I assisted several weddings last year and one of the first things I was told to do I set my cameras to aperture priority + 1 EV and auto ISO. There’s a lot going on in a wedding and it’s one less thing to worry about. All the work goes through post anyway
"Gatekeeping setting on a camera", in the photography community? Gatekeeping? No! but for real, some peoples lack of self esteem in their own work becomes pretty apparent imo once they start telling people how images have to be made, all that matters is the end results.
the whole auto v manual debate is so silly. Good photographs are made by those with creativity, a good eye, and the ability to compose an image. None of those things are controlled by a camera.
Like I get if you don't like a camera if it doesn't make it easy/intuitive to do full manual shooting, but like literally who cares HOW you shot a photo if you like the output? People will gatekeep over the silliest things.
Oh my gosh.. regarding favorite Nikkor lenses, get your hands on a pre-Ai (or close to it) 85mm f/1.4 or f/1.8. It will change your mind and possibly your life 😉. In my opinion, of course.
