How lovely! And easy. I’m sure you get tired of making videos but right now this is my only way to get my quilting vibes. My mama has dementia and I can’t leave her to sew. But I can enjoy watching you sew. Thank you for sharing and making me laugh. ❤
Tammy, your situation is tough, I'm sorry. If I'm filling a need for you I'll continue serving up videos. God bless you for taking care of your mama. I hope Michelle will be as kind to me when it's my turn, TFW!!!😃😍🐥
Maybe you could find some kind of hand quilting you could do while being with your mom. I know its hard my mom had alzheimer and now my husband is starting with it. He lost his wallet and he falls a lot. He buys so much stuff and wasteful. He is not bad yet, but I can't control what he does. He wanted to shave his head bald hair was thin and he bought 4 or more of those head shavers and threw how many away. Then he paid $105 for one and now decided to let his hair grow back. I worked in a nursing home and one lady just walked all day. Her daughter came everyday to help feed her.
Oh I love this layer cake line of fabric! So bright and cheerful! Such a great beginner "go to" pattern Di! Thank you for the tape tip on the mat...I too think YOU are brilliant ya know.....❤
I hear quilters gasping across the internet at you “wasting” that inch of fabric! lol. I’m glad it’ll go into the string bin! If you had wanted to sew a few more seams you could have made 2 cuts the other direction and ended up with a 9 patch kind of thing but a finished quilt is better than perfect! Beautiful!
😂🤣😂🤣 and then let me know, right? Copycat Quilter? I thought of cutting it the other direction but also just wanted a little bit of mindless sewing to get me back into the swing of things. Thanks for watching.👍🏼😊♥️🐥
Beautiful quilt, I love the colors! I recommend using a stripology ruler for this if you have one for both the initial cutting and then squaring up. It makes this fast and easy. I rarely use any other rulers anymore.
@@sisterchicksquilting you won't regret it. I have more accuracy and can cut faster with it. It saves time and actually makes cutting fun:) I do love the colors on that layer cake, even if it is not available anymore. Such a happy quilt!
I was looking for a layer cake idea...think this will be the pattern. Thank you and Welcome Home to you, Michelle and the Engineer. So glad you had a week on the coast to build memories with family and to regroup for future projects!
I just found your RU-vid channel for the first time (through a Fabric Hut email) and very much enjoyed this video on your layer cake quilt. What is the finished size of this quilt using one layer cake? I also have never used the washi tape and will check it out, too. I will definitely be watching more of your videos! Thank you!
I bought a Rowenta iron about a year ago, was all the rage, supposed to be the best all the quilters had one. It never sprayed. Was so mad spending the money for that, went looking for another iron. I happened to see a Black and Decker on sale at Walmart for a little over $10. I’ve had other products from them, always had good luck. It sprays and irons great. It doesn’t leak either! I sure didn’t go wrong buying it.
I love easy transition quilt pattern.. so so cute. I agree it is the fabric that makes the pattern. Thanks for sharing! Glad you had a relaxing and fun vacation with family! ❤❤ Welcome back!
I have so many layercakes. I think I need to do some slicing!! I love the checkere quilt too. It has been on my to do list for some time now. I enjoyed your vacation story!! My kids just got back from a great northwest vacation. The photos they shared were amazineg. Now I'm off to check out my layer cakes. Thanks for sharing!!
You’re so lucky Linda, I absolutely love working with layer cakes. Truthfully, I generally don’t buy them, so I was so thrilled to be given so many. I love the PNW, Pacific Northwest. Thanks for watching Linda.👍🏼😊♥️🐥
That’s a great idea Dianne . I chose that layer cake because I inherited it and didn’t have to pay for it. And the colors are so bright and happy.TFW😃👍🏼♥️🐥
Love the layer cake you used Di. Happy to hear you had a great vacation! Hubby & I love to retreat to the Oregon Coast too. Lincoln City plus fishing out of Depot Bay is the best!! Looking forward to seeing your completed Sewing Room!
Love the Easy Transition quilt. You are absolutely right about it being the fabric you choose, not necessarily the pattern. Thanks for another great idea. Now I have some quick, beautiful quilts to make with all of those layer cakes!
Your quilt top turned out very pretty. Thanks for sharing with us. I have a lot of stash with no layer cakes so I'll just have to make my own. The pattern looks easy enough for me to tackle as I'm a beginner quilter. Have a great day !
Since you’re cutting your own, Connie, maybe you could make yours a little bit wider to compensate for the inch that is taken up in the seams. Then you wouldn’t have to trim yours and have a bigger quilt. Have fun and thank you for watching my channel.😊👍🏼♥️🐥
I have a question concerning your JIKI. Iam.in the market to upside my machine. Which model do you have and why? Advantages? I want a straight stitch only machine. Eventually, I hope to learn to do "free motion" quilting for my smaller projects. I have a "long armer" available for my larger quilt needs. Please give me your thoughts on this machine. I would appreciate it greatly. Thank you for your time. Mardene
Mardene, I have the TL2010-Q. The big difference between that one and the TL2000-Q is the speed control on the 2010. If you’re a FMQ this is the control you’ll want. I have a friend who loves her TL2000 but she has a Longarm and doesn’t FMQ. It sounds like you may want the 2010 if you are wanting to FMQ. I have a link in the description box below each video that takes you to Juki Junkies. They are awesome to work with and have the best education available from any Juki dealer I’ve seen, even local. TFW👍🏼😊♥️🐥
This is a beautiful quilt!y sister-in-law and I are making 8 quilts for a girls only getaway weekend & we needed simple and fast patterns - this one will be awesome!!! 👏🏻 Thank you 😊 What is the finished size? Did I miss that?
You know, I never measured it😳. But the finished block size is 8 1/2 inches, and there’s six blocks across and seven blocks down. What a fun project for your weekend getaway.👍🏼😂♥️🐥
Cute quilt! I’m new to quilting. I understand you squared up the blocks. Could you have left the blocks the original size or did they have to be squared up first? Thanks
They needed the blocks to be square to fit to the layout I chose. Technically they weren't squared up instead they only had one side cut off. I hope this helps, thanks for watching.
Love this quilt.. Can you show how to measure and do backing for the quilt. I am new have no long arm and make small quilts but backing is my struggle.
Oh boy! Now if I just remember this pattern when I get moved again (GRRR!), I have several layer cakes to use for that. I never know what to do with the layer cakes after I fall in love with them and buy them! Poor things just languish away in my drawers! I promise to make them. Hopefully, it won't take me more than three months to get settled back in! I love the fabric, and the simple design. As always, I appreciate you sharing your ideas!
Very cute! At the end of your comments, you said that you made it with a jelly roll. I don’t know if you can correct what you said, changing it from jelly roll to layer cake. Being as I’m a new quilter, there was some confusion.
Oops😳⁉️ I did mean to say layer cake. Sorry for the confusion I’m unable to change it. It stinks getting old and struggling for words. Thanks for watching😊♥️🐥
You do such great work. Quick question: I am making a quilt to go to "hot" Texas. I have not used cuddle on a bed quilt. Does the cuddle make the quilt hotter?
Yes, consider the recipients body type. I also use wool as it’s so light. It’s warm in the winter and cooler in the summer. It’s my go to batting for all y personal quilts and am under a wool quilt as I write. Give me a call this am if you need more discussion.
Very nice. I know our brains all think different. I would have had to do the 3.5" then the 2.5" so that the would be on an even number (no halves) then the 4"
Vacations are the best, we have been to the Oregon Coast many times from western 🇨🇦. The transition is beautiful- thank you for sharing the washi tape tip
Hi Di and the Engineer!! I will often just want to do mindless sewing so I grab a layer cake and cut it up and sew it back together. Cute quilt top. Loved the fabric! ❤
Did you keep the same side (3 in ) always in the same place or did you twist and turn? It's hard to tell on the video. Love the quilt and will be cutting a layer cake up soon to try it!

@@sisterchicksquilting It’s a good thing we don’t live nearby …we’d spend our days laughing so hard about engineering antics that tears would likely run down my leg. Waiting for your next video.
I'm so happy you enjoyed your vacation. Sounds wonderful and relaxing. We're planning on a vacation in CO mountains camping. I can't wait. I havent had a "real" vacation in 9 years.

I just tested it and was able to click onto the video. The link follows the description, were you pressing that? It’s not the word, “link” I hope this helps, thanks for watching.
I have 2. The DX-7, it has all the stitches. The TL 2010Q, a straight stitch power house and for good measure I've always had a Juki Serger. I wore out my first one and am happily on my second. Thanks for asking.
What a super fun way to use a layer cake!!! I know you don't like to take credit for blocks/patterns that have been around a long while, but they don't come with such fun step-by-step directions for us beginners :) I used your link for Cutterpillar & I LOVE LOVE LOVE the lighted clamp for rulers!! What a game changer for confidence & accuracy :)
I love it so much. Right now I'm working on a giant king-size quilt and it's a bear. So heavy and awkward to move in my tiny little space. I need something easy and relaxing...easy transition...thanks for the ideas!
I love the pattern but not the material. I'm a GenXer. I've had enough of bright orange and lemon yellow to last a lifetime lol. But you lost me on the washi tape part. I just use my Shape Cut. Even if it's just to straighten up an edge on a longer piece. That way I don't veer off. That's my biggest problem.
Yes, steering those rotary cutters can be a challenge, lol. I enjoy the diversity in the quilting community, jsut thin khow boring life would be if we all liked the same fabric! TFW!
I love this quilt! I also wanted to say that although I appreciated all of the creativity used in the panel quilt challenge, yours was my favorite! I have purchased panels that I’ve personally fallen out of love with. Your quilt has given me so many new and exciting ideas to do with them! I actually took them out of my donation pile and am going to borrow your nine patch idea and am super excited to see what happens! Thank you so very much for sharing all of your knowledge and creativity with your subscribers!!!❤
This is a nice quilt. Glad you enjoyed your vacation. The Engineer was funny, had to look up troglodyte. Can’t wait to see what you have for us in the next video
What cute material, too bad you can't get the layer cake anymore. This will be a nice relaxer quilt to make for sure. Thank you for another great idea!
I did a similar quilt but each cut was at a wonky angle. Unfortunately it was not as cute of a line of fabric as yours was so it was dominated by too much blue.
I don’t recognize your RU-vid handle, I’ll have to go and look 👀 OH, hi Paula! Yes, will see you on the 20th. I can’t wait. Let me just.😀 next week.👍🏼♥️🐥
