DISCLAIMER: Please understand that installing macOS Ventura or Monterey on your unsupported Mac is a best effort by the community. A ton of work went into getting the patcher to work! Some things might not work exactly right but it's really really close. I would not recommend installing on a system that you rely on for work or school. ALWAYS BACKUP YOUR FILES FIRST BEFORE YOU UPGRADE! The good news is that you are getting the latest security fixes from Apple. Some might argue that upgrading to Patched Monterey makes your Mac safer since Apple is no longer fixing security issues on 10.13 and below.

Thank you again Mr. Macintosh, for your dedication to the Mac community and your always easy to follow video's to update our OCLP Mac. FWIW: I always use wired keyboard & mouse and wired internet connection for updating my Mac Pro and/or other devices. Easy fix for some major issues that may occur.

Hey Mr Macintosh. Thanks a lot for your very informative videos. Cancelled the my 14.1 upgrade after reading your video (eventough I am on ethernet) I'll wait for your green light. So far my system (Imac 27 ', mid 2011, WX4150, i7, 20 gb memory) is working like a charm on Sonoma. System responsivness is excellent for an 12 years old computer !!! A great thank you to the entire OCLP team for their outstanding work.

Came across this video after installing 14.1 on my 2012 Mac mini and 2013 Mac Pro. Had I seen it before doing the upgrade, I would have waited until later! I was lucky that I was able to get into safe mode on both units and use the post install patches which corrected all the issue. As of this typing everything is working well on both machines. Both machines have i7 processors and 16GB of ram! Thanks for all the info and help!

Sonoma 14.0 worked great on my 2011 13” MacBook Pro. I had a WiFi issue when trying to upgrade to 14.1. That caused the black screen on reboot. I had made a (what I thought was) a USB installer copy of 14.0 - using the OCLP create installer process (turns out that is just a copy of the installer, not bootable). So, I’m in the process of reloading High Sierra, then upgrading up to 14.0. I’ll stay away from updates now until they are proven to work through your videos. Thanks for all you do to keep us updated on the pros and issues of MacOS!

Great and very informative video's Mr Mac. I held off installing OpenCore on my mid 2010 MacBook Pro that was running High Sierra for fear of having issues, but finally did and glad I have. Took the safe root and went for Monterey due to the age of my unit, and being an OS's that will no longer receive major changes from Apple I would be less likely to confront problems. I was more interested in having a working unit that can rum the latest versions of apps. More interested in function than the latest form. Really pleased and am amazed at how well Monterey runs on my 2010 MacBook Pro, in fact it runs way better now than it did on High Sierra and doesn't get as hot as it used to. The only issues I have are as follows. The internal DVD drive no longer works. Not a problem as never used and was expecting this anyway. Maps don't appear in both the Maps app and Find My. Apparently this is due to my unit being non Metal. Again not an issue as I just use Google instead. The one other issue I have happens in Photo's. If I click on "Memories" it will attempt to run for a few seconds then the app just crashes. Not sure if there is a fix for that, but again not a big deal because the app runs fine otherwise, and what I have gained in usability easily offsets minor issues. A big thank you to the developers at Dortania for their hard work on Opencore which has resulted in breathing new life into old Macs.

My machine is an Early 2008 Mac Pro and I suspect you are correct about the issue being with Wi-Fi. I am connected to my network via Ethernet and the update to Sonoma 41.1 whilst using OCLP 1.1.0 went flawlessly using Apple Software Update. Everything is working well and I must say, Sonoma appears to be running even more smoothly than Monterey and I was already impressed with how well Monterey ran.

@Mr. Macintosh I am Macbook pro 2016 user, updated to 14.1 2 days ago via the direct update. Problems: Long stay on the login page and when shifted to recovery mode, the same no WIFI problem. Solution: tried your last method of manual KDK download (since i didnt have ethernet at the hand). copied from another machine, installed it, ran the OCLP patches again and now its perfectly fine and everything is working. Thank you

I updated my iMac 27' end 2015 and MBP mid 2015 with the yesterday evening published OCLP 1.2.0 to Sonoma 14.1. After installation I was not able to login because the system was very, very slow. On both machines..I can't type in my password. This was possible after a switch off/on restart and installation of the OCLP root patches from OCLP 1.2.0. Now all is fine. Many thanks to all developers.

Thank you again Mr. Macintosh for these videos! Will the next updates of OCLP provide the ability to upgrade to 14.1 without having to go through recovery mode? Or is going through recovery mode the only option to upgrade to 14.1. Or is it better to upgrade to 14.1 using an ethernet cable? I have mid 2012 macbook pro.

Many thanks for the detailed descriptions of the somewhat complex process of installing OCLP and Sonoma. I have a mid 2010 17 Macbook Pro. I tried to do the OCLP with Monterey some time back using your tutorial guidance. While it did install, I found too many glitches for my liking and wound up restoring my High Sierra. I'm intrigued to try this upgrade to Sonoma which would allow me to use many of the applications that I use on Windows through Parallels instead of on the Mac side as the apps require a higher OS than I have. The Macbook is very slow compared to my newer min-PC from Beelink. Not sure that upgrading to Sonoma will solve any of the slowness problem considering my Macbook Pro is limited to 8Gb based on the version. I have changed my HDD to a 2Gb Samsung Evo SSD which helps. What are your thoughts on upgrading this dinosaur to OS Sonoma? The laptop is almost unusable due to the older OS and slowness. Thanks again for your insights into upgrades on non-supported hardware. One more question, would the upgrade to Sonoma allow upgrading to a greater RAM?

I had Sonoma 14.0 on my MacBook Pro 2013 and had problems with wifi and was overall laggy and sometimes unresponsive. Than i installed 14.1 with OCLP 1.1.0 and now works everything flawlessly expect battery life is worse it last around half hour to hour less than with previous version, depends on usage.

I've upgraded a Macbook Pro 13" 2014 (14.0 -> 14.1) and a Macbook Pro 13" 2017 (two tb/function key)-model (13.6 - native supported -> 14.1 - OCLP), via an OCLP 1.1.0 Bootable Installer USB (kicked off from the recovery interface - without wiping the SSD). Just for sure I've made a Time Machine Backup of all my important data on the 2017 model, but I haven't lost any data in the process and everything works as it did before.

For anyone trying to fix the missing boot logo on first stage boot (split between logo with no loading bar and loading bar with no logo), the issue is on Apple's side. Solution: uncheck Show Picker in OC config and save (or uncheck Show OpenCore Boot Picker in OCLP settings and rebuild OC). You will still be able access the boot picker by holding the ESC key.

I had a problem whereby I was actually stuck on a loading progress bar at the login screen after going through all troubleshooting steps. Booting into safe mode was not an option, but holding down shift and enter together at power on (and holding this buttons pressed until the login screen) resulted in another progress bar beneath the larger main progress bar. This second progress bar stopped at 97 percent and after some time the machine re-booted and I was finally able to log back into the OS to install patches.

Thank you for your videos! I tried installing Sonoma but did not realize the OCLP’s update had an issue when automatically trying to update it. When Ventura tried to upgrade it did not work and now it’s stuck on loop and get the message it needs recovery. I have already tried solutions you showed on your videos but no luck. I have created a bootable usb to see if installing a fresh version would do the charm but it is not working. Any help?

I've use the recovery mode to reinstall under the previous system with a OCL USB key made on a Mac mini M1. Finale, I've recovered my system like before the OCL 1.1.0 updating root patching.

My Mac book pro mid 2012 ‘13 16gb memory is running Sonoma really well. only problems I’m experiencing is using preview mode and wallpapers but main issue I’m experiencing is wireless wifi connection issues. I managed to get it working somehow with using hotspot and switching to wireless but tried the 2nd time (because it disconnected).” And was unsuccessful. Hopefully the next open core update will fix this issue. Thanks!

Update: It's been a day or two on MacBook Pro 2012 16gb memory, after a few period of restarts. Live wallpapers are working better but stutter on Lock Screen and often stop. Wireless wifi connection seem to be working much better, having less disconnection and connection issues. widgets work really well. Cpu has been okay in activity monitor with the cpu pressure going up and down a lot. Memory is casually between 4-7 gb. Thanks

Mac Mini Late 2012 i7 / 6,2: didn't complete Sonoma 14.1 update. Goit stuck on a black screen. Booting not possible, progress bar got stuck at about 40 %. Had to force it shut down again. Rebooted into recovery mode, tried the terminal app with the recommended work-around. Again, no booting possible, progress bar got stuck at about 40 %. I then tried rebooting into safe mode (SHIFT key held while rebooting). It took quite a lot of time but eventually showed the log in screen of Sonoma again. Everything super slow and laggy which reminded me of running the actual root patches again. This machine was connected to the internet via Ethernet. Hav to use cable bond keyboard and mouse as the wireless functions were disabled. Lucky enough, I had both, cable bond equipment and an ethernet connection to the web. OCLP ran root patches, loaded KDK and installed it to disk. Asked for a reboot and that finally brought the machine back to life! Phew! Gave me goosebumps. Not the good ones. :) But it's up and wroking again. Hope it will stay that way. My Mac Mini now is on Sonoma 14.1 / Safari 17.1 and all via OCLP v1.1.0 A big thank you to all developers involved!! As for my iMac 2009 (11,1 / i7 2.8 GHz with AMD Radeon 4850 512 MB graphics, I had to revert the root patched of v1.1.0 and installed v1.0.1 again as the foto app just kept refusing to open up at all. I will wait for Mr. Macintosh to give a GO before I try it again with the my other Mac Minis (6,1 / i5) and iMac (12,1 / 21.5 inch Mid 2011), which are all on v1.0.1 OCLP and Sonoma macOS 14.0 actually.

See previous post. Re instruction on deleting “everything else” in library/extensions/ , if the install of 14.1 was as an UPGRADE from say 13.6 rather than a clean install, there will be other items in this folder. In my case related to Dropbox, hp, and NVDA. At least I assume that’s the case, and these should not be deleted?

I updated my 2014 MacBook Air 14.1 with 1.1.0 and most of it seems okay except Safari wont render RU-vid videos at all. It keeps giving me a RU-vid playback ID error. I've tried all the little fixes and resets but it wont work. However, Safari renders RU-vid videos and previews quite fine and fast in safe mode. I'm sorta waiting for the next OCLP fix but I may wipe the drive and try a clean/fresh install of both in the meantime. RU-vid is also super-fast in Chrome and Firefox with no issues so far. I will update my 2008 3,1 tomorrow with 14.1 as 14.0 and 1.1.0 seemed fine on that machine with the original GPU. Safari would render RU-vid vids no problem. Install was smooth.

Going to wait it out and stay with 14.0. No reason to cause issues I don't have at present. I have noticed an issue with the 1.1 vs previous version after updating the EFI partition using the new OCLP version though. It favours Sonoma over my other Catalina volume to the point it errors out at boot up if I select the Catalina volume from a cold boot without first booting into Sonoma and then rebooting into it via the system preferences. It shows the stop symbol otherwise.

Post unintended in OS update 13.6 to 14.1 MB pro mid 2014 with Ethernet (essentially a desktop). Working perfectly so far. Question re KDKs as in the last example machine (mbp2017); in Developers/KDKs I only have one folder, KDKs_13.5.2G91.kdk. No 14 or 14.1 KDKs. Guidance please!

I have a problem. I updated my MacBook Air 2017 to Sonoma 14.1. During the update, the screen went black and the progress bar went away. I followed the YT video about booting into safe mode, but when I boot into safe mode I need to log in, this works the first time, but then I need to login again (in Sonoma login style) and this glitches and I can’t enter my password

2011 15" and 2012 13" Mac OS14. Opencore 1.1.10 Upgrades to OCLP 1.1.0 When OS 14.1 came out, because of the explanations about the ting/nomenclature, I upgraded Mac. Alll worked fine until I updated the OLCP patching. Now Mac does not start to load OS after entering FileVault password. I am able to swap hard drives between machines with the un-upgraded machine booting bit the 14.1 not loading anything after entering password. I eagerly await OCLP 1.1.1

Did not manage to update my Macbook Pro 2016 (macbookpro13,1) with encrypted disk. After typing in password, the progress bar stops at 60%. Commandlines to fix the problem did not help. Tried to install the OS with a patched USB stick and it not work. Finally, to have something running, I deleted the partition and reinstalled Montery with a restored timemachine backup. Hope that today new Macbooks will be announced and buy a new machine instead of patching the old ones. Took me too much time to test things that failed.

Have updated to OLCP with Ventura on MacBook Pro mid2012 13" and had the OLCP icon changed to "?" Which means it did not get the complete update through WiFi. Had the OLCP several times and root patches and finally used internet with bluetooth hotspot connected iPhone to USB had the OLCP at the official website and had it working. BUT after using apps wand put to sleep mode it HEATED UP and got the Kernel Panic death icon - forced to turned off and there is a need to force quit to see the apps which are still running before putting again to sleep mode. I hope I will not get the Kernel Panic icon again. Thanks

Just boot logo is missing for first-stage boot with Sonoma on my MacBookPro Mid 2015. Apparently your MBP 2017 has the exact same issue. I still don’t know how to fix that. Anyway, everything else worked perfectly for me. But if you upgrade OC to 0.9.5, you might get the black screen after boot picker on Sonoma. Works fine with the default 0.9.3.

I have the same issue on MBP 2014, which is otherwise flying! I assumed it was a security setting forcing both user name and password, but can’t find such a setting. Login after screen saver or screen off are unaffected
@pluto762
@pluto762 8 месяцев назад
@@flowntn1989 When does that show up? Do you have FileVault enabled? In my case, for as far as I can see, this is not specific to Sonoma. Happens on Ventura, too. And I'm pretty sure it would occur on older versions, too. Sounds like an OC issue. But I couldn't find a fix for it.
@flowntn1989
@flowntn1989 8 месяцев назад
@@pluto762 apologies….. firstly this is seen on a cold/warm restart. Then Sonoma 14.1 - MBP 11.3 behaves normally with both accounts with avatar visible at login at the bottom of the screen. It is Ventura 13.6.1 Mac Mini 5.2 that only shows a blank field for both account and password, and no avatar. For what is worth, Sonoma on the 2014 MBP flies compared to the Mini. I attribute this to the discrete graphics of the former and newer gen I7.
@pluto762
@pluto762 8 месяцев назад
@@flowntn1989 Sounds like your Mac Mini might have some user issues. I would try to create a new user and see if the issue still occurs. As for the boot logo, that one is apparently an Apple bug. Also occurs with their own firmware. To fix this, you have to hide the Boot Picker in OC config. :))

Then it works for half an hour but problems coming back. Nvram reset didn’t fix it. I’m on a Mac Pro 5.1 with a metal graphics card. I don’t want to do a clean install just downgrade to Ventura again. That os worked fine. Thanks for your support.

My MBP 2012 was running Sonoma 14 and OCLP 1.1.0. When 14.1 came out , I thought, "Im good with OCLP" lets do the upgrade. It bricked my Macbook. Got to the 30 percent progression indicator and never went forward. I tried all the suggestions from Mr. Mac but nothing worked. I had recently replaced my 500gb SSD with a 2 TB SSD and kinda messed up my BOOTCAMP partition for Windows. After getting bootcamp working, finally, I ended up with a defunct 400gb bootcamp partition that was just wasting space. The "bricking" of my MBP gave me incentive to just do a "wipe clean" fresh install. I created installing media using 1.1.0 OCLP and Sonoma 14.1 install file. Everything worked perfectly including reclaiming my 400gb bootcamp defunct partition. I dont know why the upgrade path didnt work for me but the wiping of the SSD and starting fresh sure as hell worked.

I'm pretty sure that those older models have USB 1. something and it got disabled by apple in the later OS versions. Basically apple disabled the ports when you updated. I'd recommend staying on Monterrey since it's really the only option!

USB 1.1 (I guess the 2010 still has it) is no longer supported. You need to get yourself an USB 2.0 Hub and attach cable bond Keyboard and mouse to it. Then reboot, open OCLP and download the latest root patches for your machine. It probably will be working fine again after a restart. If not, try rebooting with clearing the VRAM (probably option+command+P+R for your machine, keys held down until the start chime can be heard a second time). Let the machine reboot again and see if your wireless functions are available again.

Did you try manually to ask OCLP for the latest root patches? That sounds like it was missing the latest ones. And first thing with issues, it seems to me, should be trying to reboot with clearing the VRAM of the machine to really know if everything went out as planned with the patcher.

OCLP 1.1.0 borked my 5,1 running Ventura 13.5.2; it will only boot to Recovery unless I EFI boot from USB using 0.6.8. Not a massive problem, but I need to update to 13.6.1, and am hesitant to brick my complex, personalized install, as Migration Assistant has been relentlessly crashing since Monterey. I’m using CCC to make legacy bootable copies, but I have to boot from a third backup SSD to reliably clone my primary system source to my backup clone disk. Exhausting. Would appreciate any clues on getting 1.1.0 to work for my Ventura installation.
