At approximately 8:20 pm Troop G received a call of a shooting suspect traveling through Troop G west on I-30. Myself, Sgt. Jones, and TFC. Broughton responded as we were all in Miller County. As we received information on the suspects location, I got off I-30 at exit 2 about the same time as the suspect. As I crossed the interstate, I noticed the suspect’s vehicle sitting at Trinity Church just north of I-30. As I turned in a city street near the suspect’s vehicle, he pulled out and headed back to I-30. I followed in behind him as he got back onto I-30 and was now traveling east. I was notified by another officer on our frequency that OnStar was going to turn the truck off.
We prepared for a felony stop as the truck slowed near the 4-mile maker. Sgt. Jones called the suspect out with the PA, me and TFC. Broughton covered the suspect and vehicle until he was called back to me and placed into custody. We then went and cleared the truck and found no other occupants. TAPD had also sent three units to assist, and they were also providing cover. I secured a pistol that was loaded and sitting on the console. The suspect, Omar Penaromero was taken into custody without incident. TFC. Broughton transported the suspect to Little Rock as Sgt. JD Jones escorted the suspects truck at the request of LRPD.
