Being Asian, I do understand the rage when a childhood favourite is butchered by a chef that is obviously not familiar with the ingredients used (like an overusage of ingredients like oyster sauce, fish sauce, ginger etc in my case). That said, the purpose of the foodtubers are to encourage people to cook food with simple recipes and move away from all that preserved mumbo jumbo, so, it's a good cause, I have to say. It also helps that you have been one of the most genuine foodtubers around. So yes, it's not a legit Italian recipe, and it never will be. All I know is, I sure as hell will make this at home. Thanks for the good work, Donal.

where do you live in, I'm Asian too and it's frustrating to get a dish destroyed.

Can you expand anymore on this plain of thinking? I really don't understand your frustration if someone else cooks a classic recipe incorrectly, surely they haven't taken anything away, the original recipe still exists no?

+maple waffleton If you've got an oven, this version is >not< 'simplified'! You could follow the same exact recipe, and it would be easier to bake it. Easier to assemble. Easier to control the cooking. Easier to serve. Nicer looking. (The food dressers have been all over that final shot). Same amount of washing up. If you haven't got an oven, though, fair enough.

The things is, most people who complain about dishes being ruined are doing so only because the fact that they've seen something different from what they're used to. And many times that is so unecessary because it doesn't have to be the classic recipe to be delicious and perfect in it's own way.
@chiciebee

As long as the chef doesn't falsely claim it is actually the original/traditional recipe/method, there is no gripe to be had. Tweaks and experimentation are creativity in cooking and should be encouraged.

Shoot.. I don't even have a stove or oven in the dorms..! I can't even have a toaster since some guys put store bought tortillas in a toaster to make tortilla chips (I'm sure you could figure out how that turned out 😂) guys will be guys though.. but there is a fully stocked kitchen down on the first floor.

my friend there are so many recipes from all over the world that you can make with just a stove, basic ingredients and not too much culinary skills, believe me. Mediterranean cuisine is very simple, fresh with no need of too many tools. Please extend your research a bit over "one pot recipes" or stuff like "how to cook in 3 minutes" because at this point it's better to go out and get a nice sandwich. Keep digging in the Web, just get info from proper chef, not youtubers. Don't give up!!😀

He didn't "have to" state that. If butthurt Italians want to complain, they will, and you can ignore them like I do. There are probably a lot of Italians who would want to make this recipe (you know, we have creative and open-minded cooks here as well!), but are demotivated by the fact that he called them out, and they find a hostile comment section. Why does it have to be about nationality? Your comment and those alike are sadder than the ones complaining about the recipe. But of course you get the most likes because people like having a common enemy.

please, check classic lasagna recipe and try to make it. It is even simpler. This here is just for hype, views, giggles, "oNePoT" thing. Your roommate will be impressed even more. Cooking is joy. Tradition is not bad, tradition came out after centuries of experiments. THIS is not lasagna. THIS needs another name, but not lasagna. I bet you will be glad to try out classic, then you can modify it however you want once you know how things work out. :D

@@user-st9ym6dd7s as a student with no oven and who made traditional lasagne before, this recipe is finee. Cooking is an art and being creative is fun and absolutely okay lol. Let's stop getting defensive and let people do what they like.
@user-st9ym6dd7s
@user-st9ym6dd7s 2 года назад
@@alicej- cooking is art with some basic rules. It's chemistry, and you can't change the laws of nature. You can't just mix random stuff and expect it to taste good just because you wish for it. You can be creative, but only within the framework. My gf is creative in her cooking. She can invent a dish on a go. But to achive it, she personally studied the food all the time, how different spices taste separately, how do they taste like combined. Then she could imagine and predict the taste of new combinations in her head, and reality was just confirming it. She doesn't throw random stuff into the pot. That's why a tradition is studied first, in order to learn the working system. Cooking is art, and creative, but it's not like painting. It's more conditioned. I can understand the absence of the oven, but some people will advocate that no oven is such a creative improvement, which is just not. It's more about the attitude, with which I got an issue. Student with no oven myself, I was desperate for lasagna and wanted to try cooking it in a pot too. But luckily, the room with ovens to use for free opened in my dormitory :D
@alicej-
@alicej- 2 года назад
@@user-st9ym6dd7s i agree with everything you said except one ; no one claimed it was an improvement. Moreover sometimes we can change traditional dishes, add and subtract ingredients at our convenience, the end result will definitely not be exactly the same but i think this recipe was not the worst case scenario. Anyway, what i wanted to say is let's stop getting defensive you know? As long as no one claims that it's original it's finee, at least that's what i think. (And even painting has basic rules, people don't go to art school to show off yknw)

The basic problem is that we really feel bad, i make disgusted face every time, when we see some one, using something that's was created after years of try and try, and completly destory the recipe. It's our heritage and we are very proud of it, and belive me no one would be happy if some one copy your hard work and on top of that they even screw up and sell it like yours. so don't sell something that it's not italian for italian and no italian will attack u simple as that. sorry if i made some english mistake but my first language it's ITALIANO.

@@adoramacy1059 omg don't! unless you want to get some food infection or eat bland food. This is the reason why lasagna is cooked in oven, not in pot. Burnt is harmful, undercooked is harmful. If you don't have oven and still want to go with it, just cook proper bolognese ragout for at least 2 hours (this is not a dish to be hasty about, mind that, Ukrainian dishes take even more time to be cooked for example) and cook lasagna al dente in boiling water before assembling everything. 2 hours will drag even more flavours out of meat, proper soffritto is important, I also love using various fresh juices instead of wine to get the extra flavours into ragout. I think you can adjust it really well next time. But if you have oven, please use it, nothing difficult about it and even quicker. Any meat ragout needs time, more time you slowly simmer it, tastier it gets. This vid is for the views and making money. Don't get deluded, and make yourself a little celebration in your mouth once you have enough time for it. :D

I tried your *coff coff Martha Stewart's coff coff* one pot pasta, and it was a roaring success, and very delicious. I served it up with a pork meat sauce around the edge of the bowl, and a creamy mushroom sauce on top. Everyone cleared their plates. So I will definitely try this, although my pensioner parents need folic acid, so I may bung in some fresh spinach as well.

A.D muthukumaraswamy those are lasagna noodles. they're wide, rectangular noodles, like a firmer version of ho fan (河粉) this is an example of the noodles he used: www.sabatelligastronomia.it/en/catering-on-board/lasagnasheets if u get the dried kind you should boil them a little first (or just break them into slightly smaller pieces to fit the pot like Donal did)

My great grandparents came from Delianuova in Calabria. My nonna and her parents immigrated here to Perth, Western Australia in 1928. My nonna told me that when they lived in Italy her family did not have an oven. They only had a tripod enough for one pot to cook on that used wood as it fuel. Hence they may have liked this one pot stove top lasagna. This is such a good version of lasagna, as it shows people how to cook lasagna only with a stove top. Many people do not have enough money for an oven, but this is a great recipe for people who want great Italian lasagna that do not have an oven.
@flower-uw1hm
@flower-uw1hm 4 года назад
I am Italian and I did not kick your ass - instead I praised you. But I do not think that this tasty stove top lasagna is a quick preparation dish. It would probably take at least 30-45 minutes. So in future please tell us how long these "quick" dishes actually take to prepare.

Right? I really dislike how he misused that.. A one pot one put everything in it, leave it one heat, and come back to finished product. This is not even close. It is just lasagna cooked in a pot instead of in the oven...

@wearmeout1

"one pot" doesn't mean you can't use other utensils to help you out. it means the actual cooking happens in just one pot, which is what he did
@Kraviken
@Kraviken 7 лет назад
Bruna That is wrong. One pot means one put everything right in one pot. Heat it, and eat it.. Simple as that. Look at his one pot pasta video. That is an actual "one pot" recipe. At most one have to stir the pot once or twice as it cooks. One DEFINITIVELY never have to remove something from the pot. And one does NEVER have to mix the ingredients in another bowl or some crap like he did.. :)
@alexzhang8710
@alexzhang8710 7 лет назад
Exactly! I just thought why he didn't bake this dish in the white baking pan which he kept half of the sauce in. Anyway he had two pans have to wash! The benefit of one-pot dish is less washing isn't it?

Jura Martynas: "Adesso capisci che cosa proviamo quando vediamo la tua di foto"..... "Un complimenta a uno come te e una donazione del sangue dagli occhi" ?????? I don't know what your native language is (spanish, probably), but it's sadly obvious that you used crappy online translation software in a sadly failed attempted to insult Andrea Spatia. If you're going to troll/insult someone in their own native language, at least have the decency to do it in a non-illiterate manner. Google translate is not going to help you accomplish this task, I promise you that! The actual translation of what you said was: "And now you understand what we try when we see your photo" I think you were trying to say: "now you know how we feel when we see your pic". In your next comment, you actually said "a compliment for someone like you and a gift of blood from the eyes" and you were unsure of whether or not to use the masculine or feminine version of 'you', so you used both simultaneously (uno/a). Now I have no clue what you were trying to say in your second insult. I could not figure it out at all!
