I still can't get over how nice the motorcycle community is! I have a Z650 but I suspect this is the problem. I need to just get in there and fit it.

Thanks for the front sprocket cover removal section. The cover on my 2007 Ninja 250 was difficult to remove and left me wondering for a bit if I had missed a bolt. I didn't miss any bolts . It was just the tight alignment pins that were tight. Your video definitely helped.

Super helpful - thanks Tom! Did you put the grease on the outside of the seal - on the surface that mates with the case?? Or should I use yamabond or something gluey like that? Also, what about freezing the seal? I’ve recently done that for a moped build. Thanks for any thoughts!
@TomsTinkeringandAdventures
@TomsTinkeringandAdventures 3 года назад
Freezing the seal is a good idea and something that I probably should have mentioned. I don’t usually put sealant on the outside diameter unless the manual recommended it, a bit of oil or grease is fine for lubricating it to help install. Thanks for watching!
@sveensvensvn
@sveensvensvn 3 года назад
Cool, thanks for such a speedy reply! I think I’ll freeze it but do minimal grease - that seems strange to me, like it might push back out, no? One more question - is does the case have a collar on the back side that the seal will fit flush into, so you know when to stop (gently) hammering?

You know a lot about these bikes. I have a 2006 ex250 ninja with a seized engine. I sprayed PB blaster in spark plug holes, put it in gear and rocking is not freeing it up. I need to put a socket directly on the crank. There is a slotted cover in line where the shaft is located on these bikes. Instead of removing the shift linkage, water pump and lower end cover, can't i just remove this slotted disk and directly access the crank? There is nothing in my shop repair manual or on You Tube about this, but it seems Kawasaki put this feature on the motor for a reason. I am thinking easy crank access? Any thoughts on this would be very helpful!
@TomsTinkeringandAdventures
@TomsTinkeringandAdventures 3 года назад
Yes, that cover is so access the flywheel bolt to turn over the engine. If it’s locked up though, you’re going to have to disassemble the engine and rebuild it.
@freemarketjoe9869
@freemarketjoe9869 3 года назад
@@TomsTinkeringandAdventures There are several video's of guys gently working this crank bolt back and fourth on bikes that have been sitting for years after they dump pb blaster, brake fluid and such in spark plug holes to penetrate the stuck pistons. If there was no engine damage and the pistons are frozen from just sitting, theoretically it might work. I think i will try it. My thinking is clockwise with gentle pressure, no leverage beyond just choking up on the ratchet. Counter clockwise would start unscrewing the nut, i think. The guys who do these video's say they have great success doing it. Your decision to fix the leak was very nice for the new owner. I think i would prefer to have bought a used bike from you over buying one at auction like i did. Thank you for responding and giving me your thoughts and insight!
@TomsTinkeringandAdventures
@TomsTinkeringandAdventures 3 года назад
@@freemarketjoe9869 yes, I have seen people get engines unstuck. They might start and run, but they are rarely long for this world! 😀 It’s worth a shot though, best of luck and please let me know how it goes. Take your time, you may be one of the lucky ones.

@garyrenwick2706 3 года назад
when was the last time that thing seen new chain and sprockets?
@TomsTinkeringandAdventures
@TomsTinkeringandAdventures 3 года назад
No idea, it was a non running super cheap bike that I bought, got running and fixed the major issues (like this leak) and then sold for a very meager profit. If I had installed new chain and sprockets, that would have added to the sale price so I let the next owner install whatever kind of consumables they would like.

@TomsTinkeringandAdventures
@TomsTinkeringandAdventures 3 года назад
@@garyrenwick2706 I have seen the exact same thing. When I sell a bike that needs consumables (tires, chain/sprockets, etc) I always let people know. I could buy the super cheap set on Amazon and install them, but perhaps they want the top of line stuff and it would be a waste of my time and money. Good eye!

@TomsTinkeringandAdventures
@TomsTinkeringandAdventures 3 года назад
Alex Crichton I have seen them for $500-$3000 depending on age and condition. A good one for $1300 is a decent deal. It really depends on your area, bike sales are very location dependent.
