Thank you so much. I live in Callawassie Golf Community with a great tennis community. I'm sort of a 3.5 who cant get to 4.0 due to weak backhand. I just loved this video and have jotted down steps, have the dots on my right hand, and am going out to the ball machine and cant wait to practice. The Pro here always reminds me to swing and finish high. Now I now the three steps to get there and the great finish steps. Rock on. In Tennis!! Thanks alot. I just pinned 2Minute Tennis. Can't wait to watch forehand, and serve tips.
Let me make a statement. I have not ever seen a better explained video on this subject as of yet. How can you share such a vital information free of cost. Hats off to you.
Finally I found the holy grail of my old-style backhand. I am no Thiem nor Wawrinka. Modern beginners almost never think of using the knee bend. Some coaches tell their chest open up and face the net at finish, rotating torso even dragging the left foot to the side. It is so easy for beginners to get wrong ideas by watching the pros superficially.
I've watched a lot of tennis instructional videos and I think you're the first one who emphasized on having the elbows out!!! It seems to make sense! Thank you for that!
I agree. One of the best backhand instructional video. Thank you!! Your neighbours must have fun conversations about you, “Dang , I was going to cut the grass but he’s out there again doing an instructional video!”
Your videos are incredible! You really help break down complicated concepts into simple steps that’ve transformed my game. Thanks and keep them coming!
The best thing I can say about Ryan and his strategies is that they are for everyone! I have found a lot of tennis coaches that are a bit let's say "arrogant", and just expect that the explanation they give you should make sense, and if it doesn't your "obviously not good enough", however Ryan answers any of your questions, and no question is every too stupid. He also loves the sport so much so that he wants everyone to go out and enjoy playing, despite what level you are at. And he is genuinely excited to hear about your progress. He is more innovative and motivated than many other coaches therefore that's why he gets so much positive feedback. And it is well deserved!
Awesome instruction Ryan! I'm excited to put this into practice. I've also made a note to watch this video on a regular basis to absorb every last golden nugget.
Thanks Ryan. What a comprehensive 21-min session how to execute a one handed back hand. Let me tell you one thing I have never seen a tennis coach as passionate as you are. You are a legend Ryan!
That tip about keeping that arm extended was an absolute game changer. I broke down all the tips and focused on one single tip per trip to courts. Fabulous advice!
This is a fantastic and brilliant way of driving home all the points ! 👍 Thank you for this, I can hardly wait to practice it on my own! Hats off to you Ryan🎩
Thanks Ryan really engage with the concept of understanding each checkpoint and getting it right to help the next. In the past having seen other videos I think I have tried to focus on checkpoint 5 as the fix to my backhand but neglected a couple of key things to get right on the previous checkpoints. I have so much more confidence in the consistency of my backhand and it is now a real weapon
Brilliant video as usual Ryan. You've got the best tennis instruction on RU-vid. I love the way you break the various strokes down. Please move to Ireland!!
I have been practicing my one-hand backhand against a wall for the past 8 years. This demonstration is perfect and probably the only video you need for improvement. It took me 8 years on my own, trial and error to have a fantastic one hand backhand and I happen to perform all of the checkpoints described.
For some reason I do well on the well but when it comes to real action, I can hardly deliver! It’s like something about perspective changes the dynamics totally but I guess the mere presence of a net and an opponent on the other side, can throw off the nerves. The wall just doesn’t translate as expected at lest in my experience
Best Ever!!! Single one handed backhand lesson. Good detail, great checkpoints, and he reviews several times while going thru progressions and how and why they link up. Outstanding. . AAAAA++++
Thank you coach! I am an amateur and I only had the backhand slice. Your instructions with checkpoints has enabled me to try and develop a good backhand. I am making progress and thank you so much coach 🙏🏽
Thanks so much for these immensely valuable tips! I’ve thoroughly enjoyed each of your videos! The checkpoints were like the aha moment! Light bulb went off
Very very good, Ryan. I was sceptical at first but every second of your 20 minutes gives valuable info. Totally agree with Cam Lendrim below: it is the best exposition of s/h b/h I have seen.
Best single backhand lesson ever!! Provides detailed instruction , checkpoints . reasons for why each position is crucial for the next. Reviews several times for you to remind you of progressions during the presentation. Simply outstanding instructor. Wish he lived near me.
Unbeliveble!!! What a one hand backhand class!!!! I`d say `` awesome, terrific`` . I`m gonna ``spread`` your video to my friends down here in Brazil. Thanks so much, coach Ryan. Great hug!!!
for recreational players like the most of us, these checkpoints are so helpful. At game speed, most of us revert to our old usual habits and this helps reinforce that a change is needed. Appreciate a ton!
Wow Art. Thank you. I’m so happy you like the videos. I’ll continue to make them. Ans if you have. Video topic you’d like covered just let me know. Thanks so much!!!
This video is unbelievably instructive 😊 one biggest issue I've seen at the rec level for the 1HBH along with the "strings to the sky", and a mistake I used to always make, is trying to flex the wrist out too soon upon making contact with the ball, to resemble the Dimi/Wawa finish. The contact and finish have such a fast transition, that they almost look like one motion, so players get caught between the motions and don't finish the follow-through properly, which can cause injury. By watching analyses of Stan's BH instead of just trying to copy via tv, it actually helped remedy that by paying more attention to my loading and dropping stages prior to contact. Breaking down the basic motion of each stroke allows for a more natural replica, and this video captures it. The finish you demonstrate reminds me of the one I was originally taught from a former player, Bill Behrens, for a short while some years ago. Also Ljubicic-esque.
Really Ryan has great patience conscience to make people understand one of the difficult skills in tennis I.e one hand backhand really thank you Ryan your explanation printed in our mind computer ❤
