2:35 What you could do
Today, we’re going to talk about statins and statin side effects. Statins work by blocking a certain enzyme that blocks your production of cholesterol. Your liver cells make a good amount of cholesterol in your body. The cholesterol in your body is not just coming from the diet. It’s also coming from your own cells.
Cholesterol is a precursor for making bile salts. Bile salts are involved in digesting fats and absorbing fat-soluble vitamins and omega-3 fatty acids. If you don’t have enough bile salts, your risk for gallstones goes up as well as the risk of pancreatitis.
A big side effect of statins is myopathy. This is a general term for muscle disease. Another side effect is high levels of creatine kinase, which can indicate muscle wasting. Statins can also deplete CoQ10, which is an enzyme involved in giving your muscles energy.
If you’re deficient in CoQ10, you could experience:
• Muscle wasting
• Muscle weakness
• Lower back pain
• Heart failure
• And more…
Taking CoQ10 while taking statins could help diminish the symptoms of myopathy.

I had a mild stroke. The doctor put me on statins and blood thinners. It about finished me off. I called the doctors office and told them of my side effects of which included severe dizziness and falling frequently. They messaged me back and told me to quit the medicines and cancelled my next appointments! I am 70 years old and a retired RN. I have never had an appointment canceled or known any doctor I worked for cancel an appointment of a patient. But I should have sent him a thank you card🥳. It’s been almost a year and I’m taking the CoQ10 and doing the healthy route. I have not fallen any in months. I am walking well and feeling is back almost prestroke level. I feel pretty good. Love you Dr. Berg. You are a real doctor who understands the functions of the body. 💕

My late 70s mum went to the doctors to be told "at your age you should be on statins". She was a keen gardener and pretty fit. Within a few weeks she could barely walk and certainly not kneel to do gardening. I did an internet search to find a lot of people with similar problems. Next time she went to the doctors she put the statins back on his desk and said "you can have these back, I'd rather die than be crippled". It took a while but she's back to her self again now.

Statins are aggressively introduced by most doctors including mine. I was forced to take it because he said my cholesterol is high. After a few months I was in pain & had to ask him what was wrong as I was pain free before I started statin. He never mention COQ10. I had to find out myself by watching some videos on RU-vid including this one. I stopped statin without permission from my dr to save myself from pain.

I was obese and was put on blood pressure meds and statins. The statins caused bad pain in my hips, making it very uncomfortable to lie down in bed. The BP meds (and probably the statins too) contributed to me suffering acute necrotising pancreatitis, which nearly killed me and left me with T2D. After that I refused further statins and other meds and went on to the keto diet. I lost more that 90lbs. My blood pressure is normal. I’m no longer obese. I’m fitter than I have ever been. These treatments are based on bad science and a misunderstanding of the medical processes at work. They treat the symptoms, not the base problem, which in my case was obesity, insulin resistance and, mostly, a bad diet ( even though I ate what dieticians recommended!)

The muscle pain from statins can be extreme. It crippled my mother so badly I had to cook and clean for her. Many people on statins don't tell the doctor about it, they don't know, thinking the aches are a normal part of aging. The doc put her off the statins for a week, the pain immediately went away and she's running around like she's 20 years younger.

I was on statins for many years, then I was diagnosed as a T2 diabetic and began the recommended regimen with meds with only moderate success. As I began to educate myself about T2 and researched the meds I was taking I discovered the statin was contributing to my increased blood glucose. Fast forward I began a keto regimen and after a few months decided to wean off the statin at least temporarily to see how much the statin affected my BG numbers. After seeing my numbers decrease by 15-20 points on average. I also noticed my general feeling of body aches and malaise went away, along with the migraine headaches I had suffered from for years, and as I thought back I never had a migraine until I started on statins. So I am no longer using the poison they are pushing, yes my total cholesterol is higher than the Dr. wants but my triglycerides are low, and HDL is higher than it has ever been. I have politely told my Dr. we can discuss so long as the conversation does not include statins. I am also free from meds for T2.

In addition to depleting your body of CoQ10, statins lower your levels of vitamin K2 and HMG Co-enzyme A Reductase, the latter of which is an enzyme your liver uses to make ketones. So, if you're on a statin drug, you have dramatically impaired ketone production, even if you’re fasting!! Also, statins lower dolichol, which plays an important role in mitochondrial function. It is responsible for the process of putting sugar chains on top of glycosylated proteins. They help maintain the barrier function in the cell and regulate the uptake of nutrients.

I would be in a meeting at work and could not recall anyone's name. People I had worked with for 11 years. I couldn't memorize anything. Not a good thing for an engineer. My IQ had to have dropped 20% or better. It was horrible. Worse than that, my blood cholesterol hadn't changed by one point! I told my doctor about these effects and she laughed at me and recommended seeing a psychologist! I’m 64 and fit for my age. A couple of years ago, because my BP had gone to 145:90+, and my cholesterol was over 200, I saw a cardiologist. I felt ok, the stress test was good as was other tests. He put me on a calcium blocker and aspirin. I resisted his advice to go on a statin. Recently though my BP is now normal my cholesterol was still high plus I had a CT scan which gave a very high calcium score of 1000. The cardiologist insisted I go on a statin so I did. No side effects but I really don’t like taking all these drugs when I feel healthy. I follow a low carb diet and only eat one meal per day.

I stopped taking Atorvastatin three months ago. My doctor increased my dose to 80mg, I was on 40mg for years and I didn't see and reduction of cholesterol. What I did see is my A1C raised to 6.5, glucose increased to 134 and triglycerides increased to 189; it was turning me into a type 2 diabetic. I had really bad back pains in bed at night and when I asked my doctor about it he said to take a pain pill. My pharmacist told me to take Coq10 and it really helped. I’m now on the keto diet and things have greatly improved.

We are all responsible for our own selves including health and fitness. I had a decent diet (mostly healthy) and was in good physical condition going to the gym at least four times a week, a mix of cardio and resistance training. I felt damn good overall! After a health check about 7 years ago I was informed that I had both high blood pressure and cholesterol. On my Dr advise I agreed to use statins for treatment, lowest doses for both. A few years later I had the kidney stone, going to the bathroom was virtually like water almost every time, and a few years later I started having very painful leg cramps. Four months ago I stopped taking statins completely. Results…no more stones (I hope) no diarrhea and no cramps. I’m also sleeping better, more sound but the same amount of time, about 6 hours, and I feel GREAT! Side note…no wife either, that might help!

I was on a high dose of Atorvastatin for years. During that time I had emergency gallbladder surgery at 3AM due to a stone stuck in the common bile duct. My gallbladder was about to burst. I ended up with an 8" abdominal incision because my gallbladder was too large to remove via laparoscopic surgery. My cholesterol dropped to 19...yes, 19 which is dangerously low. I was so tired and weak. My legs felt like lead weights. My wife and I are retired nurses, so I was trying to be a compliant patient. Dr Berg, my husband has been taking statins for many years as well as Co Q10. He is very sensitive to the side effects of the statins and has often suffered from muscle pain, but his latest brand and dosage has been the best so far in that regard. Hoewever his symptoms flared up again recently and lasted until our GP advised him against taking lemon juice which I expressed every morning in my husband's water bottle. Apparantly grapefruit juice plays a big role in this regard but also other citrus fruit as it keeps the meds in the bloodstream for longer (in layman's terms). The muscle pain ceased as soon as he stopped taking the lemon juice. We have been following your IF and healthy Keto plan for a month now - feeling great and losing weight 😊 ! Thank you so much!

What a brilliant idea. I have been worrying about the exact same issue. We see the encroachment of medical tyranny already, with the refusal to investigate or treat usual health problems. With the impending threat of social scoring, it is becoming very clear how medical fascism will be used against the disobedient. I do hope Dr Berg is able to put his mind to this problem. It could potentially save untold numbers of people. Re. the lady refused treatment for non-compliance. My LDL cholesterol has been low, but so is my HDL too low and triglycerides too high. I've been following healthy keto and intermittent fasting for 3 months now for a recent T2d diagnosis and my LDL cholesterol has gone up!. The cardiologist won't let me reduce the statin because apparently research has shown that statins long term can erase the narrowing of my artery without putting a stent. For many years my creatnine kinese has been very high causing muscle aches and weakness, but my recent blood test showed a significant drop of CK which the doc has put down to my change of diet. I still have muscle aches though 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️. I'm scared to come off the statins because my LDL has gone up, also I have the narrowed artery, but I am trying to slowly get off my meds in general. Dr. Eric Berg, there are studies that report statins rob the brain of the good fats needed for strong good mental health, leading to alzeihmers. This problem is much bigger than we are being told. With statins been targeted on 50+ generation. A work force that are no longer able to provide for themselves. That will be dependant on the government system and medical industry and ultimately a waste of life for those that are entering their senior years. This will create unnecessary illness and death. These symptoms will not be admitted to by the medical industry. Thus not claiming responsibility for long term damages. With no compensation for the victims.

Ubiquinol is the ONLY form of CoQ10 that older people should take, as it is the same form that occurs naturally in the body. As we age, we are not able to convert the oxidized form (ubiquinone) as efficiently as when we are young. Personally, I don't think anyone should bother with the oxidized form. Ubiquinol is more expensive, but it's worth the cost to get the far superior absorption. Be sure to look for the "Kaneka" trademark on the ingredients label. Pravastatin Right hand hurt so bad I couldn’t cut my Canadian Bacon. Can’t get to sleep. Was ordering some equipment, was asked an unrelated question and forgot I was ordering equipment. While briefing my boss at our weekly meeting I couldn’t remember some key details that I brief every week. I was mostly able to cover by using synonyms but couldn’t remember why there were 103 on station and not 104. There were 104 because I returned one to the manufacturer to fix defects. Got to the point I couldn’t write a complete sentence during meetings because my thumb hurt so bad I couldn’t hold my pen. Avastatin - took 1 week. couldn’t sleep, general aches and pains, forgot names of a niece and nephew during nightly prayers. Stopped immediately. Took a month to get my memory back.

I have been in intermitten fasting, at least it's been 4 month, i was 75kg (iam an indonesian) and now im 67kg and had 292 cholesterol and have to take atorvastatin calcium. I hate that drug, so i watched many of dr berg vids talking about cholesterol (he helps me with OMAD and intermitten fasting). I decided to take statin 3x a week simply because 2 days is my limit, if i go 3 days without statin then my body feels like something heavy being put on my left side, from head to toe, it hurts alot. Still i want to be free from statin, so i give up carbs and sugar ( my chol is around 150 now) Also i bought vit d3/vit k together with vit c. I plan to eliminate statin slowly, but im scared to mix vit d/vit k with statin. Are these to heavy for my kidneys and liver? Is there any specific time to take statin with these vitamins?

@roughroadrunner88 3 года назад
@@warnatunggal433 hi. I'm not a doctor but can give my opinion. Congrats on your weight loss, yes intermittent fasting and specially omad can do wonders. I don't recommend stopping cold turkey on the statin meds. I suggest you find a doctor in your place similar to Dr. Berg that can help slowly take you off of your meds. I take multi vitamins but not all the time coz if im not mistaken anything of too much is bad for the kidneys/Liver. I guess medications are far worse if taken for a long time. Maybe you can take vitamins if your not taking the meds? Then have some day/week off on the vitamins. Depends on what works for your body. Hope this helps. Again pls consult a doctor to be sure and also a nutritionist to get the best information.

After studying heart disease and the medication that doctors prescribe for patients who need to take it I have decided that a dietary change to a fish diet with avocado salads and fresh fruits and veggies is best for me with Coq10 and B12 folic acid and oil of oregano and mulleins. No smoking no alcohol drinking and arm chair exercise. Statins are not for me!

My doctor put me on the lowest dose statin and my cholesterol (good and bad) improved greatly. Even though I'm officially obese my blood pressure has almost always been perfect. I stopped taking the statin after watching a couple dozen of Dr Berg's videos. I think I notice minor improvements in joints, but I'm curious what my cholesterol levels will be next time I get my blood tested. P.S. I'm type II diabetes and I stopped my metformin - that was a great feeling! Now I just take one low dose diabetes Rx and a baby aspirin. Been taking the CoQ10 for a coupla months noticeable difference with my heart. You really are responsible for your own health. Doctors can point the way, but the journey is yours to walk.

Statins almost paralyzed me. I took myself off them and everything eventually went back to normal. I had heart problems, felt like I was going to pass out at random times and never felt normal for even 1 hour. Videos including ones by Dr. Berg made me realize how dangerous the statin was and I'm so glad I stopped taking it. I wonder how bad it could have gotten if i didn't find out the dangers of statins...they're garbage!!! Keto also helped me tremendously. I lost 40 lbs and my A1C sugars are down to pre diabetes numbers in just 6 months. My sugars now stabalized at 4-5.5 every day and i never crash. P.s. I'm haven't taken any diabetic meds since 3 months after diagnosis.

From my years in the hospital, what I gathered is, more women than men end up having the myopathy symptoms. My grandma was one of them, she was put on a statin in her early 70s....she had permanent debilitating muscle cramps in her legs for YEARS. Even after stopping the drug pretty quickly. It still caused chronic dysfunction in her muscles. She also believes it caused her to have type 2 diabetes. Terrible drug.

My recent lab work result was 211 total cholesterol, 118 LDL, 79 HDL, Triglycerides 53. So both total cholesterol and LDL were in the red zone. But the more important HDL to total cholesterol ratio and the triglyceride to HDL ratio were very good. I was shocked that my MD did not recommend statin. I think the news is finally sinking in with the medical profession.
@tonylovesotis7662
@tonylovesotis7662 3 года назад
Your lipid profile is very good. LDL and total cholesterol are largely irrelevant when your TGL/HDL ratio is 1:1 or lower. Yours is well below this ratio, indicating optimal metabolic health and low oxidized LDL. You are not a statin candidate. Congratulations and wishing you ongoing good health.

Well Statins are on my allergy list. I started them in October 2018, had a major surgery a week later, and the trauma from it, ( we perceived ) caused what was perceived as a gout flare. I had nearer constant gout flares until July 2019, and when my uric acid levels dropped below 5.0, my doctor said, the only other thing that might be causing this could be the statin. I dropped the statin, and three days later I was fine and hadn't had trouble since. There were less than 10 days in between the aforementioned dates that I was able to walk under my own power. It was painfully insane. My uric acid level is barely 4.0 these days.

@@SusieAspen I know it was a week after starting statins for me. I had also had a rotator cuff surgery when just after starting the statins. So I could not have any steroids for the symptoms of the gout. With my history of gout they overlooked statins and I suffered terribly for 10 months straight.

a year ago, I had a heart attack, and my total chol was 466. I had been doing keto about 8 months at that time. I have the familial hypercholesterolemia ( and hereditary hemochromatosis ) and was told genetically I was missing the enzyme that wound bind chol to protein and allow it to be excreted. During the cardiac angiogram my vessels were WIDE OPEN, no blockages. They did find a birth defect; an anomalous right cardiac artery that had to be bypassed. The defect is being pinched between the pulmonary arteries and still there, they didn't chop it out, just rerouted the plumbing. Now i am so scared to do keto! Every time i do, my cholesterol jumps sky high. Im thinking, in my specific case, keto may not be safe.
