Yeah, I think they are limited a bit with their equipment. Those SUVs that most of the drive aren’t going to keep up in tight turns and acceleration to many of the low slung cars like Chargers and even small Toyotas and such. After all the horsepower of the 60s, most civilian autos didn’t have much oomph from the factory for many years, unless it was a Camaro, Mustang, Corvette or something like that, and even then you might have a 175 HP 350 cube V8. Not until the 1990s did American cars start getting into the 300 HP range, and on into the 2000s with the 500 HP cars that you can get now with Challengers, Chargers, Mustangs and so on. So patrol cruisers didn’t have much to test them, but it seems like we are seeing the revival of the hot pursuit, at least it seems that way to me. Because before all this, you had to get a car and have someone or yourself spend a weekend throwing in a cam or some headers, a better throttle body or carb, tune up the shocks and brakes….but you can get them from the factory now….but that’s a lot of money to spend to try and run from the police lol. The ASP chargers appear to top out around 153 or so, and those Challengers can get up 180 on the Hellcat I think. But the cruisers don’t have much acceleration.
