I've had this problem for a while with my bike, stator cover leaking, just replaced the stator and got a fresh gasket on there, I almost went to reach for the atv gasket silicone, but instead will thoroughly clean surfaces, great video and very informative! Thank you for sharing your wisdom and knowledge

You are a saint for answering all of these questions in the comments! I have one of my own... I'm replacing my crankcase cover and found that the CKP sensor grommet uses a different type of sealant than the one that's supposed to be applied to the mating surface. My question is... how should I apply the sealant to this grommet? Just on the mating surface, or around it, or where it seats in the crankcase cover?

Excellent video which gave me the confidence to investigate my Triumph Daytona600 oil leak. I believe oil is seeping past the grommet, my left foot gets sprayed with oil on every ride. Can I apply RTV Red (what I have in stock) around the grommet where it sits in the cover? I have a new gasket on order as the old one is rusty, but it didn't leak, only from the top, when I pressed the grommet oil would squeeze out. Thx

I changed my oil today. While the bike (2007 Triumph T100 Bonneville) was drained, I replaced the stator cover gasket. It took longer because I had trouble getting the gasket to stick. I’ll let you know if the replacement was successful after my next ride.

Appreciate this video so much you have no idea my bike has the same issue. I looked at it today when I got to work and it was oil everywhere that’s what I knew. I looked at the bottom of the Stater cover and that’s what I knew I had to get the gasket replaced, so I just ordered it. This video was very helpful.

I can't get over how frickin' slick that was puttin' on that silicon,{in the 1st spot) I'm no rookie, but frrom the 5:43 mark to, to about 8 seconds after looked like magic. But I snapped back. The 6:45 mark seemed more like the 'What'cha actually get' scenario. LOL. I doubt anyone else thinks that was the best part...ahaha 👍

Great video actually might need to do this soon. Had to get some replacement parts and while the parts guy was looking at my bike he noticed some possibly leaking. My question is what gasket material is best suited for the stator gasket and oil pan gasket if someone decides to make their own using gasket material.

Really good video thanks! I’m about to fit my first gasket on my quad, I’ve cleaned both surfaces and removed all old gasket. There are a few rough bits on the mating surfaces, scratched metal, shall I add a bit of silicone/ gasket maker on those bits before fitting the gasket? If so should I wait 24hrs for it to cure before adding engine oil? I’m female and learning by you tube how to fix my quad, this is the last bit to do then it should be good to go! I’ve replaced my stator on my Gsxr 600 L0,but I’ve started to get a leak from the rubber gromit that runs the wire through the cover.

6:30sec around that wire area my gsxr750 leaks in the spot! Your tutorial may works to my gsxr750 2006

Hey nice video mate really appreciate the guidance, i used loctite gasket sealant but couldn’t find the mate edges but as my bike was the exact same year as yours i popped it in the same places. Iv left it overnight woth no leaks but it only leaked when hot anyway so ill fire it up tonight and see what happens. Thanks again 👌👌

That’s exactly how much silicone you should use with gasket. Even thinner. And blue is not the best. RTV Black is for oil. Blue is for water and antifreeze. But I’ve always put a thin hair thin smear on engine case and on stator cover then allow to set. Once set after 30 min then install. I’ve never had a case or clutch cover leak in 20 years. But the trick is with bare hand light smear. And your good.

Great video, looks like an easy task that can be done in one's own garage! Would you recommend someone changing it themselves or should I take it to the dealership instead? It has a small pinhole on the face of the cover that slowly leaks so I'm too scared to ride it a few miles to the dealer. After 8 months of riding, I finally dropped my baby (2017 Ninja 650) the other morning on a stupid mistake. It had just stopped raining an hour or 2 before and I wanted to ride my bike to work. The roads were still slightly wet and as I was slowing down for a sharp 90 degree corner I ended up tapping my rear brake a bit to hard and the rear tire came out from under me because of the slick road. I was only doing about 15mph or so when it happened but it still landed on the left side and did a 180 slide in the road. Main Fairing is all scratched up, shift lever bent at a weird angle (rod still good and shifts fine, just the foot lever bent), clutch lever bent and end snapped off, and my main problem is that the stator cover took a hit. It got scratched up and now has a small, slow leak out the side where it's been dented. I ordered a new cover and gasket and shift lever, hoping I can just replace myself because I know how expensive dealership service departments are. It really sucks too because recently my ABS started to come on after a minute of riding and I was hoping to have them look at it and try for a warranty repair on the sensor, but now that I dropped it, its going to be a hard case to sell to them since they lose money on warranty work and look for every way not to do it.

Totally new to riding and not very mechanical, but I had to repair a small crack in my left crankcase cover and came across your great video. Do I need to use the blue silicone when installing new gasket? Bike is CRF250x.

I have a small cc bike, I took the cover and replaced the gasket, but I didn't know u have to add some glue and so it's still leaking oil, I hope that that's indeed the problem.

Hey my 2001 zx6r just flooded the crankcase with gas, ive solved my carb problem so it wont keep dumping fuel to flood anymore but the engine oil is just pouring out of the left side cover, from behind the magnito and starter flywheel. I flushed the bad oil, an tried to refill it an its just hits the floor. What would cause a leak at what im guessing is the crankshaft? Any word back is appreciated

Any idea why my starter wont spin after I installed a new cover? With the bolts all tighten downs the starter wont spin, if I loosens the bolts and loosen the cover a little bit, the starter will spin just fine. Also if I remove the cover entirely the starter spins just fine as well.

Not a motorcycle but I have a can am ds 650, I had to change the gasket on the stator cover. The guy I got it from did the same thing you said your buddy did. He also said you have to add oil inside there as well. I'm not sure if that's true, and my valve cover gasket blew open on the top end idk why. I had to fix that to, I just need a little information on what I'm supposed to do.

If I put too much oil in would it just start pouring out the bottom bolt. I put two extra quarts in, and all of the extra oil I put in leaked right out.

I have a small leak around my alternator on my 1985 Nighthawk 650. Because my bike is an old bike it would cost a bunch to have it done. I don't work on stuff much on my own. Is a small leak something to be concerned about? I guess I could try this repair myself if I had to. You do give real good instructions.

Hi. Do you have to drain out the motor oil first before taken the stator cover out? If you don't need to do that, do you have to add some oil in after replacing the gasket?

Hey boss I just acquired an 04 gsxr 600 for $100. it had been stored outdoors for a couple of years and owner just didn't want to deal with the hassle of trying to sell it, plus he said it wouldn't shift out of 1st gear and trying to sell a bike someone cant actually test ride is a hassle in itself. Removing the cover where the clutch cable comes in I found a broken return spring the cam actuator connects to and ordered a new spring. I really cant go wrong with this investment as worst case scenario the motor and trans are junk and can always part it out, but my question is more recommendations on should I just go ahead and replace the clutch plates while I have it torn down or just replace the spring and see what it does?

The bolts holding down the cover are very cheap and are prone to snapping. I would suggest replacing them. A quick trip to home depot can save you a potential headache.

Hey Boss, How did you know where to put that Silicone? You said the "metal mating surface", is that not the whole edge? I have a 650r Kawai, I swapped out my Gasket this weekend, but it still leaks, I am hoping its because i missed a tourque setting on the bolts, but I think it might also be from the Stator Cable, as i never added Silicone to that rubber seal either. Would I be ok to take it off, add the silicone and then reuse the now crushed Gasket, or should i start a fresh? What silicone do i need? Thanks :-)

I over torqued my bolts and it cracked and broke off. Like a triangle around the bolt hole. Do you think I could fix it? Or am I better off buying a new one. I tried sanding and jb weld but it just peeled off

maybe am going to be the one with the dumb question but I need to know, am new bikes so I taught that there shouldn't be any oil in that place of the bike, I even thought that you were about to change a seal or another gasket but that did not happen. do all bikes need or have oil in that part of the engine??

Opened it up and the stator seems to be set right back, so nothing like all the other stators I have seen.

Might sound like a stupid question. I think this is were mine's leaking seems to be above the oil glass. From the seals. Do I need to train the oil 1st? When I did the oil housing on my car I didn't but it did need a coolant top up x

Great video man! Question, should I stop riding my bike if it has too much oil? Saw some drips coming from same spot. Noticed when shes perfectly straight the oil levels are above the max line. First service is coming up in 300 miles. I almost feel like just doing first oil change myself. Registered her to Yamalube Advantage like you said. Im not tripping too much. After changing a bad stator I now have a slow oil leak coming from one of the screw holes ( bottom right if I could point it out on my 02 gsxr) different bike I know but any advice?

I just did my m109r and it is still leaking with the new gasket. It is leaking around one bolt at the bottom of the stator cover.

This is best stator lesk repair video on all over the internet. I have question about the RTV gasket maker you used. Is it ok to use that rtv gasket maker or should i use silicone adhesive sealent instead. Both are available by permatex at walmart.
