The Slaughterspine was the very last machine I ever scanned right before I got into the boat to cross the ocean for the first time. I was too scared to fight it, and when I got to the end of Gemini, I suddenly knew EXACTLY what was going to come up through that opening in the floor. And sure enough, there he was in all his devastating glory: The Slaughterspine. Terrifying and brilliant. One of the scariest fights I ever had because I had NO CLUE what I was doing, and I found myself wishing I'd fought the one on the beach for practice!
Apparently am I the only one who’s first encounter was in Gemini? Cause that experience was terrifying. How it ascends. And not knowing shit of its capabilities. And knowing I don’t have the right element crucial to take it down. And figuring I have to take it down with what I have. All these kicked in in a closed space.
@@cobra8888 I think I would have wet myself if I hadn't at least seen a Slaughterspine first before encountering the one in Gemini. That must have been terrifying!
The first time I fought a Slaughterspine it was surrounded by some Leaplashers so I decided to try to take them out with stealth first before taking it on. I had taken down three of them and was sneaking up on the fourth when I thought “Um, why did the music just change?” Only to turn around and find the Slaughterspine looking down on me with red eyes gleaming and charging up it’s plasma generators. It was like something out of a movie.
I've seen multiple "game reviewers" say that HFW has forgettable Music and nothing captivated them. How the fuck can you listen to this and not be like: Holy fuck that's intense and amazing at the same time... Seriously this game has some of my favourite Sound Tracks ever in a video game and I don't think they are forgettable at all!
I completely agree that this game has the best OST i have ever heard & what i like best about it is the amount of different variations you can hear for each track.
Not trying to be rude but there is a difference between "reviewers" and R Tards. Like dude, Horizon is one of the FEW games with a story as deadly as it and a 3 game series AND a Netflix Series possibly happening for Zero Dawn, let alone Forbidden West if Zero Dawn kicks off successfully. Horizon is one of the SINGLE-HANDEDLY BEST Open World RPGs I have ever personally played and just for reference I have played almost 90% of Playstation Games available.
I got pretty good at fighting those things because I ran into them SO MANY TIMES just to hear that amazing battle theme xD it's just way more fun with a theme that good They're also my favorite HFW machine
OHHHHHH ok ok. So basically, this is just the theme of "Built to Kill" as always, but this part 0:54 is meant to play when the Slaughterspine charges up it's plasma, yeah those purple shiny things that has at both sides, wich it's pretty fitting tbh and i love it
I remember the first time I got to a fight against one of these awesome dudes and when it started to charge its beam and the music changed to the crescendo, I just stood up there, kind of afraid because I tried to hit the gear and nothing happened so I was like "hmmm, I don't know what to do now, I guess I'll just die then" it was a very magical moment, I loved it, nothing's going to top that moment in a very good time
Now this is a theme worthy of a true predator. A true Apex Being capable of fulfilling HEPHAESTUS’s design better than any other. Killing this thing isn’t a job, or a challenge, it’s a role reversal. Once it knows you’re there, you stop being the Hunter and, instead, become the Hunted. You aren’t a threat to this thing; _you’re prey_
Killing the Apex Slaughterspine takes forever even with acid weapons and traps. And then one on one is freaking terrifying. One hit of its plasma breath and you’re dead. But it’s such an exhilarating fight, especially with that epic theme music intensifying when it’s charging it’s cannons. Holy crap.
I remember the first time I saw one of these, on my way to the Isle Of Spires. The icon popped up on my map, it said "Slaughterspine Site" and I thought to myself "What the actual fuck is this and who named it?", so I carefully approached, saw this massive thing wandering around on the beach and fucked right off xD I love taking on the big ones for a challenge, but that thing was terrifying. Fought my first one later, on the Isle Of Spires, while circling around a building to have it shield me from the plasma attacks and it was hell of a lot of fun. Didn't hear much of the music because I was so busy planning and aiming and just fighting for my dear life, but it certainly added to the atmosphere. Hands down my favorite machine, sorry Thunderjaw, you got replaced xD I play on Ultra Hard now. I CANNOT wait to fight this one again.
oh my god that melody that builds around 1:26 dude.. makes the whole battle so much more intense and powerful feeling. what an awesome machine. thank u so much for uploading these tracks man
I made the mistake of overriding a storm bird prior to initiating the fight with the slaughterspine on the beach hoping it would assist me. Yet it barely made a dent then the timer ran out on the override and now I had two huge machines to battle. Good thing there was a lot of medical berries next to the San Francisco bridge
Bro this song is soo hype man im soo glad you included the Gemini cut where hephaestus is deploying it for the first time. No other version of this soundtrack on yt has that part. The only things holding this song from being prefect is the transition between the first part and where the true battle theme starts, and also when the battle theme loops past that. Just outta curiosity is it possible to clean up the transitions at all by chance your playlist so far has been the best ive heard here and your version is the only that includes that first part. Otherwise thanks so much for posting all this it has increased my live for this franchise evermore now that i can listen to the beautiful tracks while im away from my ps4 doing other things
I'll try & get a cleaner transition for you on my next playthrough but it might be quite hard as the theme always changes when the machine is charging up.
@@HorizonThemes i appreciate it so much. This games audio is just so good and thanks to your work ive been able to enjoy it. I also made sure to sub so i wont miss any of your future posts thanks for bringing this games awesome soundtrack to us fans.
My first impression was before the quen boats and fighting this thing figured it can't be that bad. Me : let's do this! Slaughterspine : Charges up. Me : oh I am not ready for mecha godzilla!? Proceds to get one tapped by its breath attack.
Absolutely shit myself when this thing comes out and the theme started playing and was an absolute nightmare fighting on the hardest difficulty, glad they added something stronger than a thunder jaw to spice it up a bit.
I probably just spoiled myself, but is that... did Hephaestus just build a Spinosaurus? Because that thing looks very like one from this angle. And it's name would suggest as much. I love this game. I f*cking love this game.
It's definitely based on that for sure & its attacks are pretty much the same as Shin Gojira. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-iUaoMe7QPVg.html
I just beat horizon forbidden West, and the slaughterapine was one of my favorite creatures to fight! The first time i fought one, I'm thinking can't be no harder than a thunderjaw.... Oh boy was i wrong lmao. I love everything about it! The way you have to go into the battle to this amazing theme. I love fighting the slaughterapine. Also, the first time i fought an apex... Jesus Murphy lol. I love this game so damn much lol! Thank you for uploading the theme. That charging note they add always gives me goosebumps lol.
Idc what anyone says I loved Jurassic Park III It introduced the Spinosaurus Rex and Steven Spielberg is no stranger to making this horrific And forbidden west is now on the badass list
Alright so here’s a funny story, as a dinosaur nerd I’ve always loved the designs of some of these machines, as well as the ones not based on em. And it was obvious from the start that this menacing as hell machine, the Slaughterspine, was not just based off a spinosaurus, but was by far one of the most intimidating machines I’ve had the displeasure of battling. When I had to fight the one within Gemini, I had died to it a total of 4 times!! And everytime I battled it I had a terribly small amount of materials and would run out of arrows everytime it would be put down around mid health. It was starting to feel bleak abt me winning it. UNTIL I WENT ON DISCORD AND TALKED TO MY FRIENDS ABOUT IT. When I told them, one of my friends said that since spino’s were the killers of my most favorite dinosaur, carcharodontosaurus, that I had to win to avenge my favorite dinosaurrrr. AND LIKE A F***ING MADLAD I GOT HYPED UP AND BATTLED THIS SUN OF A BICH A FINAL TIME FOR THAT NIGHT AND I ACTUALLY KILLED IT WITH A SLITHER OF HEALTH LEFT!! To this day, that fight will remain at a special place in both my heart and mind when I think of this game. Great job guerilla!! U made a machine I love and hate 😂
I remember paying no attention to were I was then I heard this playing even started tapping my foot to the beat till I turn around and saw this thing charging up within that instant I found my favorite machine.
El primero que me encontré fue en una playa en la noche... quede fascinado por su ost. Pero es terrorífico, por lo resistente que es. Aunque aprendí que lo mejor es congelarlo y luego darle con todo.
When I did my playthrough of this game, I never encountered it up until Gemini. Needless to say, that fight stuck with me for a number of reasons, all great. The buildup before the final area, Hephaestus getting pissed, and then revealing this monstrosity paired with the epic music during the fight. 10/10 and felt more epic than the final Deathbringer in Zero Dawn.
I remember finding out about this machine for the first time. From what I’m aware of, the Slaughterspine was never shown in any promotional material, and its track was used in the fight against the Tremortusk in a gameplay trailer. Hearing this track, and seeing this machine for the first time caught me so off guard and it really added to the “boss fight.”
Spinosaurus is one of my favorite Jurassic dinosaurs of all time, ever since I saw Slaughterspine, he became my number one favorite mechanical monster in HFW, Thunderjaw is my number one favorite long ago but that title goes to Slaughterspine!!!!
@Adan B. The tremortusk and the slaugtherspine theme is a little bit the same and maybe guerrila don't wanted to put another song like this one (it's only what i think. Nothing comproved)
I may be late but i LOVE that they finally gave a spot in the DLC where you can let a Thunderjaw fight a Slaughterspine. Unless they are both Apex which i got too many times and had to run (it is way too op to fight both honestly). But to my surprise the Thunderjaw wins every time even with it's clumsier movement - because of the cannons on it's back it can just bombard it to death. But it was SO SATISFYING seeing both of them go at it.
If you press the home button on your controller for the PS5, you can loop the build-up. It's fascinating that not many people know about it, this theme is quite quick too, even with the weapon wheel slowdown at the slowest.
If the Mechanicus had this fucking thing wrecking the galaxy for them, they’d have overthrown the Emperor and turned the galaxy into a big clockwork hellhole by now
@@Dragondude1 Actualy, few hours after posting the comment I desided to upgrade some of my weapons before dlc and get used to the game after a long break. I had The Ancestor's Return - legendary shredder gauntlet upgraded three times and for the fourth upgrade I needed Slaughterspine's Circulators. I used that same shredder gauntlet and shock shredders to beat it. Then I destroyed Apex Slaughterspine with level 4 shredder gauntlet to get the heart for next upgrade. This weapon is OP. I also wear Carja Stalker Elite level 5 with +14% and +15% Plasma defence weaves (84 total) to not get killed with those beams if I fail to dodge. Now the biggest problem for me is Fireclaw becouse if I need to get sac webbing I can't use shredders, battle takes to long and if I die during that long battle I get frustrated.
man i never felt so excited in a boss fight like i felt in this one, first slaughterspine fight was ABSOLUTLY the best bossfight i've seen in a very long time. most of bosses in games are just crazy enemies that u just want to defeat like any other.. but this one felt different, like a truly respectable oponent for aloy, and even a stronger one, when you fight this thing it feels like you are just a tiny ant fighting against a beast 10 times bigger than you, most satisfying fight i've seen so far, great job to guerrilla by creating something like this.
@@Kurauzzo Im playing normal, as my usual, but got a clip when i destroyed an thunderjaw with 2 shots using that thing (Burning shores is required to unlock it) to be specific, you have to use that railgun shot and aim specifically for the batteries, that will overcharge the thunderjaw and will do colossal damage I know slaughterspines and thunderjaws have different parts but i presume you can also take down an slaughterspine with 2 shots in the right spot
Kinda weird they held off the stormbird before you could mess with these for some reason? Maybe they really wanted you to be able to experience the choking feeling of fighting these with low grade weapons
(0:00) hiding in a red bush (0:54) they found you, and is charging the plasma atacks (1:13) you're dead now! (1:26) your heart is poundng meniwile the slaugtherspine is roaring (1:41) a few hits he is mad and want to destroy you (1:52) he have low health and you too . . . Whos will win? A human or a big machine? (2:18) aloy wins!
I have a love/hate relationship with the Slaughterspine. I do love fighting it. But OHMYFUCKINGGOD, THIS THING IS SO HARD TO BRING DOWN!!!! There is no way to destroy it's plasma generators. Only thing you can do is keep it drenched in Purgewater. I do like the plasma element. It reminds me of the Pokémon move Bide, but having it used AGAINST you? IT FUCKING SUCKS!!! ESPECIALLY AT HIGHER DIFFICULTIES!!!! Get caught in a full-power Plasma explosion, and even at full health, with a full health potion, AND your Overshield Valor Surge on Ultra-Hard, and you're a dead woman.
