I love your wording of calling him the most dangerous man in the world, because it’s not even a suggestive metaphor, it’s literally true.
@StoryArk
@StoryArk 2 года назад
Oh yeah, a rare occasion for that phrase to NOT be hyperbole. And it’s not just his power, but his tenuous mental state, too, which makes it true.

This scene was really amazing and Anthony Starr really sells his weaknesses. But soon we’ll see if his final breaking point comes.

@@StoryArk Yeah, that’s certainly going to be the biggest, scariest moment for this series. Unless something else comes up.

To further praise Starr’s performance in this…my husband worked the entire run of American Gothic with him. Then he got to help out with some of s1 of the Boys-specifically the scene where Homelander attacks the terrorists and kills them. It took until the show was out and he looked at IMDB that he clued in that he knew the actor already.
@StoryArk
@StoryArk 2 года назад
Oh wow, that's incredible. Very cool that your husband got to work not only on The Boys, specifically on a scene with Starr! Dude is a chameleon, for sure!

@@StoryArk he’d hoped that he would get on the Hawkeye reshoots they did in Scarborough since he’s on Renner’s new show atm but they couldn’t spare sharing crew between both. Should be interesting when Kingstown comes out they’ve done done fun things. Spoilers often float my way and I’m happy to share.

Each new episode i think I've seen the worst and then the next one slaps me across the face. When that scene of homelander lazering the crowd of protesters played my jaw dropped, it triggered a visceral fear response in my brain. My eyes teared up, and I was freaked because it was so jarring and I couldn't believe he'd done it. It left me stunned and when they revealed that it was just his imagination the amount of relief I felt was immense but also fleeting because there's that lingering concern that he could just murder the whole world at any point
@StoryArk
@StoryArk 2 года назад
Absolutely. We saw what the ticking time bomb wants to do, and now we're all just waiting for him to go off. It's going to get more nail-biting every episode and season.

I love homelander because I can go from feeling bad for him due to how horribly he was raised to completely despising some of the stuff he does. He clearly is trying to fill a hole that was left there from his childhood but he constantly goes about filling that hole in the worst ways possible which continues and each time he fails to fill the void it chips away more of his sanity. We all know it’s going lead ti him snapping eventually and it’s interesting to wonder how much he’s responsible for the things he’s done (Obviously he does deserve a lot of blame) vs the people who helped send him down this path.
@StoryArk

Agreed, they've done a magnificent job in creating an (almost) sympathetic villain, despite him being one of the most vicious, despicable characters to grace a television series. Major credit to not only the showrunners, but Anthony Starr for bringing that nuance to every scene he's in.

A good scene analysis at a thoughtful pace. The scene I expected you to pick was when he lasered the crowd of protestors, maybe the scene in the airplane but this was a good scene to pick - as you say, it perfectly described his weakness and was when he was defeated. Great choice.

At 8:29 Anyone who knows this scene could get why I use it in a video of a song called Sleep Away The Pain. I say “… that’s why they team up (showing the scene of Butcher and Soldier Boy holding Homelander down)” immediately followed by this shot when I finish saying “on the one that’s known as Charco Rose”. Now I have a video I can direct folks to that think they know everything about a character in a show they’ve never watched (just goes off what others, that don’t watch the show either, say about them).

I don't really think its so much that Starr is a "genius" at his performance, its probably just that he's uncomfortably close to being a real life Homelander outside the set according to his castmates.

How is killmonger relatable? 1. Found his parents dead body 2. Orphaned early in childhood 3. Joined military specifically to learn to kill ppl. 4. Is a Mary stew great at a LOT and doesn’t really struggle 5. Willing to kill anyone and loves NO ONE. 6. Thinks for himself and bows not bends to no one. So much so that THAT is his demise. Most ppl did not loose their parents. Especially didn’t find their body. Most ppl join the military for: family and tradition, no goal in life, or patriotism. Not for the sake of freely murdering. Naturally gifted is why Superman ISNT relatable to most ppl. Most ppl love someone and won’t betray anyone and everyone. And most ppl follow a bunch of rules and guidelines that they themselves do not like. And yet… you said… relatable? He’s cool. Great fold to black panther. An awesome character. But… relatable?.

Homelander: An exaggerated representation of hyper masculinity and metrosexuality in hollywood. Yea, TOTALLY a far right character. You do understand that the one place you are allowed to say "Nazi" is in the context of a character who was literally a Nazi, right? That's precious. You're protected by your rights to say that. That's called freedom. That thing that hundreds of thousands of people were willing to die for, but now grown men can't muster the fucking nerve to say a goddamn word they're FREE TO USE?

@StoryArk
@StoryArk 2 года назад
Not so much that I "can't" say it. Absolutely can and the video won't be taken down. But, larger RU-vidrs have noted that it *may* get views suppressed, so I'll just take no chance while growing. Fighting through an algorithm is enough struggle as it is, ha.
