Cleaned and hard turned this old 4 jaw chuck and jaws on my Okuma LS.
Even when its a independed chuck, it's still important to have the faces of the jaws parallel with the chuck / spindle.
I will grind the inside clamping part of the jaws in the future.

Nice, but how did you clean up the back where it mates with the lathe?

Thanks. Most of the mounting is done on the taper. The back face was not too bad. I took of a few little high points with a flatstone.

sandvick is a very bad quality recycled insert dont use it.. for cast iron-steel you will need an insert without burr relief

At least it will be very easy to swap chucks. Just two tiny shims, and you can crank it right off with the cross slide!

Yes it is. Fun fact is that his chuck is a lot lighter than the Forkhardt but almost 100mm bigger. Just a very simple cast iron design.
