Than I wonder why Bodie likes the Vega so dauuum much? 🤔 I mean he really DOES! I was at that watch-cha-ma-call-it thing called Skate-Topia and I had just got my XR and seen some bright ass pink socks in the distance 😂 lol and thought 2 myself that can only be one person! And sure as shit it was Bodie !

Thank you for posting your videos!! I am very interested in the idea of swapping out the tire. I recently ordered an XR after trying a friends +. I didn't like the sensation @ higher speeds that Vega provided. That said, which tire would recommend between the 5.5 Burris and the Hoosier slick and why? Also, can you give me your thoughts on the Hoosier vs. the stock Vega. I will be using my OW for commuting to work and frequent 1/2 rides to my local downtown. Thanks in advance

Were those your bearings squeaking after the mud run? Maybe a video comparing some ceramic bearings to stock? Lol

Is it worth changing tire just to do it and not wait for the vega to wear out first. And if I did which would you choose for primarily street riding
@Grind671
@Grind671 6 лет назад
E p depends how you like to ride. The Vega is a good tire for many things. It just doesn't carve great and slips on sand,grass and mud. For pure street riding without tricks and without going in and out of different terrain - Hoosier 11x6-6 D30A. Otherwise Burris 11x5.5-6 QRC33 or TX33

I recently put on a Hoosier 5.5 slick...it seems here in Australia, the 6’s dont exist! Grrr...anyway, the tire is a lot carvier of course which i love, but the tire is VERY noticeably smaller than the Vega - overall height is like 3/4 of an inch?! You said the 6 was smaller too, but by how much compared to the Vega....i dont want to lose milage from a decreased rolling diameter.

Thanks for the review. I have a question on compound and understand the softness of the D10A gives the softness I want. Im concerned as I ride the beach which has allot of shells in spots. The Vega tire has been fine over the shells, so wondering if the D10A would be as puncture resistant or if I need to go up to the D20 or D30 ? Anyone try the D20 as a in-between ? Thanks!

I personally hate the feel of the Hoosier 6 after having it on for a week. maybe i'll get used to it? it feels way too loose to me.

Hi. Thanks very much for the video. I have just changed my stock Vega tyre for a Hoosier 5.5 d30a. It is scaring the life out of me how much more skittish it is when going straight - the imperfections in bad concrete (I live in the U.K. - the roads are awful) make the tyre quickly change direction. I think it's due to the hardness of the tyre. And also the tyre has a much rounder profile - so it feels like I am riding on much less tyre & therefore it feels less "stable" in a straight line. This is only my second day on the tyre. I only have

Tire preference is very personal. It does take time to get used to a thinner tire, so give yourself a little more time to adapt. It is also very dependent on the kind of terrain you normally like to ride. Popular tires right now with more stability than the 5.5, but more carvevthsn the Vega are: unilli 6($25), Hoosier 6 slick, burris 5.5/6 treaded. I'd probably recommend you go with the unilli 6 since it is closer to the Vega, cheap and only takes about 50 miles to break in. The burris 6 treaded is considered by a lot of people to be the best all around tire right now. Keep in mind that if you only ride in pavement a treaded tire is going to give a slight buzzing sound and vibration.

Hi Grind671. Thanks very much for your quick reply. I live in the U.K. & so are Hoosier - I already have 2 x 6" wide treaded tyres on order. I think (from watching this video) that I am going to change them, take your advice & go for the Hoosier 6 slick. The super soft rubber sounds lovely. I did like the Vega - but I am sure I knackered it by practicing really tight turns over & over when the tyre was really low pressure. But for me the d30a compound is so tough & changes everything. And the profile makes me feel I can't confidently go in a straight line on dodgy concrete. I am stressing because I feel the tyre makes the OW. I just want to find the right tyre for me. I do about 10 miles a day commuting & I love it. All my commuting is only fairly rubbish concrete. Which tyre do you think? Sorry, I really appreciate your time. All the best.

Hi Duncan Carr. I bought the same tire and had the same instability with the board oscillating quickly on a flat plane left and right. I weigh 150 lbs and had to inflate the tire to 20 psi to remedy the oscillation. At that point the board was very bouncy when hitting a bump, even with knees bent the rebound nearly ejected me several times. I wonder if the softer d 10a will fix this? Try increasing the tire pressure for stability. And if you get the softer compound, please let us know how it compares.

Hi Welder Wayne. I'm about the same weight as you. I ended up going the other way - I dropped the pressure down to 7 psi. For me this fixed the issues - it flattened out the tyre & I found it far more stable, and it made it forgiving when hitting bumps. I am really enjoying it at this low psi - I might try 5 psi soon (but no lower than that). You mention you had to inflate to 20 psi to fix the instability - but even that is comparatively low (Grind671 has a friend who has his at 50 psi). The D10a compound will surely be much softer - but why not have a go at a really low psi and see what you think? I personally want to have a tyre that is as puncture-proof as possible as the roads / paths here in the U.K. are terrible, so the d30a is probably better for me ... but I'd really like to try the softer compound.

Hi Duncan Carr. Thanks for the info. I tried lowering the psi and things got real squirrely, maybe its the surface. I ride on smooth asphalt and smooth concrete sidewalks. Either way it gets sketchy unless filled to at least 20psi. So now I'm wondering if I should change to the same tire in a D10A. Or has anyone had experience with the treaded FlightFins Hoosier 6.0 tire? If the compound is a D10A I might go that route...

I was looking at a Burris treaded because I do like to go off-road at times. I do love to carve a lot on street but would like something soft on the knees. What would you suggest?
@Grind671

A lot of people like the treaded burris 6. You'll most likely adapt to whatever tire you get and like it. They're all different and fun!

Winner Hoosier 6" D30A? I thought you liked the D10A better?

Olivier Cornu I made a mistake at the end. It's D10A

Grind671 Ahhhhhhhh, I think I'm finally working out what might be happening. When you're perched upon a single wheel, it seems to me that tyre pretty much defines the experience. The roundness, pressure, hardness of the rubber compound - probably has the largest impact on how the OW feels. The D30A is hard. I remember the Vega being really soft. You liked the D10A better - surely that is much closer to the Vega? I really appreciate your time answering - I'm a novice with only 6 weeks / 600 miles experience - and I am desperately trying to understand the tyre setup. Many thanks.

Have you tried a treated tire?

Yep. I ride a Burris 11x5.5-6 TX33. I've tried the Hoosier 11x6.5-6 D30A and 11x5.5-6 D30A.

What’s the best overall tire for street and dirt ?
@Grind671
@Grind671 6 лет назад
General HowTo it's really personal preference. Right now the Hoosier slick 11x6.0-6 d30a is probably the most popular tire and does well on street and dirt

I can’t imagine using a slick on a trail. Interesting. What about the threaded tire. What are the downfalls. Kicking up rocks ?
@Grind671
@Grind671 6 лет назад
General HowTo there are dirt slicks (d30a is for dirt compound) and they do very well on dirt trails. The treaded tires make more noise on pavement and vibrate from the grooves

Grind671 I’m thinking of changing my stock tire in my XR but I do like my Vega. I don’t want to get another tire and regret it.
