good talk, but mistitled.. It is about unethical marketing, not lonliness.

I liked this talk, but started thinking - ooh, bit of a clickbait title there... but then I realised that was the point - the title is actually very apt and clever - marketing to the people interested in the idea in the title - but then the talk actually teaches you something about being drawn in by marketing, getting your insecurities played on.

Yeh its clearly gone over people's heads that the title is itself an example of what she's talking about.

there's not much of a connection between the title and the presentation. indoctrinating people that buying all sorts of products will make them less lonely upon purchase is one thing but loneliness as a modern epidemic is a much broader subject, not really adressed here.

No, Ray, she's just a stuck up dunce who thinks that men should adore her so she can reject them because she already has a man who'll succumb to her BS and pay off all her credit card charges!

Badly titled talk - came here to here about how to not end up lonely, but instead got 2/3 through and finally realised it was about marketing. zzzzzzzzz

The thing is, this isn't a tactic that is gender specific. There are women who do the same thing, except that those women tend to seek economic gain rather than sex. The people who engage in these tactics are really rather sad.

The thing is, the best bet is to not watch the adverts, and assume anything someone is trying to sell you is being lied about.

OK seriously someone has to say that I am well aware that people act tough on the internet so I am going to say exactly what I would have said if she was in front of me and not exaggerate. First of all, you seem to not understand basic psychology - obviously people are going to create schemes in order to manipulate each other, it is human nature and it takes just minimum history learning to figure that out, however... we as humans want to deny it and thus you want to believe that "it shouldn't happen". Secondly, about pickup artists - you are a woman, they are guys, it has always been(although it changes) the way that it is where guys chase women, and as beautifully mentioned in "Lie to me" episode I've seen ("You like Diana for her beauty, she likes you for your money. how is her beauty different from your money?") which means that basically every human relationship(and I know no one wants to admit it, even though we all know it's true) is interest-based. Overall, the misleading title and the anger felt from the presentor are a huge turn-off and unfortunately give bad reputation to the amazing project that Ted is trying to create, RU-vid viewers have the luxury of opting out of the video at any moment, but I am terribly sorry for the people who had to sit through that talk and suffer this women's negative energy. @TEDx Talks

No, the man you speak of with such ire has not ruined that experience for YOU, he has ruined actual compliments given by any admiring man to a woman. Still, what you, the speaker, don't realize, nearly every single time a man compliments a woman he's attracted to, he has the tiny glimmer of hope that it might go somewhere. So these """pickup artists""" are actually only fanning the flames of men who already have that desire at varying levels. Further, what most of the pickup artist teachers teach....is to simply have the courage to actually SAY SOMETHING to women. So don't let the compliment be ruined too much, Miss. The guy at least felt compelled enough to say something to you.

It's easy for women to not be alone because they're attractive. I have a hard time getting a girlfriend. Men are 10X more likely to be alone

Ade V well if a woman looks attractive she's going to get a hundred times more attention than an unattractive woman. It's easy for you to kill your loneliness than a man

I don't have to I don't have to... ㅋuck I have to rant: "The title is misleading because it isn't about loneliness!" "What on Earth is she on about and how has this got anything to do with the subject?" "By far the worst ted talk I have listened to. The title is completely misleading." "Good talk but bad title !!" SHE (with the assistance of TED) PLAYED YOU, EXACTLY LIKE SHE TALKS ABOUT ALL THESE COMPANIES DOING IT. She sold her product (talk) praying on an insecurity (loneliness) without actually solving your problem or helping you feel more secure, at all. Really not a hard message to understand if you pay 20% attention to her talk.

By far the worst ted talk I have listened to. The title is completely misleading. The subject matter she starts with and continues to refer to makes her sound like she is alienating half the audience and should have been removed from her presentation. The actual topic she is delivering could have easily been presented without having to resort to such things. Even her tone, pitch and the way she animates herself around the topic is lacking of desire to maintain attention, especially towards the the main of the talk, which is kind of unfortunate.
