Father & son bonding over bondo! If that ain’t an iconic American scene…. I’ll kiss your grits!!! I had a ‘72 GMC Sierra Grande pickup. I drove it from ‘84 - ‘93. I paid $2000 for it… and got $1500 in trade. About 5 years later the internet showed up around here. So, I looked to see what they were worth. $5000 untouched and $15,000 faithfully restored! So buddy, don’t go any deeper than cosmetics with your repairs and Bo will have a nice little nest egg! All of those old paint colors faded. They didn’t use UV inhibitors or clear coat. Red was the worst. My ‘88 Ford pickup turned pink one summer. Restoring the color was easy… an afternoon of Turtle Wax, elbow grease and cold beer did the trick! The waxing rag looked like it had cleaned up a murder site. So much oxidized paint came off, I thought I’d rub right through. Buddy, keep chipping away… you’ll have a pride & joy that is indeed a joy to be proud to own!
I feel like I’m running out of elbow grease I would probably have to hire you to do that for me lol yeah any free time I got that’s all the boy wants to do is ride around in that old truck he loves it! Thanks for watching ol buddy 🤙🏻
My grandmother on dad's side had a 71' Orange Super Cheyenne C10 Chevy with 350 & Automatic. My grandmother was 5'4" & small framed . But between her Truck & 76' Cadillac with 500 V8 she had a lead foot & didn't spare any horses from under the hood. The 71 Chevy stayed in the family until 2009 when someone hit my uncle & totaled the truck out. Mack
I have a 78 Chevy 3/4 ton camper special that I bought new when I graduated high screwl . It’s been setting about 5 years and it’s time for a revive . Nothing like that old iron .
Good video again that is a good looking truck my friend there ain’t nothing like working in the shop with your son good times keep a good good videos coming be safe my friend
Love the old trucks, I will be watching to see the fun. I had my grandfather's 64 F 100 that was sold while I was away in the service, my dream is to locate and restore one with my grandsons. Love your attitude and willingness to find light in all things! Keep up the good work young man!
Love the color thats a wiper cowl cover. The faded color on the truck almost looks like gm seafoam green or gm aqua which is a very nice color look em up. I love the aqua color.
The master welder using bondo make me smile... but Arron... it is nice to see you do something for yourself... normally we see you help others... nice truck and great project whit your son... thumbs up 👍
Thank you buddy and I know using Bondo first time I have ever really used Bondo I just want to see for myself how it holds up thank you for watching 🤙🏻
Thank you buddy and I know using Bondo first time I have ever really used Bondo I just want to see for myself how it holds up thank you for watching 🤙🏻
Whats up M B T S love the new truck the color is really cool hope you do it right. But one thing I must tell you is that in your garage the walls just have the insulation up with nothing covering it just bare paper on the walls, Just think any kind of a little spark will set it off big time -grinder welding you should really think of rocking that place you and a couple of buds could knock it out in one day.
It is in a canny condition for a 53 year old pickup Aaron !! Sometimes it is not worth picking up the camera for doing the odd hour or so here and there, you would spend more time behind the camera than working 🤷♂️😂 Good to see Beau (Child Behind The Scenes) getting stuck in and getting bored of sanding, who can blame him ??? The turquoise colour was used on police cars over here, they would buy half a fleet of white and half a fleet of turquoise cars, swap doors and sometimes bonnets and boot lids to get the cars to stand out !!!
the panel you painted that the wipers go thru is a cowl. I restored a 1971 GMC to show truck condition. Once I started farming, I no longer had time for the collection. Sold all of them. Now wish I would have kept two of them, my 1959 Chevrolet Apache and my 1954 GMC. Your 69 and my 71 was my favorite body style. They ran it from 1967 to 1972. The front slope on the 67 hoods was very shallow. After that they put more of a bull nose on them. You will love it when it's done!
Nice project ahead of you, keep the little guy involved as much as you can for sure. Just keep your toys under control, we all been there, family first 😉 Keep them coming when you can, we all know what we have things that pop up, so one step at a time. Take care Aaron 👍🇺🇸
Normally a grinder and remove there rust, Get a small iron patch/piece and the whe guy with the welder take over and get some blobs to get patch to stick and after that some bondo. But what do i know i'm just a viewer and your the welder. :P But some light would be great, so we can see would be great. (Wiper) Cowl = piece between the hood and windshield
Oh I agree 100% there are a lot of reasons why I did what a did the shop was full and I had to do this at my house and I didn’t have a welder at the house but it’s gonna make for a good future video thanks for watching 🤙🏻
Good morning Aaron. It sure is nice seeing Bo out there with you. He had a great attitude working with you. That is probably the finest skill a person can have. May you continue to bless people, and may they bless you. Ed from Chicago 😁
The paint shop should be able to match the factory color from the serial number if that is what you wanted but myself i like that teal/blue or turquoise/blue it looks different then most colors you see on trucks now days ! On the floor patch on drivers side near the gas tank you should put some window screen taped on outside it stopped the bondo from falling through plus gives it strength I used the old metal screen but the plastic screen works as good and dont rust ! If you had let us know your plans ahead time some of us gladly gave you tips to help save both time & money !
I know I know I apologize for that but this is the first time I used Bondo besides doing a little skim coating so there maybe a future video removing and replacing with metal if the world ever gets back to normal and you can get parts thanks for watching 🤙🏻
A safe ride, are you kidding! I bet you honk on it first time out man. Good luck. My old car is a 79 MGB in Mint condition now. Great to see you working with your son on the project. Memories being made for life!
Love that fat tire chopper i got a 04 big dog wit a 117 s/s with a 250mm rear tire . love that 69 i got a 68, 70 ,72 thats a gmc an a 70c50 dumptruck. Dad has a 71c10 to.
❤️That's the same pickup I drove to high-school lol, only different from is mine ran every day, color was shiny copper. Yours is going to be a monster, that's a great color for yours stands out nicely. God Bless and have a great day. 🇺🇸
C10's nice though I'm more of a 60's Ford man myself. That's what I cut my eye teeth on any way. BUT lets talk about the Harley in the room... 🤣😂🤣 SWEET.
@@aaronbummmanbehindthescene4931 Ha Ha Sportster .... half a Harley is better than no Harley at all.... OMG I've caught some flack saying that at a biker party he he ... The thing is everyone agreed and laughed.
@@Fatamus now we are talkin that’s a real bike don’t blame the back blame the wife lol 😝😂😂 that’s who I always blame it on for only having one hard tail rigid frame bike I had 4
Got yourself a good project truck right there 👍🏼 The stretched scooter looks a lot like the Ironhorse I used to have. 113” S&S with bobbed fender and 240 rear tire, hard tail
My brother in law has a 72 that his ex wife decided to take a hammer to when they got divorced, now it has to be completely restored because it was his first truck that he bought with his paper route money when he was a kid. Looking forward to watching you restore your dream truck. 👍🏻🇺🇸
Aaron, I was a bit disappointed to see you (a Welder) patching with Bondo. Watch "Fitzee's Fabrications" on RU-vid and see how to actually replace the holes in the sheet metal to regain the strength. It is nice to see you trying to save that ole gal.
I know I’ve done cab corners rockers floor pans trunk pans and patched holes filling with weld a lot of things fell into the play of why I did this and I have never done Bondo so now I myself will get to see how it holds up thank you for watching 🤙🏻
@@aaronbummmanbehindthescene4931 I get that Aaron, Bondo can be Fun. I remember my Dad teaching me, he cautioned me to use thin layers to avoid cracking as it cured and a Body Rasp to remove high spots and lumps to save a lot of sanding. I really enjoy watching the videos, just finished DP's latest today, and I hope to see you on Kleeman's in the future. Good Friends are hard to come by and all of you seem to really have that conversation. Keep up the Good Work and Thank You for Sharing with all us in RU-vid Land!
If the fuel tank wasn't there. I know Dirt Perfect got a guy that welds alot for him and is pretty good. I think you could have got him to weld up them holes if it wasn't for the tank.
And if he had that mig welder hint hint long story short I was limited on time and no space in the shop for my poor truck but hey maybe a future video thanks for watching 🤙🏻
First truck I learned to drive was a C series when I was big enough to reach the pedals... Is that left over filler you use to hide DP's welds🤣🤣 Sweet ride Aaron... Love that you get your boy involved...He will never forget helping you..
Yeah Dennis you are right I’ve welded in cab corners rockers floor pans trunk pans this is the first time have ever really done Bondo work so maybe a future video on replacing it lol thanks for watching 🤙🏻
Love the bondo 😁 Don't get the other comments. It's just small holes and you got to try things out.. quite amazed how little rust is shown.. hope you give the underside a good seal to prevent the iron rustig away from the bondo.
@@aaronbummmanbehindthescene4931 try LMC Truck for the tank. I looked and they have a tank for about $200. But then you have to get some other parts also
ya she is in nice shape keep it as original as you can for sure. mine was a 68 cmc c10 short box custom 307 two speed power glide. but i was younger when i sold it. now older kicking my butt for that. good to see more. cheers buddy.
@@aaronbummmanbehindthescene4931 one of three man good luck somewhere down the road will be watchin with great interest with the projects cheers stay safe and well
Is Bo going to let you use his booster seat? I hear that Kleeman is a pretty good welder now- are you going to hire him in for the patch panels? I’m sure that will turn out really good. Try not to rush yourself. My dad had a 70 GMC stepside long box with a straight six and a suicide shift. It was gold with a white roof from what I can remember.
Aaron 2 things 1 the vin number should give the paint colors and 2 when you mix bondo use a glass it mixs better and you can clean off what is hard up. Also show some pictures of your MC so we all see what you ride. Ok this Bob from Vero beach Fla. God bless stay safe and have a great day
You are right we ran the vin and the two auto part stores we got here that I get everything from could not get the exact color so I just ran with the closet they had and I am working on a video showing the bikes but one is a 06 heritage softail and the other is a custom build we did in 2014 and a 2003 883 sportster thanks for watching 🤙🏻
@@aaronbummmanbehindthescene4931 Aaron, I’ve been watching a channel called “The Old Mans Garage” formerly “SRC Garage”. He had the same problem matching paint to the paint codes, he went to his local parts store and brought home a special camera and took pictures of the painted areas he wanted to match, brought it back and not only did they match it, they packaged it in an aresol spray can. I haven’t heard of anyone doing this before!! The store was in Ohio. They’re restomoding an old C10. Check em out. Good channel. You might get some feedback from him on where they might have a paint dealer who does the same process near you. Looking good my friend!
A-Ron, I picked up a 88 GMC long bed regular cab running n driving last week for a Hondo. She's got some hickey's but no rot anywhere. I'm slowly gonna get her back looking good. It's just like your truck, a work in progress. Thanks for taking us along on the build. Dirt Perfect might learn something
The BIGGEST suggestion I can make---- do away with that "in cab" gas tank and put an "in frame" one in!!! I would love to help you out with that! (to me,,,, driving around with 21 gallons of fuel in the cab with you is never a good idea!)
Yes I really do plan on doing that buddy I’ve been looking at the kits not so much for me but when Beau gets the truck I want it safe thank you for watching 🤙🏻
