Speaking of men in their 50s. When I visited Puerto Rico ,I went free diving with a local scuba diving instructor, the man was in his early 50's, a grey beard ,wrinkles around the eyes...yet he was built like Poseidon. Not hulking like body builder fanatics, I mean covered in healthy natural muscle. Since he swims each day, doing free diving , his body and lungs allow him to remain submerged ,swimming amongst the coral for 2 minutes on end. This man, clearly in his fifties could honestly wrestle and drown a tiger shark if need be. So Joel being in his fifties doing what he does in game, is entirely plausible.
What's funny is that (as she came from a rich privileged household) she has more in common with Fred than Velma. Then again, I've come to expect projection from these rodents....I mean people.
@@jgmaurer31 Isn't that ironic you are right the money looking for something rave about when they have had a much easier life than they project. Kind of like a kid living in the suburbs who claims they are from skid row.
I felt bad for Mauler. He is "the Long". Remember he needs at least 8 hours to stretch out completely and a minimum of an hour just to warm up. Stopping him at 30 seconds must have been crushingly painful.
@BL OMEGALUL OW SEED What is your groupthinking here about if not an echo chamber? You aren't above it, you are doing it right now. You, who has grouped everyone else together and completely lacking is self-awareness as he/she does so. you don't like the show, that's okay but if anyone else here doesn't like the show, well that's just an echo chamber?
You mean coming together and keeping it alive and actually making it success more like. It is already well known by now that execs are ordering cheap woke garbage because it's easy to make and gets hate watch views. So, in perfect alignment with ironic nature of the Universe, it is people like Critical Drinker and co. who are some of the main culprits and ones to blame for the current state of Hollywood.
Rags became a real buzz kill around 2:49:15 when Little platoon was only talking about a trailer. Like the harry Potter movies that trailer for the pus n boots has all over the TV for months!! NOT COOL at all. Resident Evil 4 really doesn't embody the spirit of resident evil, its a rather bland action game in the art style of tomb raider. I do like actions games, but you buy a resident evil game you kind of expect something closer to RE2 rather than RE4. You can watch "wolf in VR" full playthrough of it in VR and get an idea of what the "new" version his episode style on his playthroughs are very good.
Yeah. He's the reason I stopped watching EFAP. He doesn't know how to be civil in a discussion sometimes and comes across like a pretentious twat. I've never heard him disagree with Mauler once. It just parrots him constantly.
Ironically this is probably why “not shaggy” doesn’t do drugs in this universe! Velma turned him down so much he OD’d to obtain a fantasy where he was wanted!
Re-watch the first Scooby show. Everyone worked together, nobody had any real foibles beyond Shaggy and Scooby being scared, Velma losing her glasses and Daphne being a little clumsy. Even the Scooby movies changed the characters, making Fred overbearing and arrogant, Velma bitter because Fred took credit for her ideas, Daphne being a bit vapid and vain, etc.
@@jonbaxter2254 I agree - fun movies. But even then, the writers were working out their high school issues on the 'popular' kids Fred and Daphne. Velma turns the resentment up to 11.
@@jmstater The movies were the canary in the coal mine. Not only did it start the unnecessary breakdown of Fred/Daphne and uplifting of Shaggy/Velma, but the writers admitted they tried to make Velma gay (who at that point in the series, was very much straight). Sadly, hindsight is 20/20 :(
The TEAM was what made it so good. Every character had their quirks, but also they're short-comings. Okay, Shaggy and Scooby are just scaredy cats and hungry and easily fooled, and we're supposed to laugh at them. But they are still a good friend to the rest of the team, refuse to leave anyone/each other behind and when push comes to shove they stick around. Velma is the smarts, but she cannot see without her glasses. Fred builds and sets the traps and is a leader, but he sometimes gets ahead of himself and things don't go according to plan. Daphne is a level-headed girl, but she can be clumsy. Everyone needed everyone else to keep it all in check. It was never about being the most awesome among the group and putting each other down just because you don't feel validated enough. And best of all, every episode had a lesson. For kids. Do not lie, learn to spot a liar, know who your true friends are, do not take people at their word, do not let your anger get the better of you, don't be impulsive, or greedy. The new show is just "I'm awesome, everyone else sucks, even though I'm the most vile, vapid human Velma. Because I'm the smartest and I am entitled to every good thing in the universe."
I can't even get past Force Awakens anymore. Maybe the EU spoiled me but every time I think about how the Jedi Order is dead again when this trilogy starts makes my blood boil.
People openly laughed at that scene. Laughing at the movie. I will never pay to see another movie in the theater. There are other ways. 🏴☠️ I will never be that disappointed again.

30:14 I’m a white woman and I can perfectly relate to main characters in most of the anime I watch. A good portion of which have Japanese male protagonists. It’s like you relate to the personality traits rather than just the physical.
Velma is actually a miracle series; it's managed to unite diverse groups of people in absolute hatred for it. This series may inadvertently bring about peace in the Culture Wars. 🙃
Your username always makes me laugh. Unfortunately (or fortunately if you just enjoy the hate-watch reviews) it sounds like this abomination is going to get another season. I say it's unfortunate because even if it's not widely popular, there are still young people/kids watching and getting influenced by it. And I am sure that's their main goal, pushing their woke religion on others.
One the best roster so far. The balance between Az/Gary 's energy and the bright and platonic insight from Platoon/Disparu is a must have. In the middle, Mauler and Rags were perfect (Rags was on fire that evening!) and the nice final feminine touch with Melonie was just something needed. Great one Drinker, you might have just found the perfect formula. Highly fun and entertaining!
@@Morrowind4732 Yeah that's what I figured but wasn't sure. Rags definitely sounds different, maybe even younger but DW always reminded me if Jeremy from the Quartering with the way his voice sounds
@@nhagan001 Yeah, Wolf rarely held punches and gave it to you raw on movies, shows and political and current events. I got a feeling he fell to youtube's ban wave during the identity politic rise that he often called out. Him, Voltaire (from Canada) and the guy who streamed with Halo playing in the background were solid channels.
Az and Melonie are spot on. I would rather spend 5 hours watching the Game edited into a movie than watch this series. Pedro is NOT a man like the character of Joel is. They took a stoic, thoughtfully dangerous, hardcore man and made him lesser and reactionary instead of taking charge. In the game, Tess and Joel would show a unified front in the company of others and then would argue about decisions when they were alone. They would back each others play whether they agreed or not, then fight about it when they survived. Joel was scary because he was not unhinged. He was methodical and thoughtful in his violence. Which is much scarier than some unhinged monster.
Rags comes back again, and cant even stop himself from acting like others cant have an opinion (maybe melonie just wants joel to be more like the game, and there is nothing wrong with that) and being a hypocrite (suddenly tell is better than show just because...reasons) This show is always better without Rags
Mindy Kaling actually did that "She's secretly a right winger" joke on an episode of Sunny in Philly a few years ago. It was when the guy who played Dennis was doing another show so people thought he would be gone for the new season of Sunny. So the first episode of the season started with Mindy Kaling being, what we were led to believe, the person who would be Dennis's replacement who was trying to take the bar (meaning the show) in this new progressive direction. The joke was that it quickly became obvious that she was using the SJW angle for her own profit. It is a testament to Always Sunny in Philadelphia that it is such a good show it made Mindy Kaling tolerable for a few minutes.
Rags is entertaining and a very logical dude I think, and i even agreed with him and Mauler here about initial impressions, but damn son, not all discussions need to be debates
There's less Europeans every day, we have to stick together or there will be none of us left and then nobody will be able to tell Italians they don't count
The last 12 months of releases have been a masterclass in disasterous creation, writing and marketing. Where previously we had individual episodes on decent series that were badly/lazily written, now we have entire series and franchises that are burning to the ground.
My late grandmother's favorite show of all time was Scooby-Doo. This abomination is so utterly atrocious that I'm genuinely glad she isn't alive anymore because it might have actually killer her and that's not the way she'd have wanted to go out.
Nothing passive about it. When Rags is quiet, calm and very direct with his questions, he is not happy with someone. Watch the Twin Perfect debate on EFAP, that's Rags full bore pissed.
@@RealityPalooza which is why I referenced the Twin Perfect debate. I probably should have rephrased my comment as "There is nothing passive about it, because he is obviously annoyed with Melanie's arguments" You are right, full bore pissed Rags pulls no punches and he was clearly pulling them here.
@@mrq1 Rags wasn’t pulling back here. This is Rags’ old, tired, disingenuous debating “strategy” he pulls when someone disagrees with his always “reasoned” and “correct” views. But Luckily he wasn’t able to pull it off because Drinker kept the conversation flowing. I’ve seen this SO MANY times! Rags was trying to act all calm and cool, peppering Melanie with condescending questions to try and have her create rope to hang herself with at the end. However, the other end of the rope is usually tied to Rag’s Strawman characterization of the other person’s answers. That’s why sometimes it’s annoying and disingenuous when Rags pull these antics. Look at the Wonder Woman & WW1984 Watch Party on EFAP and how he tried to make Az look like an Ignorant Bigot by Az just saying that it doesn’t make sense and it wasn’t explained why for some reason Pedro Pascal’s Character had a biological Son who happened to be Asian. I haven’t seen WW1984 myself, so hearing about Pedro’s Character’s Son, it would sound strange to me too! Strange like how two Women can Procreate and produce a Daughter named America Chavez. But hey, I guess I’m not as a good person as Rags because he “doesn’t see in Colors”; as he told Az.🤷♂️
About ten years ago, Jonah Hill made this animated Fox show called Allan Gregory that was supposed to be kind of a parody of teenage shows. It was so bad that it was immediately canceled and Jonah Hill tried to play it off as "It was supposed to be that bad, that was the point! You just didn't get it!!"
I won't be watching The Last of Us because I can't believe, after all these years, people supposedly still want to see *more* shows about zombies. Holy fuck am I sick of zombie shows.
People still want superhero movies and how long has that been going on for? If there is anything to be sick of these days is superhero movies. Everyone and their mother is making a superhero movie. Yet "The Boys" is a rather enjoyable breath of fresh air in that pile of shit, just like the last of us (game) was back in 2013. Mostly because neither of them are your typical superhero/zombie gigs. TLOU game had very little to do with the "zombies", it was more about the bond and journey. If this show manages to come close to what the game did, than the "zombies" will have very little to do with anything.
@@PFbigfan447 Interesting, maybe I should check out TLOU after all. I have only 5 episodes left of The Walking Dead but I can't bring myself to finish it because this last season has gotten so bogged down in fighting hoards of zombies. Like good god, we're all bored to death of 30 minute battle scenes of killing zombies (lazy writing). But TWD has been great these last few seasons when it actually focused on human stories. Overall I agree that The Boys was pretty enjoyable, though sometimes I think it got a bit bogged down in miserable scenes of Super-Captain-America-Man being an evil psychopath. That aspect got to depressing me after a while. But that aside, looking forward to season 4.
The Harry Potter books and films don't, in my mind, earn all their accolades. But I admire Rowling for standing on principle. More should learn from her example.
For non gamers, TLOU has done a good job adapting the game so far, as a gamer that has played it like 8+ times of course I liked it, but I know the story by heart so the show didn't blew me away you know.
Seasons over. MELANIE AND AZ were right. Rags and Mauler hung onto to this series while saying in every episode "just wait untill the next epsiode". I heard that out of every reaction to every episode. Arguing a potential future and not arguing what is in front of you. Sounds like Rags and Mauler were hating on the fact that Melanie and AZ wanted Joel to stay true to his character portrayal. Isn't that the point we all have been making about everything lately. Stop changing people to fit the message.
The important bit for me about Tess and Joel is, that she is the only connection he has left in this "community" they live in. The game portrays it in a subtle way so it's clear to the viewer/gamer that there was something going on, possibly romantic but it's now complicated. And you can immediately imagine how things might be very complicated in such a setting, with all the violence going on and the military etc. It's not the place to settle down, enjoy a relationship and have kids :D But back to the point, Tess's death means Joel has nothing left. Nothing holding him back, the only way forward is out of the city and with Ellie. It's perfectly done, and there is basically nothing the TV show can add or improve, because the game is already so cinematic.
Hearing that guy say, "Oh so just because the game did this, the show has to do the same?" was so annoying lol. The others explained their reasoning well, but also.. bro... Have you not been paying attention to the shows based on games/books that decide to "go their own way"? They're all mainly shite.
To be fair She-Hulk was edited down because the original cuts had the WOKE dialed all the way up to where it was unwatchable. So saying it isn't as bad as Velma is a half truth.
I think modern movie makers/story tellers are iconoclastic in a corporate sense. Their over all goal is to destroy the most popular characters and stories from the past and then to replace those stories/characters with images of themselves. There is certain term for a certain fascistic mode of governance that uses this methodology directly that starts with a "C." I think you know what it is.
any way we can get time stamps by topic for these streams if possible? i am really curious to the LoU impressions but ran out of time looking for that section of the stream
Hearing the Longman's short opinion at 2x speed is hilarious Also my sister, who is more into progressive stuff pre-order Hogwarts Legacy cause she just wants to be a wizard grillin'
After J.K Rolling got attacked by gay socialists. I hear that the Avada Kedavra attack is going to be replaced with " You're a racists" which will instantly kill people by dropping their social credit score to zero.( As it is the modern day equivalent of a killing curse) - This is a joke.
That discussion on Hogwarts Legacy is honestly the most fun I've had listening to Open Bar. I'm a diehard Potterhead, so it was really fun. Edit: this is one of the best open bar episodes. Great insights, great rants, great discussions.
There needs to be a Fallout show where they embrace the insanity of its style...trapped in the 50s aesthetic, off the wall characters in a bleak world with stereotypical aliens, robots, supermutants, people like no bark and Moira, cheery billboards and vault boy iconography, vampires, regulators, a gang of Elvis impersonators, the tunnel snakes...all of that weird shit..
That staircase thing is in the books. Harry & Ron try to go find Hermione in her dorm & the alert flips out when they go up a couple stairs. Then Hermione lectures them about it
A friend told me "Velma is a EXAMPLE, of everything that modern society need to fix and correct for future generations. Also excellent for parenting, for explain to children everything that is wrong in the current society, and they should avoid or improve when they grow up" she blew my mind...
Because of how they fucked Joel over in the 2nd game and the general trend in hollywood, I could easily see these changes being purposeful for late in the series. They made him have passive and dumb dad traits just so they could have dominant women, but that's not the thing you guys should focus on. Its the emotionally snapping to murder someone and the talk of how people are scared of Joel (which they didnt talk about in the game). These two points are setting him up to try make people see Joel as a crazed emotionally ruled lunatic that goes on murder spree's. This, I believe, is to avoid what happened with the game fan base, where everyone loved the ending of TLOU where he saved Ellies life, by separating the viewer from empathising with Joel as much. This is so they can hammer home more how when he kills his way through the dragonfly groups base, he is actually not only killing many doctors and things, but also stopping them from making a cure to the zombie infection. (in the game they are clearly terrorists and you also pretty much only kill people who try to kill you with guns btw.) They are likely thinking that if they can land that differently than in the games then people wont be as pissed about Joels death etc. of the second games story.
Trying to get this one monetised would be one of the worlds best work of double dancing and two stepping. That chicken joke made me almost wet myself. How they end season 1 will be very interesting. People won't watch a season 2 because we know where it goes.
They are obviously going in for the normy crowd, trying to suck enough people in who didnt play the game/s to keep watching after Joel is killed off. It sounds like Season 1 if it goes along with the game will pull that crowd in enough to keep them watching after the gamers peace out
I watched most of Episode 1 and I’m done. Don’t care as I know where it goes, and the second game is awful even beyond Joel getting killed off by a dude
This is an ideal panel of guests!! Three people to whose channels I'm subscribed, apart from the usual hosts! Coffee is made (I'm at work, I can't reach for the booze right now), so bring it on! It's going to be great. Edit 3 hours later: IT WAS GREAT!! Thank you so much for the laughs.
@@jhyphenh4597 When he gets that low, passive aggressive voice asking "and is it bad the show deviates from the source?" Like I love his point but I hate the way he expresses it. Nobody on the panel actually thinks that the show needs to be a carbon copy, and if you feel like your co-hosts aren't emphasizing that well enough, then engage in good faith first ffs. Debate can come when the straight up disagreements show up.
Why did she destroy Fred as a character, goes on to describe him as a skilled white male who others gravitated to as their leader. 😑 Nailed it, that's why.
there is no physiological reason for older men to bot be strong. indeed as their bones ate more hardened than a younger man, they can be stronger, strength being derivative of muscle and bone, but what tends to happen as bones hard on is they lose flexibility and thus those same movements tend to become more uncomfortable and slowed and painful, thus they tend to become weaker as a responce to loss of flexibility and increased pain.
1:31:31 sorry but there was absololutly nothing grey about what Joel did. the fireflies couldnt even source a car battery let alone transport a kid accross country, how the hell were they meant to find, manufacture and distribute a cure... all they were good at doing was blowing stuff up and losing every shootout they were ever involved in.
so far with the past couple of episodes Ellie seems to be more antagonistic towards Joel than in the game from what I remember. In the game she was a little distrustful of him, but she wasn't so abrasive and rude like in the show. I don't feel the same chemistry between them in the show compared to the games. But then again it's only been two episodes.
I only played the game like 2 maybe 3 times (can't recall) but I always thought Tess was in charge, and Joel had kind of checked out after Sarah's death.
HBO is putting out a RU-vid podcast with Troy Baker as the host after each episode airs. Neil and Co. have decided that the theme is how toxic love is. That things like racism, misogyny, etc. have at their root: love. Which has me so worried about where the show is going. They also confirm that Joel is the muscle, while Tess is the brains and is exceptional at manipulating him. Remember, Neil is a great admirer of Anita Sarkeesian and implemented things like the unbeatable female character in Uncharted 4. He's deeply entrenched in the ideology, and that lead to the catastrophe of TLOU2...
How is love the root of racism and misogyny? 😵💫 Racism and misogyny are prejudice/hatred towards things we see as threatening or inferior (based on skin color or sex/gender in this case). The root would be distrust or disgust, not love. What kind of twisted version of love are they talking about?
@@mattcollins3591 No, they weren't. They were specifically speaking about Joel and Ellie, not Tess. The kiss is melodramatic stupidity, by the way. Tess is intelligent enough to pick up a grenade instead of chancing it on a lighter...
I'm just mad I miss this because of my work I just want the drinker to know watching this is my usual after work ritual. After being Cook ng for people for 8 or more hours it gives me joy when I see this stream saved to my RU-vid I listen to this as I eat and game for my 1-2 hours of free time per week
I hate the fact that they changed Joel and Tess from partners in crime to partners in life. You could tell they wanted people to think they were together.
@@MikeHeldTheWorld I wouldn't doubt they boned but the way they were in the game was just better. The characterization of Joel in the show also lends alot to why I hate it since the og joel didn't need someone to slap him out of his panic attacks and tell him to pull it together, that was pretty lame
Accuracy in adaptations is a perfectly good standard to have and it can be objective. You may not agree with it, that's fine, but so far I have yet to hear anyone make a good argument for why non-accuracy is objectively better. It has been my observation that in practice the less accurate an adaptation is the worse the story is most of the time. The more an adaptation strays from the source the more plot holes and other problems are typically introduced because the ones doing the adaption haven't thought through the story to the extent of the original author and have no incentive to. In fact it's usually just the opposite, the ones making the adaption have less writing skill then the original author and think they can write the story better, but in nearly all cases it's worse.
