One of the most crystal clear and nonpolitical interviews I’ve come across. I absolutely love this interview and I love Sharron Davies. She uses her verbal skills to articulate something so fundamental without bashing anyone. We still wish to understand Lia Thomas and her identity does matter. What we’re missing is making this entire topic of discussion fair and come to a fair outcome without people bashing each other in the dialogue. And there is no intention to ban anyone as Sharon pointed out. Thank you and bravo!
The problem is it is not just sports. Women have fought hard for our rights. We are losing our women only spaces and if we speak out we are the ones in the wrong.
@@raintalon6138 I have all my life had friends who are Lesbians I don't care about anyones sexualities. But I and I am sure lesbians like women only spaces and to know they are in sport with other women
Sharron is a legend, a true athlete, she is more than qualified to speak on this subject. Thomas will not apply for an open category, he knows he will possibly not even make the cut and he wants the easy win by going up against women, because he was useless against other men. Women should not have to suffer this way, not after years of women before them having to fight for decades for their rights.
@@curiouslyme524 Calling it an "open" category means that biological (regular) men would just dominate. It needs to be defined. Happy enough for a "trans/intersex" category.
Please bring Sharron to the US. Every governing body in sport should be forced to hear her view. Best line ever- I don't understand why we are, where we are. Me too.
Great interview. Didn’t realise that this had occurred. Sharron did a terrific job of explaining why it is so important to be fair in sport and to make categories clear. Thank you.
@@raintalon6138Or maybe she has just taken very good care of herself? Why do you automatically jump to a higher testosterone count? There are plenty of gorgeous women her age on this planet that don't have higher t counts.... Give this woman her due- They already took her medal from her, at least let her have this.
@@missychan63 she didn't have any metal taken from her. She just lost to a doper. Which is ironic as she says hormone replacement has an only negligible affect.
Sharron is not speaking out "against Transgender Athletes", as she has explained repeatedly, including in this interview. She has no problem with male athletes, no matter how they identify, competing against other males, and similarly with female athletes (provided they are not on testosterone). So why have you misrepresented her views in the title of your video? It's irresponsible given the context of threats, intimidation and even physical assault that Riley Gaines and others advocating for fairness for women are subject to, and hardly helpful to people who identify as the other sex to keep fuelling the idea that everyone is against them.
Never trying to fuel any hate. I believe Sharron is speaking up and sharing her opinion on the topic - like she has the right to. She’s repeatedly said she’s against biological Men competing against women, something we discuss in our conversation. No misrepresentation was meant at all, hope you can see that in the video.
@@KyleMillisAppreciate there's no intention to fuel anything (and thanks for giving a platform for these views to be explained), but being against biological men competing against women is not being "against trans athletes"
@@KyleMillisnot trying to fuel hate, but that RU-vid short you have is littered with so much hate, that's the only thing commented. Even this comment section is filled with disrespect. You cannot say you don't want to fuel hate but do absolutely nothing when it presents itself
Thank you for your support. I participate in two combat sports, and trans women are allowed to compete against females in the women's category. The HEMA championship, Combat Con held in LasVegas in July, changed the only women's category available, which is in the long sword, to the underrepresented genders category. Now, any man needs only claim to be non-binary and compete. There are no restrictions on testosterone. There is no longer a female category. Might as well compete against the men in the open category. There are no differences. If a transwoman has been through male puberty, having zero testosterone will not level the playing field. Males only lose about 12% of their strength.
I agree with everything that she said except the Open Category. With all the hormones and other drugs that the transgender person may have taken, how can they filter out performance enhancing drugs to maintain fairness in that category? Probably can't. The solution is simple. Keep it male and female based on genetic testing (XY and XX) and keep out performance enhancing drugs.
We don't actually have fair access because 99.9999% of us don't take part, nor would stand a chance in competition - you call out drug taking in main stream support, this is drug taking to support their dysphoria and I support the right to this and the help they need, but that does not mean that there is an automatic right to compete.
@@KyleMillisWhere is my category? This "open" category will be filled with only biological males. Better to have trans men and another trans women. I don't think anybody has the right to compete and i don't think there is any reasonable way around this but a hard stance of understanding with protection for the intent of the rules when these sports were written. When women was mentioned eyons ago, it was biological female, we all know this was the intent of the category. Stop pretending it wasn't. We can debate what should be done now but the college sports governing bodies failed to interpret this and it saddens me for the extra hard work this females put in the pool only to be displaced by a person who cheated by having testosterone during "training".
@KyleMillis everybody already has fair access. An XY chromosome person can compete in male events and XX chromosome person competes in female events. The human race has two types (XY and XX). That's 100% access, right there.
@@KyleMillisThe concept of "fairness in their own terms" is what caused his mess. The basketball rim is 10 feet high. It cannot be accommodated to a shorter person, because it's unfair that they're short.
This makes me mad. This not Lia Thomas' fault. This was poorly managed by UPenn, the Ivy League, NCAA and USA swimming. It is obvious that, despite some physical changes during her transition, she had the advantage of maturing into a male body and competing as such. Since then, more rules have been put in place to remedy this problem. But it should not have come as a surprise or handled in this way. I have no problem with a Woman's swimmer transitioning from a male body _if_ she started her transition before puberty with blockers and other measures. And unfortunately for all, this episode has put being transgendered in sports in a bad light, and fodder for right-wing extremists. It also makes it difficult for people to criticize the situation without being called a bigot.
I do think some part of it is lia’s fault. She knows that she could take advantage of her situation and went along with it. If only she shared the medal together with the other girl (i forgot her name) for the documentation i think she wouldve gotten more sympathy. Also she was a male competition swimmer before transtition so naturally the motive of why she transition becomes a hot topic bc not long after she did, she competes in female category.
Sharron Davies is 5' 11" and built like a tank. She obviously had higher testosterone through her puberty. It's also worth noting, androgen receptors are more sensitive to T in AFAB people. TW have proformance levels comparable to CW of the same size. Your concern is only valid it you think women like Sharron Davies should also be banned.
@@raintalon6138 So now all the natural advantages between people must be normalized? This is how the debate shifts to how to hinder those with natural abilities that show up the perversity of the anti-women position.
@@mikesmovingimages interesting. If it's a CW it's a "natural advantage". If it's a TW it's an "unfair advantage". That's a special pleading fallacy to the core.
Well TW are also men. It will be just another men’s category. I’m not sure where the females that identify as men are supposed to go. Currently they go in the women’s category and don’t take T while in training/competing.
@@victorybeginsinthegarden they should call it the ‘fairness free’ category and let them take whatever drugs, do body modifications, cheat - I’d watch that! 😂
The Philippines track & field athlete, Mona Sulaiman was disqualified to run in Asian Games in the 80's just for doubts that she is a man due to her physical masculinity... A woman by birth, the committee wants her to be physically examined & undergo series of labtest which she refused.... Hey Kyle, I'm a student entrepreneur at Cal with a recently funded 3D social media startup. Your content skills caught my eye-interested in discussing a core social media role on our team?
Transgender people do exist, and even dogs know when someone is transgender. Dogs may sometimes be sexist, but never transphobic. I have multiple trans friends who have told stories that like before they transitioned, a dog didn't like men, but really like them, and then they came out as a trans woman. Also, my trans male friend came over and my dog lost her mind because she always barks at men. He was pre op and pre T. And also, my dog never barked at my trans female friends (some of them were also pre op and pre hrt). So yes, dogs know just based on vibes. When your transgender, you are born with the genitalia of the one gender yes, but mentally, you release the hormones and act like the opposite gender as that is what your brain identifies yourself as. Hormone imbalances during gestation can cause a brain to develop in a female way despite the body being male and vice versa. Sex = Genitalia and/or Chromosomes Gender = Mind You're confusing gender and sex.
Yes, but in sports sex matters, not gender. IMO it's fine for trans people to live their lives as their preferred gender - again, unless it's about sports and the scholarships that come with it! - in any other aspect of human life. The only issues left to solve are things like prisons, where women who are housed with transwomen are at a clear physical disadvantage again and are often a$$@ulted.
@@smokexsmoke99 maybe some people can behave as an alternative sex, but their body hasn't changed. Also even if someone is given opposite sex hormones, it doesn't change their DNA.
@@07Flash11MRC Lia Thomas is extremely cherry picked for the sake of conservative rhetoric, she's ranked 46th, which is pretty close (numerically) to when she competed on the men's category, she isn't the top 3 female athlete, and even CIS woman can't compete due to high testosterone, also, how is it the case for literally every single trans woman? estrogen literally changes how your body structure works.
But they are not female. The lowered testosterone levels allowed for trans identifying males seeking to compete in women’s swimming are much higher than the testosterone levels allowed for the female competitors. If you want to make a cogent argument, read her book first and get your facts straight.
How are they different biologically if you are born a male even after all the drugs if you are dug up a thousand years from now your DNA will say you are male.
They’re even more biologically different from the females they want to compete against. Trans women are males and if they want to compete in sports that have separate categories for men and women, they need to be in the male category. Simple as that.
