The Last of Us on RPCS3!! Just joking. Couldn't resist. Maybe some PS3 and lower TDP PS2? Most emulation has been great for a while now on these. The main variable now is efficiency / battery life.
I'm in love!! I have a steam deck, I have the one gx1 pro, but the 8.2 inch screen on this thing looks utterly amazing to my tired old eyes! The detachable controllers and snap on keyboard is just so premium. I really love what I'm seeing... I really might have to pre order this thing instead of being frugal and waiting for one to hit the used market. Great video!
Hopefully the snap on keyboard is stronger than the current OneXPlayer's since that one will randomly disconnect if you try to use it mobile. If they emulate the Surface's strength then it will be a perfect machine. I love having a 8.2" screen and while mine is being repaired, I have nothing bad to say (crap happens with electronics and they are working to resolve the issue as quick as possible) I have a Steam Deck coming in and I hope the OxP didn't spoil me too much with the larger screen and heft of the unit
Hey Daniel, considering photo/video editing and music production, you think this handheld should get me through until I get the mini pc I'm eyeballing (Minisforum NUCXI7)? Or shall I go for the mini pc straight away? I can only afford one for now, and the second will follow later on. I'm leaning more towards this handheld as it has everything you would need to run a full-on powerful pc on a single device without a single cord.
@@ahmedelboghdadi5328 if I had to choose one I would get the minis forum.. but the ryzen hx6900 or whatever it's called. As a former web designer and video editor however I wouldn't mess with mini pcs or handhelds.. pick up a good used laptop with an i7, 16 gigs of ram and a gtx 1650 or higher for around 400 bucks. I've tried to be cute editing on niche devices, it was just an expensive way to not be as productive. Save the handhelds and mini pcs for games and cool stuff!
Bigger form factor? Dude, its the same size as the original onexplayer! Where have you been? Those of us who own the original oxps were expecting a higher resolution screen with this one. But no, its the exact same resolution and size as the screen we currently have.
One of the best 2 in 1 designs in the market, also battery is relatively big compared to similar devices. I just hope they would add an accessible TDP sharing profiles between CPU and iGPU, plus overclocking abilities for each.
I absolutely loved this video. I honestly would have liked to see how it works as a portable laptop with its keyboard attached, or Bluetooth keyboard connected. The fact that it can potentially be a handheld/laptop/desktop makes it absolutely unique and worth looking into in the future. I hope more companies go through this modular route as technology advances.
@@gospelofrye6881 no I’m not , I prefer it like the switch OLED screen zero bezels looks way better ( I’m in no means saying that switch is a better device)
Dam I know right kind of annoyed there still isn't a proper steam deck competitor once that happens I would assume the iteration of thr SD will be in it'd 2nd revision hopefully soon since all these other companies seam to be making new one each month where the hell are they getting all the money to make new devices so quickly without having a store to sell games on . The Steam Deck will make much more money for valve over time through steam store .
@@sergestar4536 These devices are sold at a modest but positive margin, by companies that have worked out a new way to manage inventory - crowdsourcing as pre-orders. Instead of making 100,000 units and warehousing them, they crowdsource a minimum production run and then bump up their run as backers join in. At the IGG price of $899 the 16/512 OP2 is absolutely a Steam Deck competitor. It's $250 more than the equivalent Steam Deck and has easily $250 worth of "extras" - true open platform, more ports, comes with Windows, bigger and better display, etc etc. The $399 Steam Deck is not in this class of PC in terms of power. If Valve wasn't subsidising the cost of the Deck, its ungainly ergonomics, insane width (wider than my Surface Pro!), and 1280x800 display would put it at the bottom of the pile come end of Q1 2023.
I have the steam deck im all for budget but dang i love how companies are making hand helds optional much more than last year’s availability, great time to be alive c:
I just got a job and I already got money for this but I realized every time after I got home from work I'm already tired and instead of playing videogames I just go to bed and sleep it made me realize that even after I have the money for it you don't really have much time to play videogames and it just don't feel the same anymore when I was a kid. Though I still love watching you videos❤
It looks awesome but I already have two handhelds. I think this thing should be classified as gaming tablet. I love the shape and colour scheme. Can't wait for another leap in performance.
@@fodlanhalvorsen No... But you're still asking the wrong question. The only thing that matters is if the fans do a good job of keeping the cpu and the gpu cool enough to prevent overheating and to play for a few hours. And unfortunately, to play the latest games on a hanheld will require require serious cooling and high-speed fans. So get used to noisy fans. Its f-ing unavoidable. And I own a onexplayer a couple of Aya neos, and a steam deck, btw.
@@percyvolnar8010 No, you're on an entirely different argument. If you didn't notice, OP asked about fan noise. They explicitly didn't ask about performance. They explicitly didn't ask whether or not headphones would drain the sound. They didn't say they expected quiet fans. They asked for a comparison. Learn to read.
@@fodlanhalvorsen No, I improved the question, actually. Fan noise is inescapable with PC handhelds and is therefore a moot question. And if you are asking about fans, it should be weather the fans cool the GPU and CPU accurately. Thats what matters most! So, with that said... wear headphones if all you care about is fan noise.
RDNA 3 may be just what you need. I'm enjoying the 6800u devices but it is true that performance is around 1.5x the Deck. Once we see 2x the Deck or more i think that will be something game changing
@@pauldeshield I change the game by rebooting , I will wait for RDNA 4 , I have seen the specs and it’s truly revolutionary … it can display AR using a projector beam from the rgb lights on your system up to 50 ft so far!

it's funny to think that but I remember 10 years ago looking at 5" windows tablets running on trash intel hardware that were over $1k, so that's like $1300 today
Honestly for me the biggest upgrade I would have liked from this unit on my onexplayer mini pro 6800U is the inclusion of the SD card slot and better speakers. Feel a little jipped out of that. not to mention the price is nearly identical to the early bird special they had with that unit. That kind of marketing is pretty annoying and gives me less confidence to bother with any of these units if they're just going to come out with a far better version shortly after at nearly the same price. If they offered some kind of trade up program that would be cool but I doubt that.
Yeah but you have your Mini Pro now, right? How long have you had it? You can pay for a OXP2 today but you won't get it until March next year... and that's assuming they have no problems with production or shipping (which they usually don't).
@@gospelofrye6881 yeah I guess that's true. When I was able to pre-order the mini pro, it only took a month later to get. But that kind of waiting time for essentially the same thing with a bigger screen would be kind of annoying. Still that microsd slot is more valuable to me than the removable controllers lol
So, I bought the original OneXplayer, the i7-1165g7. I will not touch another OneXplayer. Their quality control is awful. Mine died, I had to send it back, and then I got one with a screen that had a pressure mark on it. I will say though, the big screen is great and a joy to look at.
I have the same 1165 xplayer. A launch model. It's been nothing but fantastic since the day it arrived. No idea what problems you had but the do not represent all of their handhelds.
Thank you for comparing the screen size to the steam deck. I would really like to see all of the new hand held retro systems compared to the size of the steam deck.
Announced sure, but you will be waiting 6, 12, 18 months to get your hands on? They might cost a few hundred more. I do wonder though, where's a community to sub to, so one can get these announcements early enough to get the cheapest early adopter price?
I wonder if they still buried the nvme slot. I always hated the upgradability of OXP devices because unlike Ayaneo and GPD, OXP devices have the nvme slot deep into the system.
My friend got the 6800u mini he swapped in a 2tb and said it was easy so I don't think it's as bad as the original 8.4inch oxp which I had and that was a nightmare.
@@altair3090 dell products are the worst ive ever used in their specific use cases, never in my life seen such bad design. Alienware are some of the worst, next to MSI laptops. The first good looking console from this company, I still think it could mature a little, the branding removed and the bezel taken care of, but definitely a step up. Not regretting my Ayaneo 2 yet!
I like the bigger screen on this device but it doesn’t look anywhere near as good as the screen looks on videos of the Aya Neo 2. Is it even better in real life?
@@jonflowers1370 The screen is truly unbelievable in real life, I cannot tell that it isn't an OLED and I have an $10,000 83" LG C2 Evo OLED in my living room!
I'm glad there is a higher end device on the market for people who have the money and want to get more power. For awhile these devices were over $1000 with mid range laptop specs.
As someone who's currently only playing on a Switch, this could possibly be my next "console." I don't want to pre-order, I'll wait until it actually comes out. I would have loved it more if the connector was located under instead of on top. And then, obviously, an official dock just to make it more convenient.
Personal wishlist for the best future handheld: • 1080p or 1440p OLED screen with VRR support • Native resolution high settings capable hardware • PlayStation analog layout
With this type of handheld support can be a problem. Even what happen if one the joy-con type break, but no place to replace them or buy them. Over all, if company want to sell there handheld, and be worth it. They need a US replace/repair center. But if people got money to burn be my guest.
My biggest gripe about all these handhelds is that they keep adding screens with high resolutions. They should stick to 1080p to either save on power or allow higher graphics settings and still have decent performance. I have big hopes for the AYN Loki Max because it's a decent size screen while being 1080p.
@@sinephase Yes, but also Lord Gaben is rich and pays for half (okay maybe 30%?) of your Steam Deck. The 16GB/512 deck (the OXP2's lowest spec) is $649... vs $899 here. I think the performance plus being a true open platform makes it easy to justify the extra $250. (The MSRP is a bit harder, but have you seen how much Steam Decks are being sold for by scalpers?!)
@@gospelofrye6881 the only people buying steam decks from scalpers are idiots. There's no wait list anymore it's order and ship in < 2 weeks. I don't think a ~$300 increase is worth the what, 20% increase? Especially when games will look worse running at lower resolutions because it's not powerful enough to run them at 1600p.
@@inuyasha331 The way Valve has bewitched a certain kind of gamer into thinking the Steam Deck is some kind of super-device simply by subsidising the cost... is really weird. It will be interesting to see where they are at this time next year with 7000-series handhelds hitting the crowdfunders.
@@gospelofrye6881 it happens with consoles as well because it boosts game sales. It's a luxury they have and they'd be stupid not to take advantage of it if it's a net positive for the company. I also find it weird in the case of Steam Deck that anyone would buy a scalped one when I've never seen them out of stock on the steam store.
I would love to get one but by time I saved up enough money to get it like three more revisions will have come out. Hospitals are expensive when you have a chronic autoimmune disorder
I think that one of the greatest uses of these 6800u handhelds, is to replace the PC home desktop. Use USB 4.0 to output the video streaming on the OLED monitor. Connect with HDMI plus USB hud linked to external SSD, keyword, and mouse. This solution allows the user brings out their home desktop from their home. Even bringing the handheld to the office as a working station, just like the "work from home" style work in the office. With this view, two USB 4.0 is required, one for the power and one for the USB hub.
Every couple weeks this things are getting better and better, I wonder what does nintendo have to offer in the next console if they ever do one or they lost the game of handhelds once and for all.
Bruh, Pokémon alone could carry any shit console Nintendo decides to put out there. Nintendo consoles have never been on the cutting edge, there were always more powerful consoles that did things better, but Nintendo still pushed on. There are people out there that have quite literally on bought the Nintendo console to play pokémon and nothing else on it. With fans like that, unless they really didn't want to make a new console, there's no reason for them not to.
@@soldierofchaos8552 yeah. I mean at some point they do need to release a next Switch or whatever. But they've always depended on their IPs and own identity to survive. They offer something different and even having less capable hardware isn't really affecting them.
@@danh2716 I too have a Razer Kishi for an old Android phone and I have a Backbone for my iPhone, most of these handhelds have screens either smaller or only slightly larger than common phones, so for me, they don't make a lot of sense, but a device with an 8" screen does.
Interesting. I think most of the Windows handhelds would do what I want (play Mr Driller Dreamcast and Baku Baku animal Saturn, but could be connected to a external monitor to be used as a desktop for MS Office type stuff). The fact that you can remove the pads is nice as it wouldn't be so odd if I turned up with one of these at a lecture and then had to hook it up to show a powerpoint presentation.
The price isn’t bad if you compare it to an iPad Pro, or a surface device. This device is basically a high end tablet with controllers slapped on, and for $899 I think it’s fine (it’s a bit faster than an m1 iPad so the price is fine imo), the processor is a bit faster than my m1 iPad Pro, and a lot faster than intels igpus. Considering you can use this to draw since it has pressure sensitivity, that is another plus.
@@ricksmith4840 the indegogo/early bird price is fine, but the retail price is a bit high for me imo, they could have put a lower storage option like the base iPad Pro.
Personally, I think it needs the decks trackpads. They're so accurate for shooters. Twin stick shooters and fighting games are amazing on the trackpads. As well as several other genres. Not to mention all the other functionality they add to the system. I'd Hate to go back. Also, the deck's button placement is perfect. Other than that though, this system looks awesome. I hope it succeeds, and I'm also glad the deck has real competition.
Yes, it's the best, I love it. Much better than the Steam Deck without Windows and the small and bad display. And I have both. I love my OnexPlayer with 8,4 inch. Control in Windows is great because the analogue sticks work as a mouse. It's perfect. The most important think: Xbox Game Pass works perfect native!
Waiting on rdna 3 refresh. Instead bought an egpu for my onexplayer intel i7 first model with xe graphics. I'm glad I went thr egpu route to hold off until rdna 3. Enjoying the extra graphic boost.
This is the first handheld that looks like it can outperform the Steam Deck while also providing the same comfortable form factor! I'm just worried about those detachable controllers. The Switch has always felt flimsy because the controllers wiggle, does this device improve on this?
to be fair, the steam deck is made to be lower power and competitive for price, so "beating" it isn't so hard but beating its price and competing with Valve is going to be impossible for these small companies
@@sinephase I wasn't putting down the Steam Deck in my comment. All these companies are jumping on the Steam Deck bandwagon and it seems to me they all sacrifice something in their design while the Steam Deck has it all. With these new AMD igpu chips you can easily get medium to high settings after dropping resolution in titles that Steam Deck plays on low. Since it will be awhile until we get a "Steam Deck Pro", I for one am willing to pay more for the added performance on top of a design that can rival Steam Deck. The only thing that worries me with this unit is my aforementioned "flimsy" feel of Switch controllers.
@@melxb I love the overall design and dark color of the A1, but the tech on this one sure feels more premium considering the detachable controllers and snap-on keyboard. I'm now thinking either this or the Minisforum NUCXI7 mini pc. I need both, but can only start with one for now. I'm thinking a handheld like this should get me through considering photo/video editing and music production as well until the mini pc powerhouse comes in.
I love the idea of these handhelds but I just cannot justify one when you could get a far more powerful laptop for less money that would work a lot better
IT seems strange to me all these new units coming out here at the end of the year. Dragon Range and Phoenix APUs are around the corner. They are wha I have been waiting for in the handhelds. I am hoping Valve starts talking about the deck 2. The OS an repairibility is killer good.
They talked about the next deck, but they said screen and battery improvements, only. They want to hold or be near those price points (my speculation) . They aren't going to upgrade the APU for a while (see Verge interview).
With touchscreen here we have a pretty universal device for gaming/work/content consumption with focus on performance and portability, albeit bulky, but worth it from my point of view.... Can a dream come true? Man, can we have a SBS video with all the alternatives and stream deck please? Thanks for your reviews!
great video as always! One thing i would like to see is *games running at full 1600p resolution.* I know performance will suffer, but it would be nice to see just how much the screen can be utilized in modern games. I have the OXP 1s and when you find a game that runs at 2560x1600 it's an *unmatched experience.*
@@noleftturnunstoned would be nice to see because that's the native resolution. Plus there are many slightly older games that can run at 1600p. I have the original OXP which is much less powerful and you'd be surprised how many games can run at 1600p. The video feels kinda incomplete when you ignore the native resolution, or at least show that it's bad without completely skipping it.
I picked up the first whilst waiting for the SD and they are respectable handheld. I would probably wait for the 3rd version to come out before I jump back in. I mainly use my oxp as a portable PC when I'm travelling.
Detachable controllers on a more powerful handheld PC? Yup, definitely a nice one-to-one competitor to the upcoming Switch Pro. Also having an extra USB-A port & USB-C 4.0 port are a big yes.
AMD's low power stuff is just excellent! It'll be interesting to see what intel's like in comparison but I don't see them competing very well in graphics
The stick caps look tiny. I would prefer larger sticks, like the Steam Deck, instead of Switch sized sticks. I also expect Hall effect sticks and triggers on higher priced handhelds like this.
Yep for $1,000 it should have the best sticks and buttons possible. And where are the trackpads?? These companies trying to steer us away from trackpads pisses me off. Theyre super accurate for Shooters and they're super useful for many other genres and other things, if you just use your imagination a bit. And if you use them, they also take wear and tear off of your thumb sticks. Its just like Xbox Still trying to steer us away from gyro, just to save a few bucks. it's ridiculous.
For these handheld reviews, I'd love to know what kind of battery life you can get if you put it into Windows low power mode and low brightness, just in case you want to use it for web browsing and media consumption.
I'm with you, I love my onexplayer 5800U 8.4" screen I'm 54 y/old and find my eyes need that extra size these days. I have one gripe with my 5800U version, the small analogues sticks I don't like them and I always wonder if they will suffer drift in time, Does this device have the small, none HAL sticks still? It does look like it.
That display comparison with the Steam Deck is why I really, really want the next gen Deck to reduce those massive bezels! The OneX 2 looks really neat - I really ought to start saving up so I can get one of these higher end handheld PCs at some point, I'm especially going to want one once SteamOS is ready for them. That's going to be a pretty killer combination, I'm sure! And in the meantime I'm just glad that enough people have enough money to keep this industry going lol, so they'll still be around when I can join in on the fun in a few years 😅
This one looks nice, but the launch of the 7000 series APUs is right around the corner. I think I’ll see what those can do before making a purchasing decision.
+dragonacc1 Given what we saw with the recent RDNA 3 desktop GPUs launch, I don't think the jump from RDNA 2 to RDNA 3 will be as impressive as the jump we saw from RDNA 1 to RDNA 2 in terms of performance. It might only be great in terms of battery life. We'll see.
Hi ETA PRIME, thanks for the video as always. I would like to see how think it is in the center, With the controller, what is the weight comparing to Steam deck. And it would be great to see 3060 card on an external GPU performance comparison. Thanks.
