You get more manual action in this video, showing that average mix of bins, boxes and bundles that were put out by ratepayers. Just imagine going through streets where it's the veg zone and seeing this outside every house - hands-on work that was very labour intensive during the warm seasons. On the contrary, when you had rainy weather or winter months there'd be a massive decline in presentation rates.
Even though I never worked for Veolia officially, I'm glad I was able to experience this job with these iconic trucks. I had some great fun during my teens and I'm glad I soaked up every moment I was able to do this stuff. I can also imagine myself laying in bed at home those odd mornings I wasn't out there, listening to the truck idling for periods and then suddenly start revving when the packer cycled, plus hearing that full throttle pass by coming back up the street.
I hope you viewers enjoy and appreciate all the footage in these two uploads for what it is. I wish I could have this entertainment up in sharper picture quality, but this is all I've got nowadays!

Love these throwback videos. Crazy people would just use cardboard boxes in those days. Theres something special about this kind of take-all service with that keeps disappearing everywhere. Guy on the back is a real pro too

Love this!! Always loved how they chucked all the cardboard in as well, great system if people took the tape off the boxes. No need to return the container back to the nature strip. Would be a pain if it rained the night before though… Cardboard boxes and paper bags full of shit are the biggest enemy if it rains the night before clean up. Did bundles at Inner West and we threw all the plastic bags with veg in too 😆 even those big bulka bags. Had a few with cardboard boxes and it reminded me of watching these Warringah videos as a kid 😁 Grateful to of done manual veg in North Syd, a pretty unique system nowadays, I’m just spewing I never got to do it on a truck like this, would be hectic! Revving like that in the early hours, oh the noise complaints you’d get 😂 Bet you woulda thoroughly enjoyed that in your early years as a garbo. Great video as always mate 🤙🏼

I never even thought about the tape on the boxes back then haha It was definitely a different era of waste collection in Warringah during these days, how things have changed! Yes indeed handling the boxes during or after wet weather required a different level of handling, needed to support underneath so the bottom didn't drop out, plus sometimes try and hold the sides together =P The lightly loaded ones were ok from memory, but those filled with heavier material like grass or mixed soil and weeds would fall to pieces in your hands (as you'll know from clean-up). Definitely an achievement you got to do this in NthSyd... many won't ever experience manual greens and a lot nowadays wouldn't even know the service existed out there as much as it did! These sure were great trucks to use, such a shame they're no more. Loved riding on the back step too and hearing the engine gunning it =D Ohhh who knows why the start time was pushed to 7am in the 2009 contract?! lol

Haha I love how the small size old Aussie rubbish pails look like the size of what a typical US house would use just to collect trash in the kitchen. (Standard kitchen cans sold here since the 1990s are around 10-13 gallon/40-50 liter volume) Do stores in Australia still sell those small size 'outdoor' rubbish pails at all or just larger ones now? Props to the driver and loader on this one, the skill of the driver backing the truck up a bit while the loader is working through a pile is next level. Those loaded cardboard boxes are a beast! Thanks for posting :)

Wow, the bin for my kitchen isn't anywhere near that big, must be definitely less than half the size, although I do have a separate bin next to it for mixed recycling haha These pails definitely are still sold at shops over here, I guess they're just not as popular a sale as they once were back in the manual era. I haven't paid attention to actual sizes available, but from what I've seen, a pretty similar volume is on offer like that used for past garbage services - I'll have to have a closer look next time I spot one on a shelf. The driver sure did his best to make it easier for his offsider, I also thought his gradual reversing to reduce footwork was a nice gesture, not something I've seen done much either!
