Scott Dinges this song is about being left behind after the Rapture happened and the battle between God and the Devil. Try Means to Believe, THAT's the anthem for Jesus Christ making a gateway for those who try to redeem themselves aka the means to believe.
It's amazing how Oh Sleeper can weave an intricate and extremely meaningful storyline that can touch peoples lives in their songs. They manage to really make people think about the world and their God (if they believe in one). Yet at the very same time the music they produce is almost un-paralleled.
I absolutely love Oh, Sleeper! I listen to them when I worship sometimes and I just look up the lyrics and dig deeper into the meaning. Just such great passion behind them, leaves me in awe everytime! Thank you Oh, Sleeper keep doing what your doing! God bless!
Captain = the world. Before someone gets saved, and even after they are, they follow the world and what it says is good or profitable like it is their captain. For Christians, we have to stand and lift our voices through the discord and say "No more!" We can't let Satan and the world control our lives. God is our captain. Follow Him.
Chris Epperson I don't see how their music has any real connection to religion, or why anyone should care. It's music. I can respect other people's religions and perspectives though.
bless us against the accursed thing. i forsake all allure of disobedience. Bless Yehoshua HaMeshiach against these drothes and drothes and drothes of accursed disobediences. Bless humanity against the accursed way of death disobedience and eternal destruction.
saw these guys live for the first time with TDWP on Wednesday and WOW is all I have to say when they opened with this song I was out of this world pumped
Eh having an opinion on the internet is like pissing in the ocean. Chances are you won't change someones faith on a online video watching service finger painting feelings and opinions comment section.
I'm not particularly religious but I sure am glad I found bands like Oh, Sleeper, Underoath & Norma Jean. Passionate, kick ass & inspirational music, cheers.
i am a nugget!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@TheKingOfTheOzone94 The phrase is "Make my grave or animate my veins." which means (In my interpretation) "Give me a purpose in living, or there's no point in living at all." Oh, Sleeper is an AWESOME band, with deep profound lyrics, with these guys you always have to dig deeper! God Bless them! I hope they continue to spread the message of Christ in a hardcore way!
I agree that God doesn't want us to "just get along," He cannot tolerate sin. However, God does judge men, NOT because He is cruel, BUT because He is holy and just, and cannot tolerate our rebellion against him, for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. God is also a loving God. He has offered us His Son, who has died and risen again in our place. He offers this to all men for the sake of love, and He wants us to run to Him and accept that gift of grace. Is that not mercy?
I just decided to listen to this band for the first time even though i've heard of them more than 5 years ago ... Now i'm repeating to myself "Why didn't I find this earlier Why didn't i listen to them what am i thinking "
The fact that this album comes out on Rosh Hashanah and Elenin will be aligned with us on this date (Sep. 27th) proves Oh Sleeper is chosen by God to spread His holy message! I can't wait! (for BOTH events)
the old albums deserve more views, i honestly think that the first album "when i am god" is the best album they have, but they are still so AMAZINGLY good, just a notch over every band i know. its so TIGHT, so perfect ! so much emotion
Just got back from seeing Oh,Sleeper. omsdkedkfjbsdjjAMAZING! Still buzzing even though I went to the gym for 3 hours then was at the event from 7:30-12 jumping and headbanging. It's now 2 AM... Anyway, they're such awesome guys! :O. Supporting acts were awesome too. Unforgettable!
@MrJazzblue then he says "so long my children" Jesus said everything in quotes in the song lyrics, kinda also saying "I'll be home soon" in a way. "make my grave or animate my veins" i take this as kinda saying "Im dead to the world" and "bring me to life, bring me home" Hope this is helpful, its my interpretation of the song and it has a fairly strong Christian message in it. I love Oh, Sleeper
@Hilariocrocy Holy crap I know right? My face just about imploded. Like Micah has ALWAYS been the man with the lungs but ill be damned if that wasn't like the most brutal vocal delivery i've heard from anyone just about ever.
Went to look up an August Burns Red song, and this came up because of a typo... I have to say though..I'm VERY glad i made that typo. These guys are amazing and i would LOVE to see these guys live. Sounds like it would be completely insane. :)
yeah the verse is- 2 Chronicles: 13:12, in case you were wondering. "And, behold, God himself is with us for our captain..." so yeah. i would say inspiration comes from there.
wow oh sleeper's first album was epic, and i thought they set the bar there. but then the second album came out, and raised it so much higher. i thought how can they possibly top that? yet they prove me wrong again. i have nothing but respect for this band! they are true artists with their words and their music! epic simply stoked for this album! P.S check their song "hush yael" if you havent already
I went and saw Oh Sleeper at the Palladium along with Skip the Foreplay. They opened for Falling In Reverse. And it was one amazing freakin show. Like this if you went to the Palladium in Worcester to see Falling In Reverse on January 29th 2012
you know, some people say that metal bands tend to lose their edge.... i don't see this from Oh, sleeper... or any christian metal bands I listen to. I can't wait for this new album.
Im not religious at all and question all religions, but I appreciate you having a relationship, and not a religion, makes you seem more open minded and understanding, if you get what i mean
@xXdomobeastXx They are, this album is a continuation of their previous work that had songs about the final battle between God and Satan. At the end, God cuts off Satan's horns and once they hit the ground, both of them disappear. This song is the part where the horns touch the ground if I am not mistaken.
This is the Zealot, who sees the horns fall and rallies his comrades to the spot where he lay. But then the "Captain" bids farewell, and he is left bewildered. He finds his beliefs were not what he had thought. Feeling abandoned he likens Earth to hell (A place without his Captain). "Mark my grave, or animate my veins"....Take me with you, or replenish my life. (Now hollow from the apparent abandonment)
this album starts where son of the morning left off. the last song on that album, "the finisher" was about the battle between god and satan. this song picks up after god has defeated satan. god and satan disappear and this song (and the 1st half of this album) focus on the people trying to figure out what happened to their god. as the album progresses it tells the story (thru characters/scenarios) of ppl rediscovering god and ultimately ends with the destruction of the world (children of fire)
