Well...I caved, and ended up with a Onewheel Pint X. Yes, the Onewheel GT is still on order, and I'm eagerly awaiting it. However, my original Pint is currently non-functional and in pieces. So all that was left is my precious XR. Wanting a Pint anyway, I ended up with a tennis ball yellow X.
After a quick chase-down of the UPS truck that said they missed me, this puppy came home and my daughter and I unboxed it. Then I charged it up and took it for a bit of ride.
I'll be doing a review on this, of course, as well as some comparisons. After just a day of riding though, I can say that I do like it quite a bit. It is notably a different board than the regular Pint. The weight makes it respond a bit differently, and carving and throwing it around feels very different.

The best One wheel feeling is when a soccer mom flies past you only for her to be stopped at a red light. while you catch up and then leave her in the dust... looking forward to seeing more Pint X rides! I wonder if i can keep up in my ancient XR lol. 😊

But where was the sexy commentary from that rididulously awesome voice about your feelings of the ride afterward?!?!? Looks solid man. I love that you give everything a try. I'll get a GT eventually, the Pint and Pint X just aren't for my everyday needs. As someone that commutes exclusively by a modififed Onewheel XR and public transit for the big miles, it just doesn't work for me to purchase them, HOWEVER, I love everyone who finds stoke in them. Stoke is stoke bro and I don't mind waiting on the Pints in group rides. Gives me time to get to know the awesome people that have found stoke in the local community.

Future Motion can fuck itself with the FOMO on rail colors. I wanted those yellow rails, but just bought a normal Pint in March, so wasn't keen on dumping another $1200. The yellow rails were unavailable like four days after launch. They truly hold their customers in contempt. But thanks for the video so I can live vicariously through you haha

Great Footage Mario! Noob subscriber here. Esk8 was my first entry into board sports and I’m super intrigued by the onewheel, and pre ordered the GT. I am ultra nervous about balance on the onewheel. Really looking forward to your review of the X, especially regarding your perception of whether or not there is any increased torque/power over the original pint. Increased torque is the only thing that piqued my interest in the GT... but I'd never utilize the GT's range, and I don't want a 35 lb. board, or a board with a proprietary tire size. Thanks Mario.

Yes! I've got around 400mi on a PintX and am very happy with it. It does have more torque than my Pint or XR had. Sold the XR and pint, and have no regrets.@@Pg-ch5nb

hi Mario. love your vids (I'm NYC local too btw we should ride sometime). How would you compare the top speed from the XR to Pint X? Is it a noticeable difference between the two? It's only a listed 1mph difference but I wonder if the XR feels a lot faster or if they're pretty similar now.

The xr is a lot faster and that’s due to how pushback works pushback on the xr is extremely subtle and not aggressive compared to the pint so riders on the xr push through pushback to gain higher speeds most xr riders do that and you can hit low 20s my personal max cause I have a xr is 22mph but I’ve seen riders on the Internet hit 25 27 etc however those people nosedived however if you don’t push through pushback then the xr and pint x go about the same speed about 16.5 to 17 mph before pushback happens but the pints pushback is wayyy more aggressive so people don’t advice you to ride through pushback on that like you can on the xr and possibly the gt

It's actually a bit different, although mostly it feels for physical reasons. The extra weight changes the ride feel, and while it's still nimble, it feels more substantial when turning. The ground clearance is less, and it does scrape. Also, the footpad is VERY inconsistent. I've never experienced this much trouble with sensor activation and deactivation. It's actually really frustrating.

@@TheBoardGarage well let's see how long it takes FM to adress the sensor for a new product that they have been making foe a while now and only changing the battery that's ya unfortunate. The clearance thing worries me a bit for the GT since the tire didn't really get any bigger....... I dont know why I have this feeling the GT clearance was an oversight on FMs part. CBXR might still be the way to go.

I haven't. Sensors are an odd thing and have presented issues to folks who transplant them. I'm not a big fan of a lot of concave personally, so I've been content with the stock profile of the sensor.

That's the difference between starting on an XR versus starting on a Pint isn't it? Pushback is too little moving to an XR versus pushback being to much moving to a Pint. Perception and personal experience is everything. I can't stand the extra pushback of a Pint at high speed straightaways, but I love the Pint on slower sidewalk cruises. Stoke is stoke my dude, do and buy whatever feels best for your ride!

But there’s a lot of very variables that go into it talking about the xr specifically like your weight if your going up a incline if your riding toward wind or if it’s to your back battery percentage etc but to answer to your question the xr is faster it’s also bigger so it feels more safe to go that fast and just more stable it’s just a better board tbh and it sucks future motion no longer sells the xr anymore

I have a question Mario. What are your thoughts regarding the general power (not the range or speed) of the X versus the original? Do you feel that hill climbs are more punchier, and other things that may have strained the original?

It does seem as though the Pint X has more power in it. Accelerations feel punchier and it's a bit more capable on hills.

Great video! Any concerns about charging at 3.5 amps instead of Ultracharger's 3 amps? You had mentioned to me that 3.5 was the upper limit on the Pint BMS, so I'd have concerns about being right up at that limit.

I don't personally have any concerns with it. I'd charge my original Pint at that speed with no ill effects, and aside from the battery being larger, it seems the X is somewhat improved. I'll still use the stock charger if I'm not in a hurry, but I'm not worried about the faster one.

This is a good point. The XR is 10A rated for charging but obvs that isn't sensible. I regularly charge mine at 7A with my extended range CnR unit. It draws about 5A in normal CnR ridring. Do the Pint charging components differ in charging rating? I assumed you could stop and charge the pint at speed the same as XR, and it would be the same stuff basically

@@redboyjan I assume the batteries are capable but Mario and a few others I asked were kind enough to explain that the BMS for the Pint gets hot quite fast and won't accept a charge past 3.5 amps. I'm planning to use a pint adapter on my XR charger which kicks out 3amps. I won't be making the mistake of using an XR hypercharger with that adapter, though.

Keep in mind that the brightness of LEDs degrades slowly over time, when used. (a.k.a. as "burn-in" when happening to unevenly used LED-based displays) The only meaningful comparison would be between two brand new boards. A new (as in: unused) pint and a new pint x. I haven't seen such comparison yet. But I would think they use the exact same parts?

@mario, My original pint seems to “forget” it’s range if I don’t charge all the way to 100% every few times. I sometimes get stranded 4 to 5 miles in with board showing red on the status bar while my app is telling I have 30% battery left. FM tech support didn’t help resolve the issue. Have you experience before?

It sounds like a worn out battery, and/or a battery with cells that have gone out of balance. It may be worth charging it all the way each time and allowing it time to balance after the charge light has turned green.

If you have stickers that you want on your rails and they are not huge put them on under your rail guards to protect them as well. You should not take up all the adhesive area with stickers. I also made custom Stormtrooper stickers for my XR. I forgot to remove the protective plastic on my Rail Guards and stuck them on said layer. Oops. Don't do that. I found a comfy foot position and traced my feet with a Silver sharpie and that helps foot fatigue a ton.

I’m 6’3 with a 13 size shoe. I bought the XR a couple of weeks ago. Took a hard fall and sold it on a whim and now I’m a bit remorseful. Then the new announcements came out and I’m like ok if I want one again I should get the GT? Then I start watching review etc on the Pint X and the more I watch, the more I think it might be for me? TBH, I don’t really like the look of the GT. It looks way too bulky and beefy for my taste. I’ll be riding on urban roads mostly. Any advice on what I should do?

If you buy a Pint X, you may end up wishing you had more power from a GT. If you get a GT, you may end up wishing you had the portability of the Pint. It's hard to say, but if I were that height and size, I'd generally aim for more power. Especially if you're concerned with nosediving.

All batteries don't like hyper charging. In fact charging damages the cells, hence they only have a certain number of charges in its life. Fast chargers do more damage than standard chargers. Use the regular one unless you absolutely need to charge fast

I'm not Mario, but I will say as someone who has nearly 10k miles on my XR, battery degradation is not an issue from a hypercharger. Use the standard charger at home overnight, use the hypercharger when you're on the go. If you have even 1/4 of my miles, it's never going to be an issue if you're treating it right. Hyperchargers will definitley degrade a battery over time, that's just pure science, but even the overextended users won't feel a massive degradation over the life of an entire battery unless there's an issue with the initial battery itself.

@@Sidkain this is true in many cases. But know of a couple who only use hypercharger and they don't get the same range now. Could be partly as they are old cells too now. But likely a factor its happening now, versus further down the road only charging with a regular charger

@@redboyjan Old cells is right 2.5 years later :P Unless you're someone like Javier "OnewheelWing" Starks, you're just not going to feel an issue with hypercharging over the span of a battery lifetime as a whole; so long as you're treating your battery properly when at home/through any winters. Again, no question that the science supports hypercharging being harder on a battery. Science is great, however, in real worl applicaiton of the data, the average user won't see a problem whatsoever if they're using a hypercharger on the go and a standard charger overnight at home. I'd even wager to say that the average user won't see a problem while using the hypercharger at home too :P

It is a fact that charging lithium cells faster will shorten their lifespan, and also reduce the maximum power they can produce. It’s is just a fact of the chemistry of these batteries. Forcing more energy into them in a shorter time will cause damage to the cells. But so does charging them, at all. You just have to decide on your own if the shortened lifespan and output is worth the faster charging time, for you. For me, I’m never really pressed for time when charging so I just run the slow charger. For you, it might be worth it to just fast charge all the time and replace the battery when needed. It’s really a personal choice. But there’s no debating that faster charging = more battery degradation.

Mario..I got a pint and really want more range..is the pintX really a substantial jump from the pint in terms of torque and stability? I get it’s faster and has more range but I’m kinda a bigger guy, and I like the small form factor but always wonder..would you do pintX, or XR from a pint.. if you just had a pint

Funny you ask...I'm actually working on a review for a Pint range mod that's pretty great. Super cheap too. It's the GT40 mod, and it's a higher performing VnR type. If I only had a Pint, and only wanted more range, I'd use this. The Pint X is a very different feeling board. In a good way mostly, but it's different. I'm not sure I'd currently buy a new XR though.

@@TheBoardGarage I’ve seen that GT40 too ..I don’t like riding with a fender so there’s that, also high end speed has become an issue as well.. part of me just was thinking XR bc I feel more stable going fast(15mph+) but don’t want to spend 2200 on a GT, well.. maybe once they are shipped and people post their reviews.. I love the idea of the GT, just the price and weight are a lot to deal with. Looking forward to your GT review when the time comes..can always trust you to give solid unbiased info on onewheel and PEV related stuff so thanks man!

Just watched one of your videos about right to repair….anyone ever take a pressure reading of the tire psi when they get their one wheel? Does future motion void their own warranty by overinflating their tire to combat loss of psi during storage or transport?

It depends on what you're trying to do with it. If you're looking for a commuting tool for work, then neither. If you're looking for speed, eskate. If you want to surf sidewalks, parks, and occasionally the street, Onewheel. They're so different, it's hard to peg one down over the other.

Someone on Reddit claimed they took apart an OG Pint and the port and/or wires from the port were rated for 3A. I think they found a part number to see the rating Though lots of people push 3.5A. Worth noting Chi's variable charger for the OG Pint goes up to 3.5A, not higher. Unless we confirm the parts/wires are different or FM comes out with a 6A charger, I wouldn't give it a shot.

The technical answer is that any faster charge rate will wear cells faster than a slower charge rate. However, the cells used in Onewheels are all within the spec of the available fast chargers and will not be harmed by a Hypercharger or equivalent spec fast charger. An XR battery has 2 cells in parallel, so each cell will be charged at 3 amps (on a 6a fast charger). The VTC6 and 30Q cells used in the XR at one point or another can take a 3 amp charge.

Had a major nose dive just 45 minutes ago, about, with my pint. Not sure whose fault it was. The board or me. Feel like maybe I leaned too far forward and the board wasn't ready for me even though I was going less than 7 miles per hour after slow down and coming up from intersection. My legs flew over my head and my hands slid forward over my flatlands gloves. Was vet embarrassed because so many people were around and some nice citizen pulled over to call out from my car to ask whether I was okay. Then my board had less than 6 percent battery left and my ankle was sprained so I limped home with the board. Why am I telling you all this? Probably because I gotta tell SOMEONE and I don't know if I should tell my wife especially since I'm going to be getting that GT beast sometime in the near future. Lok

I'm not positive, but it mkght have been a combo of having only 6% left and trying to accelerate too fast. That could've been too much for the low battery to handle properly

Under 30 percent take it easy no hard acellaration and turn ur light off , it strains more power from the motor , I try to turn my riding mode to redwood when under 30 percent to get more range and to keep me from straining the board too much i also turned off simple stop cause I heard after so many miles of having it engaged you can have some failures where the motor thinks you are simple stoping so it cuts out, idk so I turned mine off, it was weird at first but I like having reverse now .

I had a nose dive where I went down hard on concrete at like 12 mph my batter was 25 percent , and then again right as I was pulling in after limping home it was at like 6 percent and it shut off again from like 7 mph , i hid a bump while accelerateing kinda hard , wasnt in redwood was in pacific soo idk. That was a month ago but i literally just rode around kinda hard ( no hard accelerateing)on it hitting pushback and pushing pushback and noticed it was yellow lighting meaning less then I think 15 percent I didnt nose dive tho, I have not been accelerateing hard tho so idk maybe it was rider error

Mario how big would a Mobile battery pack/charger have to be to say charge a Onewheel Pint X up from Zero to 100%. Or would it take too long to charge with a mobile battery pack:charger (if they existed and you could carry it around) I always think about group rides and charging and why I never see one when they stop in the videos.

Have you seen my video on the portable charger I built? I did a couple videos, and an article. It charges my XR 1.25 times. With a slower charge rate, it could probably do a little more for the Pint X, but definitely more than a single full charge. Here are the videos. so you're paying $400 more for the gT to go 14 miles further than the XR both are very similar in terms of specs, not worth it unless its your first time getting a one wheel
