*Nolan pouring his heart out about he’s been an absolute monster up to this point and slaughtered hundreds of thousands and how he misses his connection with his family for the terrible deeds he’s done* Allen: oh my god get a load of this guy
Actually, it was the "I deserve death" statement Allen was reacting to. Basically Allen sees Nolan has become a better person, and could really help, but instead, he just has resigned himself to die, which annoys Allen.
Season 2 was "don't hit people when they're down, hit them when they're starting to stand up so they fall down harder." - Debbie was ready to move from Nolan, reminded by the husband of someone Nolan killed that she will never be accepted. - Mark was finally healing from Nolan, comes again with a new alien brother. - Mark finally got a grip on his relationship with Amber, Anissa broke it for good. - Debbie finally started believing she can have a normal life, Levy drops by to say hi. - Mark started to build his own identity, accidentally kills Levi making him think he'll become like Nolan. And now, Nolan teases he's going to meet Debbie yet again, when likely she moved on. Oh, and these are just the main family interaction, I can also include the others like Eve
Pay attention to how Nolan gives his last line: he's not talking aloud because Allen needs to hear him say it, he's talking because he needs to hear himself admit it.
What a raw scene! JK Simmons was already selling his casting from the pilot, and I had no idea how far he could take his portrayal of Nolan. His tone is an excellent mix of shame and dread when describing his newfound empathy. Plus, I adore the confusion of, "I think I miss my wife."
Like, normally I find him a bit insufferable, but in this show he puts out the most perfect "Blase-But-Down-To-Earth Dudebro" for Allen and it fits so well
Nolan's such a wife guy and I love it. This man spent over 1000 year concerning worlds and spreading pain but after 20 short years with Debby and he'd do anything for her. He'd move all the moons and all the stars if she but asked.
@@Nobleman23 This Nolan / JJ Jameson joke is even funnier now that Spider-Man has actually been referenced in the show. Imagine if Omniman met the “Spider-Man” in this show and Spider-Man in his dimension, I imagine he’d to himself, “Wait a minute… I never knew my boss had powers! Damn, I’m screwed.”
What so good about "I think I miss my wife" is that unlike a lot of show dont tell exposition in more modern TV shows, that tell the audience how a character feels, this one feels earned. Throughout Season 1 you really do get the vibe that Nolan cares more for Debbie than he lets on, like flying away after their argument instead of killing her or their lunch scene. Nolan is such a cool character, his conflict and reformation arc in the comics and now show are so good.
I felt it when he said “I think I miss my wife” just shows that his heart has changed for his family. Plus gave me flashbacks to the scene in the comics 😢
but it also shows rightfully now new this feeling is for him. "i think." he isn't sure because he has never grappled with feelings like this in his life, so they are foreign to him on some leve.
Such a simple line, but I love the delivery. You can just hear the surprise (and maybe even a bit of fear) in it. Something along the lines of "What's happening to me? Since when does a Viltrumite 'miss' anybody?"
They have Saiyan pride and just stand there taking attacks never attempting to dodge, but have Kryptonian base scale power. With Advanced tech and knowledge , they're pretty OP and being chill would be the norm if that's the case @@Maxrepfitgm
A tiny detail I like is that at the start Nolan's voice is rough towards Allen but once he mentions Mark, his voice notably softens and sounds more worried.
@@SilverByakuya From what i remember, something happened and battle beast ended up floating in space, he doesnt know how to move in space so the viltrumites just catched him and took him prisoner
He’s never really allowed himself to consciously acknowledge his feelings before. His ideology and emotions have been at odds for years but he’s finally starting to aline them.
@miguelalejandro4357 nothing wrong with that, but for a race that stays young for millennium they should at least be allowed to keep the hair on their heads
The reaction on Nolan’s face when he heard Allen has seen mark which confirmed he is safe and back on earth for him. Is subtle but huge. Just a great show
I love the Tone of Nolan’s Voice that Simmons Nails and why this scene works and just from hearing it you feel the Humiliation, the Tragedy, the Regret, the Pain, the Suffering, and Weight of his Concequeces.
Im assuming it's intentional, but I like how Nolan isn't in as good shape as the other viltumites since he hasn't been keeping up with presumed training like the average viltumite soldier would, plus on earth and Thraxan there weren't many ways he could realistically strain his body enough to get in better shape
J K Simmons is killing it you can hear the pain and sadness all the regret from a man who betrayed not only his kind but also his new home his family and friends he had so much and now he has nothing he feels that the only thing left he can do is to die but that last line when you see the sadness in his eyes and he says "i think i miss my wife" that really hit me
I love this moment where in Season 1, it's not just Invincible Vs Omniman, but Nolan Vs. Omniman. He's struggling to fulfill his true goal when he's attached to Debbie, Mark, and Cecil. They made him feel not weak, but feel more human.. To his viltrumite self, it sees Nolan as a weak soldier and tries to push himself back into the game - But after the season 1 finale, and seeing what happened here - Nolan won. He won against his own monster and realized how important his family is to him.
Im glad to see omni Man expressing how much he regretted everything, but i know it still going to take some getting used to him trying to redeem himself because he left too many mental scars on earth
I really like this scene. I feel like redeeming Omni-Man must be a difficult tour considering all he has done. But that last line is quite powerful. Up to this point, Nolan feels completly lost, he is a monster to humans and a traitor to Viltrumites. For him, there's no turning back and he feels like he will make everyone a favour by just dying. But what compells him to move forward isn't some need to save the world or something like that. Let's be honest, most people don't have that ultimate sense of doing the greater good. So what truthly compells Nolan is something as simple as seeing his wife again. Something so personal like wanting to be at the place you feel safe. And saying that means that his true place is amogst humans.
He misses Mark but it's different and not just cause it's been longer since he'd seen his wife. Debbie is the woman who taught him what it meant to be human, to have empathy & actually enjoy life in the present.
Me and my dad watched this and we found it hilarious that every Grayson has the same black eye lol! Also found it pretty funny when Omni Man said "I miss my wife" like which one!
Its worth noting that Nolans last line is said out loud. He's mulled it over and talking it out with Alan made him accept he really does care about Debbie.
More accurately, Viltrum dragged them into this bullshit. Nolan was a changed man but he knew Viltrum would've responded to the lack of Earth being conquered. If he did, it was because he didn't know Mark would try to resist the Viltrum Empire.
She won't. Unlike humanity who's never known him closely even with his fake back story, she can't discard Nolan out of her life. Not after everything they've been through.
When I heard that I couldn't help but remember the line from the Snapcube Sonic Adventure 2 fandub where Eggman says, "I miss my wife, Tails. I miss her a lot. I'll be back."
