I read Ussop's "rejoining the crew" rehearsals as coming from deep shame. He's so ashamed of himself that he just wants to quickly pat things over and pretend his actions from before never really happened. It's dick-ish in practice, but not in intention. I thought it was in character for Ussop myself.
I see what you mean, maybe I was just a little irritated because I wanted him to just fess up and rejoin the crew already. I was getting impatient for that reunion haha
Lol fair enough. But it's also worth noting that without his bullshit in that moment we also wouldn't have gotten the great dynamics of Zoro, as first mate, helping Luffy to grow as a captain.
There is one little detail about the Usopp rejoining the crew scene that makes me love it even more than I already would have. Zoro threatened to leave if the FIRST thing he said wasn’t an apology and they still took him back. When the time came all the straw hats, even Zoro, pretended not to hear him until he apologized.
I always thought that Usopp not revealing himself during Merry's death was more of a selfless act. Since if he just stick as Usopp, it will create more of an awkward and uncomfortable atmosphere since they haven't properly tied the knot yet. And he also wanted to just have Merry in the spotlight and him being himself will end up kinda takes it away a little bit.
That’s true but I meant before the Merry funeral, during it would’ve been awkward as fuck but I still think it would’ve been nice, but he had plenty of time before then and he also didn’t ever have to put the mask back on. I agree it would’ve been uncomfortable but really only for him so that’s why it felt selfish
@@ShutUpDenny I can see where you're coming from. But like I said, he probably think that it was best for the crew and Merry's funeral. That's why I see it as an act of selfless action since he was doing it with the best of intention. Usopp tends to be the one who always overthink. And I kinda disagree that it would be uncomfortable only for him. While it will be the most uncomfortable for him, it would definitely affect the whole crew too. Like Zoro who haven't properly accept him as part of the crew yet. And ig from a reader's perspective, Oda does this as a way to not take away from the emotional moments of Merry's death. Cause if they do reconcile properly before Merry's death, it would probably will not make the scene as sad as it would be. Since some people might still hung up on the reconciliation. On the other hand, if they didn't reconcile beforehand, some readers might also feel the awkwardness too.
@@freddice8156 And him crying behind the mask makes the funeral more emotional. This time he has accepted that they have to part ways with the Merry like men. Sogeking is the manly alter-ego of Usopp who shows no emotions while Usopp breaks down after Merry's apology. The mask represents something more than just an excuse to work together with Straw-hats after he left them.

I do agree, the revealof how Franky made his Family is just perfect and adds so much to everything. What were introduced as villains are ultimately poor, lonely people who through franky found a home and...yes, a family, and its so touching how Franky went of his way, in his own weird pervert manner, to give this random weirdos and thugs a home. No wonder they fought so ahrd to save him.
If you read the Manga, Oda does something called the SBS Question Corner, where he answers Questions from fans at the back of the Manga. If at all possible I recommend checking that out. Oda has answered a lot of questions that enhance the experience of reading the story.
@@ShutUpDenny And also front page cover story arcs. They all just one page, but normally follow stories of other people than the Strawhats. They all canon. You should check these out too. Because sometimes the front page stories can intertwine with the main plot line.
So much is set up here it’s crazy. Everyone remembers enies lobby for Robin and the Kerry’s goodbye, but the in your face explosion of world building in post enies lobby really caps it off perfectly. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on thriller bark!
You’re so on point with expectations and structure. I still envy you for experiencing it for the first time. Catching up is not bad at all. But not knowing and witnessing greatness first hand is not an easily replicable feeling. Still keep ur reviews as original as possible despite comments like mine. Done a good job until now.
a noticeable moment is when a civilian mentions Garp encountered roger multiple times and is a hero, this combined with Aokji having respect for Garp and his ability to train koby that fast should give you an indication at Garps strength. Garp is definitely top 5 characters for me and i cant wait for you too see more of him! great video
After binging your videos to catch up to this one, and now seeing how much you loved Water 7 and Enies Lobby and how lackluster Skypiea was for you, AND the fact that most people who dislike Jaya and Skypiea tend to also dislike Thriller Bark... Well, needless to say, if I were a betting man, I'd assume you have some things to address about this next arc. Totally gonna show up to hear them of course, even if I may disagree on a lot of things at times. Also goes without saying that yes, I am one of those fans who absolutely and mindlessly enjoyed the adventure aspect of Skypiea and Thriller Bark and am only now realizing their faults.

100% doing videos by arc is the best format to do, not only do the arcs get longer but they get wildly more complex and it’s going to get extremely hard to break down even a single arc per video, I guarantee there’ll be a few part 1/2s in the future. With that being said there are still some of the shorter arcs in there too so don’t be completely worried. Also, as for your “phase” breakdown, I’m not going to poke too many holes in it but I will say that for me at least (and not an insignificant part of the fan base) phase 1 is the east blue, it’s very clearly different from the rest of the series as it’s a prologue. Then phase 2, which I refer to as classic one piece, lasts from reverse mountain until the splash down after skypeia, and water 7/ enies lobby is the first leg of a new “phase” In the story. The further you read I’d reckon the more you’ll see what I mean.
Yeah just looking at the episode length of future arcs I knew I'd have to change things up haha and interesting, I get that the East Blue is the prologue but since it flows some seamlessly into Alabasta I felt it was still part of the same phase of stories but I totally see your point and I'm sure you know way more about the story structure than I do!
@@ShutUpDenny I don’t have too many qualms with not having a huge distinction between my phase 1 and 2, and I called phase 2 classic one piece but so is phase 1, but for me the entrance into the grand line is just too huge of a plot point to not make the distinction but again I see your side 100%, however, I am pretty adamant that the third phase I talked about definitely starts with this arc rather than this saga concluding a previous one.
@@ShutUpDenny and to continue, I’m also very adamant that “classic” one piece end after skypeia. You’ve already seen in this arc how much bigger the world is becoming, and you can already start to see the shift in the story being driven by plot rather than characters. What I mean by “classic” one piece is that the draw for most people when they begin to read/ watch is the crew and their Commrardery, but by the time water 7 rolls around the draw starts becoming the desire to experience more of the world and its mysteries. This isn’t true for everyone of course, but there is a definite focus in this saga on the structure of the world at large, something that we really didn’t care too much about before. For example, in the East blue we never once cut away from the straw hats until after Arlong park and get almost no info on the world at large other than where they currently were, and now I don’t even have to point out the example for you to realize that this simply is not how the series works anymore, it’s way too big with a lot of interconnecting plot lines and character threads. This is a rambly and super long comment, so I’m sorry for that lol, but the jist of what I’m saying is that over the next few arcs/ sagas, if you take a step back and really look at the way the story is being told, it’ll be very clear why I say this and hopefully you’ll agree.

I see this arc as the end of the innocence age of One Piece. These first sagas definitely had their dark moments and the future ones definitely have their silliness but this is were the curtain is really drawn back to reveal the darkness of the world.

1. This was just a really well made video and 2. How do feel about people sharing information from Q&A's and databook's that never make it into the story , some smaller stuff like devil fruit names , the name and rank of someone's weapon , bounties for certain people and some more major information towards the back quarter of the story that Oda omitted because he was to finish One Piece before he is his 60's ( he's 46 now but he ain't finished till the back half of this decade )

There is a veriety of things , we get information related to Roger and some villains sometimes ; and some other times we just get some neat info that cool to know but doesn't affect the larger narative : like Whitebeard's naginata having a name : Murakumogiri - Gathering Cloud Cutter and rank : one of the 12 Saijo O Wazamona - same rank as Mihawk's Yoru

@@ShutUpDenny np at all! Just a heads up if you haven't read the next arc after post ennies lobby: dont go with much expectation. Its the usual breather/chill arc after a big arc and half of it as comedy centric so if you go in with that expectation, you'll like the arc much more. It does have epic and memorable moments tho so don't be discouraged!

There’s a LOT Of things i want to say to you but there’s no need, a lot Of people saying some point Of what i want to say and the others you will understand One day, maybe in 5 years when you will want to see or read another Time old saga. ( this is thé second part Of reading One piece, reread and see all the foreshadowing you never see ) However there’s One thing i want to say that i agree, this arc end all the set up about ALL ONE PIECE. There’s a lot Of way to cut One piece, by saga, by « sectors », by « Time ». But for me, if east blue is the introduction Of One piece, the post enies lobby arc is the arc where this Story stop being in « initial situation ». Its like « hey this is the world right now you don’t Know everything but you know a lot for us to tell you THIS IS THE WORLD, but do not worry because this ACTION is the trigger Of this story and will change EVRYTHING about the current world and the power who are confronted » i don’t want to add more but yeah, this final combat between ace and teach change everything
Really great video! I think the decision to do arc by arc is a good one as you have progressed in the story. I personally won’t mind if you had to split some arcs into multiple videos if you felt like you couldn’t properly talk about everything in the arc, as the arcs get longer and longer. But it is totally up to you. Also the scene with the crew talking about Usopp coming back is one of my favorite scenes. Not only is it a great conclusion to the story point of Usopp leaving the crew imo, I feel it is a good character study of the two people most in Luffy’s ear, Zoro and Nami. Luffy’s most trusted decision makers, Zoro and Nami, are on opposite sides of the issue that make sense for them. Zoro is super honor bound and just saw what a ‘crew’ looks like when they don’t respect their ‘captain’ with CP9 completely disregarding their leader in Spandam at every turn. Nami on the other hand sacrificed her entire childhood for the sake of others so of course she is willing to let Usopp’s decision be water under the bridge. The other crew members, and where they stand, also fit into their roles really well in the scene and support this divide between Zoro and Nami. Sorry for the essay but I just really love that scene and it stands out to me where I personally feel Zoro officially becomes the vice captain.
I fully agree with you on that scene. There are a couple of moments of Zoro solidifying his position on the crew in this saga such as after the Luffy and Usopp fight and I think they're all really fantastic. You make some good points about Nami too that I hadn't considered. It really is a great subtle scene for some inner crew drama that we don't see too much of
@@ShutUpDenny I’m all over the place here, but Nami is easily one of the most important members of the crew, even more important than zoro in my opinion, but it’s kind of subtle and not in your face so it goes unnoticed by a lot of people. It’s way more obvious with zoro which I find kind of funny- nami’s actual job on the ship is undoubtedly the most important, yet her real significance to Luffy goes over people’s heads, whereas zoro is the unofficial vice captain and quite literally sleeps all day long and does nothing, yet is very obviously the most (2nd imo) most important voice to luffy. It’s an Interesting dichotomy.

I like One Piece content spam. I think being a One Piece fan kind of makes you immune to feeling like "no, this is too much".. we do love a show with 1k+ episodes and 100+ volumes...
"His power was whatever". How can you call Darkness whatever? He created a Black Hole and destroyed the city. Almost no Logia fruit power can be underestimated.
I disagree about Sogeking at the burial of the Merry. If he'd unmasked, it would have made the scene about him. He cares enough about Merry not to bring that personal drama to what is essentially her funeral.
Yeah it makes sense, don’t get me wrong, just in the moment, putting myself in Usopp’s shoes, I feel like after a certain point I couldn’t justify playing dress up anymore
this three part saga was all time class and somehow oda topped it with impel down/marineford saga with post war and the asl flashback....like he did this masterpiece trio arc part saga twice somehow within 3.5 years of each other and inbetween he put in sabaody and thriller bark too lol...mans a magician
@@ShutUpDenny i think the water 7 saga hits harder cause its the crew and we lose merry and learn a lot about multiple strawhats that saga but writing wise the paramount war saga as a whole is a hair better writing wise cause it does not involve our main character besides luffy...its impressive is all I would say for different reasons
Why did usopp put on the mask? I'll explain but you'll have to put yourself in his shoes completely. It was the shame of the situation and his pride as a man which had been absolutely shattered throughout this saga. He had just fought his captain and decided to leave the crew of his OWN CHOICE. He then learns about the robin situation and wants to help but how can his pride allow him to do that for a crew that he had already left? What could he possibly say or do to not make it awkward or shameful for him? That's why the easiest way to get past that situation and focus only on Robins rescue, he put on the mask so he can pretend to be an outside source of help of course all of them knew except luffy and chooper but there were a few times where the other crew also played along with him and acted as if he wasn't usopp. Why would they do that? Because they understood why exactly usopp put on the mask. There's actually a scene inside the train when sanji rescues usopp/franky and he makes suggestive remarks about there being alot of masks inside the train. The implication is that sanji almost pushed usopp into putting the mask to get him to help that way. That'd kinda make sense since sanji is the character who understands others real emotions very well. He and luffy were the only strawhats who were sure that Robin wasn't a traitor even before it was revealed to us. Sanji was also the one who gave the uplifting speech to usopp when saving him from the wolf guy which gave usopo enough courage to save robin on the bridge.
I agree with all of that, I understand and love the reason for him putting on the mask. I meant putting it back on after already revealing to Luffy he was helping at Enies Lobby. It’s not that big of a deal but it does feel a little forced to keep the gag running
@@ShutUpDenny oh that was because there hadn't been a resolution to their fight yet. It'd be kinda weird if usopp/luffy talked it out on the merry and then the ship is suddenly dying. It makes sense from a writing perspective to keep those things apart to not let the one steal others shine. Also we wouldn't have the character moment for zoro in water7 regarding usopps apology if oda didn't wait to give it a resolution later on.
Oh really? I don't see that at all. I feel like I've seen only the extremely slightest of hints of a Zoro and Robin romance but even that is reaching. Maybe something happens later on though!

One Piece community members are overly nice because we want you to share in our suffering. Simple as that. We're all waiting for the next "I cried" moment with that creepy nodding Jack Nicholson face.
The anime only goes downhill from here because of pacing and fan service, while the manga is only getting started and from now on (almost) every arc is better than the last one story wise. If you can stand long reaction shots, filler and fan service, you’ve seen nothing when it comes to how high this story can reach.
As someone who just got done bingeing one piece the pacing issues were definitely noticeable, but it didn’t become an issue for me until Dressrosa which was pretty damn slow, but after that I feel it gets way better, while it has it’s still a great anime but that’s just my opinion. If you had to watch this show weekly I could definitely understand how it would ruin your enjoyment of the show.
