they use their voices, I'm a music major.
I'm not christian, but I really don't judge music based on religious beliefs. I'll like it if its good, that doesn't matter to me, also everyone has screamed right? It expresses a whole lot of emotions, so why not use it to get your message across in music.
The important question is 'where do people assume they're all Christian?' I certainly hope you don't presume that simply writing and signing about religious epithets and mentioning God somehow is representational of faith.
The fact of the matter is regardless if they are all Christian or not. The lead vocalist is and the bad supports him and encourages him. They don't point out that they are not all Christian. Dealers choice, God bless you all if you believe or not.
Richard Resendez You are why I'm never hostile when it comes to talking about religion. If believers, and non-believers could have some kind of sane mutuality and just respect other people's opinions like this, we'd have a lot less fighting going on in the world. If I want to pray to the ocean, and I think it's rational, just let me do it.
Empowering music is good for the solar plexus chakra, which actually facilitates the energy flow throughout all the other energy centers.. the"heart" of the energy system
It is imperative that they make a video for at least one of the following, "Hush Yael", "The Marriage of and Skin", or "The Family Ruin"!!!!!!!!!!!!! Preferable all! God Bless, from England! Love this band, and album!!!
this quality of music is rare in this day and age. everyone with a guitar thinks they can shred and everyone with a voice thinks they can scream and its starting to ruin the genre altogether. these guys and oceans ate alaska are giving me faith that things can change for the better
I love how the entire band is just casually banging their head, whilst shane blay is standing there like a total badass concentrating on the the most amazing pieces of guitar playing ever. Gotta love this band.
This is very true, I find myself always listening to it even though I'm not a Christian because it seems to be the only music with any real feeling to it.
Love Oh Sleeper and the message they represent. There is more than 1 way to worship God. They Love hardcore metal and worshiping God, why not put them together.
The thing is about scene kids, AILD, and this band is that scene kids (typical AILD fans and the band members themselves) are usually self-proclaimed atheists while this band is a Christian Metal band. Does that mean they're good or not well that depends on if you can look past subject matter and find this type of music audibly appealing. However in most cases even a logical comment won't stop an atheist from spewing about two paragraphs of blasphemy in hopes to enrage a then baited Christian cyber soldier as the battle of two densely narrow-minded morons attempt to outsmart each other while the rest of us laugh.
I just found out about this band considering Shane is the vocalist of Wovenwar. After listening to it and reading the lyrics, I like it. Even as an atheist I like the style of lyrical writing they have going on here (found out later that they're considered a Christian band). The music fits in well with the lyrics giving it that more grand experience. Sends shivers up my spine while hearing the guitar riffs :D I'll definitely keep on listening to these guys; great music overall. 9.5/10 /)^.^(\
I disagree. They sound like a generic band to me but I'll keep checking them out and see if I'll end up liking them. I heard of this band via an AILD announcement where it was stated that the current members of the band, besides Tim Lambesis, would be involved in a project with Oh Sleeper's vocalist. Imo, AILD is much stronger at drums, guitars, vocals, production and mixing, oh well everything. At the end of the day everyone's entitled to their opinion and there's really no point in saying one band is better than the other(excluding fiscal matters and maybe popularity), is there Also can't wait to see what kind of stuff they'll come up with this collab.
stephaniealexandra You look like you're about 18. So you were a kid when Shadows and Frail Words came out. No. They are not better than Oh, Sleeper. At all.
God Bless all the Lost ones and unharden their hearts and open their eyes before it to late In The Name of our preshiouse Lord and savior Jesus Christ Amen!
*insert unnecessarily violent comment towards, genre, band, etc. Make generalization of genre. Knock on musicianship compared to other similar bands, etc* did I leave anything out?
I suggest people who love listening to Oh Sleeper to understand they are a band who share view points in a dark way to simply say,"we understand your pain as God does, but understand your anger towards Him is foolish". Atheists, if you don't like the message, then don't even bother listening to them until you realize you do want to, same goes for all of you who cuss and think it fuels your anger towards God or it fuels your sense of Worldliness. I'm simply putting this comment to say that everyone needs to understand what music is for and what Oh Sleeper is doing.
Amazing how a video makes me like a song even more. Since seeing the video does anyone else always do the head shake at 0.41 when singing along either in the car (advise against it) or just walking/jogging with your ipod? God bless these guys and may more videos come!!!
Listen man, I was raised christian, went to a christian school for 9 years of my life. I went to church every sunday until 8th grade. I still live by a lot of the teachings. I'm a humble guy, and learned a lot from my teachers about good morals, but I lost faith and just don't believe in it anymore. Not insulting anyone, I just stated I won't be listening because I can't relate to it. Enjoy the music, i'm not stopping you, just don't harass me for not having your beliefs.
