Not hard to understand how a warm/hot shower would trigger a "glimmer"...My warm bath at night does this. It's a great way to relax and connect with safety. It's a very easy and and simple to do. Great conversation that brings things into a perspective. Sometimes this mind body understanding can be too vague but your insights here are spot on and bring a simpler understanding of what feeling safe actually is and how it feels. We often feel more relaxed during the day but we miss it. Feelings and sensations come and go for all of us but the sense of danger is more extreme and so we pay more attention to it. A relaxed feeling is softer and less noticeable.

Loved the conversation.... The idea of "glimmers" really makes me think about things I already do to relax my mind and body.... Meditation; Qigong; Hot Showers before bed; The first cup of coffee in the morning etc... I never really thought about how I felt when doing these things and how they might help with chronic pain. I will definitely think about other things that will trigger a glimmer. A Glimmer of Hope.🥰

I really enjoyed the conversation and interaction between you both. I loved the idea of Safe Soup and Glimmer Moments - both I really relate to. Thanks to your channel I am well on the way to making a full recovery. I have no doubts that without you - I would be very far from any sort of recovery. Thank you Tanner and thank you Anne.

@@painpsychotherapy Thanks to listening to your channel I bought Alan Gordon's book - The Way Out. Wonderful book - easy to read, no 'work sheets' to complete - just a simple approach to TMS recovery. I love your channel because you don't try pushing me to buy your own book (do you have one?) - nor do you constantly say I should sign up for therapy sessions. I appreciate you must have a really busy schedule - but more podcasts with your partner, alongside your own videos would be great. Thank you for being here for me.

I loved the glimmers and "cues of safety" part of your conversation. I had no idea I was doing that! No matter how much fibro pain I"m in - if I can create what I called "a beautiful morning" the rest of the day goes SO much better! I do yoga or Chi Gong, or may dry brush my skin while watching bird videos (great for lymph drainage). In the spring and summer, my beautiful morning is a short walk listening to the birds and watching the sunrise. All these create a beautiful morning AND a better attitude no matter how I feel when I wake up! But it's fascinating to know that kind of thing is a "cue of safety" and has been studied. Thanks, Tanner and Anne!

As someone with ME/CFS, POTS etc etc who loves to dance I saw your handle and wanted to say hey 👋. Dancing Diva is an awesome handle ❤

@@ManifestingItAll Thank you! When I recovered most of my health and began dancing again after 20 years disabled by benzos, a lovely lady I gave me that name - I love it too! I too have MEFM, and the meds made it worse, not better, misdiagnosed as 5 "incurable" diseases. When I finally tapered off, I began (to my astonishment) to recover my health. I literally went from crawling -- my blood pressure was so dangerously and "incurably" low -- to dancing! I got 80% better by quitting, and facing the traumas and griefs behind the dependency and pain. as Tyler mentions in another video. Dancing was key - after writing out feelings in a journal, I'd dance out any challenging ones still remaining. I had 6 glorious years free of ME/CFS entirely, and largely free from fibro. But years of inescapable stresses brought a lot of it back. So I'm learning wonderful new ways of rewiring my oversensitive crocodile brain. After 20 years disabled, largely housebound and bedridden, it's a thrill to have become a dancer again! Dancing is wonderfully healing isn't it? Fun, playful, creative - and such a great way to express your emotions! If you have a video of you, I'd love to see it. Here's one of me. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UuPAwMxnPNY.html

Thank you both for another wonderful program. I think this is the first time I saw Anne in a video. Two of the ingredients in my safety soup are this channel and your joint podcast. It’s always a special treat to listen to when taking a break or in the evening. Anne needs a mug with a lid! To keep out curious kitty paws❤😂 I use a plastic container lid that sort of fits my coffee/tea mug. ☕️❤🫖💚

This is such a great informative and relaxing time. Really enjoyed your time with this topic. I've been a cold or room temperature beverage drinker for years and now I'm reconsidering. I have 2 black cats (and a golden retriever) in the house and I noticed something about cats and tea bags. When the teabag is on the floor and dried up, the string sure does remind me of one of their many mouse toys 😅😆 I suggest putting it on something flat and not breakable when it's done seeping. 6 or 7 broken mugs and countless saucers broke as well, I use paper plates or something else non stick. Paper towels tend to dry to the bag and it just makes a mess 😅 I am an instant fan of you 2 hanging out. The couple's dynamic is very helpful Thank you 🫂💝🌞🌻

Thanks so much for your amazing channel. I got bursitis from tetanus inj that was administered too high up on my arm. Just several hours later it started hurting badly and making awful clicking/snapping and grinding sounds in the top of shoulder and bursa area with any arm movement. Four months later, its still the same - pain in shoulder and going down the whole arm and those tendon/ligament snapping sounds on top of the shoulder. I got scans done which confirmed bursitis and shoulder impingement. I've read stories of people getting shoulder injuries from poorly administered injections and how many people have suffered with permanent shoulder pain and disability, even turning into things like frozen shoulder, rotor cuff tears and losing complete mobility of arm. I'm terrified this may happen to me as I continue to lift weights through the pain (I have always loved weight lifting so this shoulder issue is really affecting my inner peace as I'm scared what the future holds). I feel this is ruining the quality of my life not to mention fear and anxiety all night and day. Surely my shoulder should be healed after four months??? Do you think this could be mind body, or purely structural? Thanks so much for reading...

Don't overcomplicate it = safety, Sarno had great results by keeping it simple.... Lots of people get lost with to much info...it's the too much thinking about solving this that causes tms. Simplifying = key. But it's always good to know how the system works. We need too take action and stop watching these videos when we know enough. Stay safe everyone.

Thanks to you two for sharing this podacast/video. As always this is very informative and you are my best resource (along with Suzy Bolt in the UK) for mind-body regulation. Would you say that Joy in general is one major cues of safety?
@painpsychotherapy
@painpsychotherapy 8 месяцев назад
I'm so happy this was helpful. Joy can be part of a glimmer, and typically is an emotional response to our nervous system detecting cues of safety.

For women, sometimes a cold shower is too much; we are meant to be warm. But I like to dunk my face in my hands full of cold water, like 7 times, first thing in the morning and that is relaxing and refreshing.

I'm so sorry to hear what you are going through. It is difficult over social media for me to say what would be best for you, as I am uncertain what you have done. Sometimes it can be helpful to mix up the approach and try something new or something old in a different way.

So a question about the hot/cold shower. I have a hot shower. Then I go completely cold (I only last 30 secs). But then I have to go hot again. Otherwise I feel cold the rest of the day. Does that still have the same effect on the nervous system or should I be finishing with cold?
@painpsychotherapy
@painpsychotherapy 8 месяцев назад
Good question. I am uncertain if this would cause a differing in effect. Personally I like to go hot, cold ,hot, cold!

I'm pretty sure I recall Wim Hof says that a hot shower AFTER a cold one is just fine in one of his videos on cold showers and ice dunking. I hated cold showers with a passion and too was miserably cold until I began doing his breathing before. Now I enjoy the effects and warm up again quickly.
