Ladies, thank you for the wonderful interview and demo! Sophia, I knew you were my type of cook when (1) you chose to create a ranch dressing with all dry spices and (2) when you stated that you used white vinegar because it has a sharper edge, and is less sweet, than apple cider vinegar. I've made my personal version of ranch dressing several times using a combination of both fresh and dry herbs and spices. It's good. However, it had occurred to me that the Hidden Valley Buttermilk Ranch packets are made with dry spices so it should work with homemade to create an easier and faster version. You clearly thought the same and did a fabulous job of creating one. For the most part, I have a strong distaste for sweetness in food that is meant to be savory and thus appreciated your fine palate and ability to discern the level of sweetness between the two vinegars. I regularly use apple cider vinegar but am always a bit disappointed in the sweetness it brings to certain foods, but especially to salad dressing. I had never considered using plain white distilled vinegar instead so was excited to make your dressing. I had every single ingredient for your dressing, right down to the Frank's hot sauce, so just made it. Being discerning and frugal, I decided to proceed with caution and make only a half recipe. Obviously, I need not have worried. Your ranch dressing is absolutely delicious, probably the best recipe from another that I have tried. I use Malk almond milk for it's more neutral taste and that, combined with the cashews and vinegar, still added a subtle sweetness. I'm hoping that once the dressing properly chills and the flavors meld, that the sweetness will be less noticeable. I'm already considering an addition / substitution that might tweak the recipe enough to circumvent that sweetness so that it is more to my personal taste. All in all, your recipe is one if the finest I have tried! Thank you! FYI ladies, the manufacturer of Culina yogurt has just ceased using the coveted glass jars and instead, have switched to plastic 😫 At least that is the case at the Whole Foods here in Katy, TX. I went so far as to have the manager check with the floor person who stocks yogurts, etc, and that was what I was told.
