DISCLAIMER: Please understand that installing macOS Sonoma, Ventura, Monterey or Big Sur on your unsupported Mac is a best effort by the community. A ton of work went into getting the patcher to work! Some things might not work exactly right but it's really really close. I would not recommend installing Sonoma (use Ventura or Monterey) on a system that you rely on for work or school. ALWAYS BACKUP YOUR FILES FIRST BEFORE YOU UPGRADE! The good news is that you are getting the latest security fixes from Apple. Some might argue that upgrading OCLP makes your Mac safer since Apple is no longer fixing security issues on 10.13 and below. But this process is not supported by Apple and is to be used at your risk only.

Just wanted to say "thank you so much"! I updated my core legacy and the update didn't take. I had to wait a couple of days just to get my head around the black screen. I tried so many different ways, as I couldn't find my USB boot drive. I finally found I could download from another iMac with the same OSX and Viola! I was able to watch your video and go through the process. It started up my computer with no loss of anything. Your step-by-step instructions made it so easy I am so grateful. Thank you!

Great, thanks for your quick update. Update on MBP 15‘ mid 2015 and iMac 27‘ end 2015 flawlessly. No issues. It would be perfect when the function „show boot picker“ will not change or, much better, is disabled per default function.

Hi, Thank you again to you and the team for offering their time. Have installed OCLP on both my MBP 15" Retina Early 2013 and Mac Mini Late 2012 (Server edition), both on macOS 13.6.1. Everything works ok. The Mac Mini has two hard drives ("Macintosh HD" and "Macintosh HD2"), not in RAID configuration, both are bootable, and both will load the OS from "Macintosh HD". The Mac alternates between which drive to load the boot loader (don't ask me why). My usual workflow would be to install to disk and root patches on one drive (which I did on 13-November in the evening), then ignore the reboot prompt and continue to install to the other hard drive, but since the hotfix, it didn't want me to do that and said the latest version was already installed. I then rebooted, login this morning and as I expected OLCP prompt me immediately asking if I wanted to install the bootloader (root patches), I did that. The Post-Install Menu shows the root Volume last patched yesterday (13-November and all patches installed). I though I would mention this.

Another fantastic video, and thanks for your continued support of our legacy community. I was wondering if you could setup your test machines with a user login and test in that configuration? Mine are all setup with logins and this has been a case of continual frustrations post Sonoma 14.0. My variety of MacBooks all have problems with the graphics subsystem crashing the login app. My workaround has been to disable the Sonoma screensaver (doesn't always work) or downgrade to Ventura.

I'd like to see video on the Settings menu of the patcher. There are settings like "Allow unauthenticated root" that sound scary and are pre-checked. What are the best settings to have? Lots of unknowns here for the non-expert.

Hi, thank you for your videos. You demonstrated Touch ID working on the MacBookPro14,3 but on my 13,2 and other people's 14,2 the Touch ID is still disabled. I'm using Sonoma 14.1.1 and Ventura 13.6.1 and OCLP 1.2.1. Touch ID actually never worked on OCLP for me even on Ventura. I did find a fix for Ventura by choosing "minimal" in the SMBIOS settings but that will stop me from booting Sonoma. Hope to find a fix soon, thanks.

Thank you Mr. Mac! I gave the weekend to 1.2.0 and all my machines were stuck on boot, even with the USB boot option. Tried going back to Ventura and no dice either. Looked at drives externally on a laptop and all good as I could see? Just for all the reboots into installer, the HD was renamed to “Mac HD-Data-Data-Data-Data” Went back to 5,1’s original GC and no joy either. I could get to the installer Menu with Option but it would get stuck half way through the boot process. I hope this 1.2.1 update can get me going! Thanks.

Yes, upgrading to 1.2 and trying Ventura trashed my 5.1 so it wouldn't even run Monterey off a separate SSD, which had been working without issue for a long time.

What is the best way to prevent OCLP from auto-patching so data can be transferred (backed up with CCC or Time Machine) and then restored with Migration Assistance. The instructions I've seen state that MA should not be run during Setup Assistant because of OCLP's patching, however I've been unable to figure out how to unpatch and keep it that way to successfully backup and restore. Do you cover that in a video, or can you tell me here? My specific case is to move data and apps from a 2011 iMac (Sonoma 14.1.1) to a 2013 MacPro running same. The MacPro will be a fresh install, and both are using OCLP 1.2.1.

After upgrade Ventura to sonoma on iMac 14.2 it’s ended like this: Half Progress bar and stopped. Only safe mode is possible to start - but the „shift start“ isn’t accepted every boot. Tried everything with OCLP patches. Still stucked with 50% progress bar.

Thanks for all your videos Mr Mackintosh. Now I am retired I am exploring computer technology as a hobby and you have encouraged me to start to use OpenCore. I now have Monterey running on a 2008 MacPro 3,1 that I bought recently to play about with. Most of the system is working well but my Bluetooth card is not so I have used a dongle for Bluetooth 4 (which is only supposed to work with Windows). It would be nice if there was a patch to enable use of the two Superdrives I have in my machine - not crucial but a shame I cannot use all of this iconic tower. Further to your update on 1.2.1. I already had that but have downloaded it again and gone through building and installing OpenCore on my internal drive again. I looked in Launchers and there is absolutely nothing in there - complete blank. Is there a way to enter the info for this launcher in terminal? It would be a nice safety valve to have. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Hi, Phil! Open OCLP and manually search for the latest root patches again. Found some? Install them and reboot. Bluetooth still not working? Try booting again while clearing your Macs VRAM: Press and hold option+command+P+R until the Apple start chime was heard a second time. Release keys and let the machine fully boot. If everything is like I would expect it, your Mac’s BlueTooth and Wi-Fi should be up and running again. Good luck!

Thx for replying I appreciate you taking the time.. Unfortunately I tried all of that and it did not work. No new patches to install. Nothing showing in LaunchAgents folder. Bluetooth working through the 3rd party dongle and wifi is ok. Will just have to remember to manually update the patcher if I make any changes. Any thoughts on a way to get Monterey to recognise the DVD superdrives? @@georgwor8955

@@cybertrkNot necessarily. You can start the machine and begin the process. But at some point OCLP will complain that you are trying to run a setup for another machine and gives you the opportunity to load the correct one. Try it. I‘ve done it with different machines and it worked out well in the end.

@@gerardllosa261 i am not sure if I get you right. It doesn’t matter if you use Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi to download the installation file. But did you try booting the machine in safe mode? Holding SHIFT until the machine shows the login screen again. Can take about a minute or more. Works for most of the black screen scenarios after a forced restart. May be lagging very much at first. If it booted in safe mode, open OCLP and manually install the latest root patches again. Reboot after. With a bit of luck, this will solve your problem. Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

When I tried to go back to my previous SSD to work as I normally did with the MacBook Pro, a folder with a flashing question mark appeared on startup. I tried selecting the SSD by pressing shift before entering, but it doesn't appear in the disk selection. I thought it could be an issue with the previous SSD, so I got a completely new one (ADATA Legend 800) with a different (new) adapter, but it doesn't recognize it either. It only detects the original SSD, not the other two. I've tried resetting SMC and VRAM, but nothing happens. They don't appear in the Terminal with "diskutil list" or in the Disk Utility. Please help.

Advice on which OCLP OS to run on a Late 2013 MBP 15" (11,3). Local repair shop says he sees alot of these models with GPU problems and fears that Ventura and Sonoma will be too demanding on the chip and "He doesn't recommend anything more than 12.7.1 Monterey" The info seems legit but I am currently running Sonoma and it is running fine. Do you think with these words of wisdom it is worth it to stay on Sonoma or downgrade to Monterey for chip preservation?

Stay on Sonoma if you like it. If you want to have a more stable macOS (actually) then go to Ventura. Your local repair shop seemed to be very professional ;)

I cannot prove it but to me it seems my Macs run a little lower temperatures on the latest Sonoma. Might be I am wrong. But painfully know that GPU issue hence I keep an eye on the temperatures. Get the free app Mac Fan Control and pre-set the fan response manually. The Mac might be a little more noisy as the fan revs a little sooner and a little higher. But it might safe your GPU. What probably killed my GPU was trying to run a RU-vid video on more than full HD because I was curious. Bad idea. 😅

@ChrisKobra 7 месяцев назад
@@georgwor8955 sorry, about your GPU failure and thanks for your advice. I haven't experienced this failure yet however it's good to learn what not to do. Also good to have the opinion from someone that has gone through this experience and carefully watching the temps and fan control.

no one is probably going to believe me but I have a MBP 2017 with the touch bar and was going to use your instructional video to install Sonoma on it when I had some time off but Apple beat me to it. I got an update notice the other day and it had Sonoma 14.1.2 as an update, and it was only a 4.8 GB or so size fil, now I was still on the last 13. whatever the last one was. I hit update and it downloaded it and took hours which was weird as the normal Apple updates are really quick but it finished and I let it install. It rebooted and I had no networking so I downloaded the OCLP 1.2.1 and installed it to the drive, what have I got to lose, and rebooted and ran post install patches and had to actually run that twice and now it seems like everything is running as it should. Thanks?

I'm not sure if anyones in the same situation. But Upon installing Sonoma on a MacBook 2011 17 inch it got stuck and hung. I was using 1.1 or and tried 1.0. It would fail on the update (Because no internet connection). The problem is usually I'd just boot back normally and realize okay I tried it didn't work. But then my boot screen wouldn't show. And the screen was black but it continues to be on. The reason I'm wondering is because well I was using an app that forces the internal gpu to work and bypass the amd one. (I would get the lines on the screen but this solution made the Mac usable making the screen clear again.). So basically I'm wondering if it was the fact that the KDK didn't load or it was looking for it and it got bricked. Usually though I'd just put in all my backup HD installs of say Mojave or last stable version. But I haven't been able to figure out how to boot anything since. (Because the boot screen isn't viewable). I've tried all recovery disks. And I double checked my lvds cable and cables inside for damage. So I'm kind of stuck. I tried booting into a windows install too on another hard drive to see if I could just boot an operating system. But it's still an on screen. With no graphics showing or the boot loader anywhere to be found. Now I'm just patiently looking for a solution to even get it it boot to like MacOs high sierra.? Anyway it's not my main driver. I have Sonoma on other systems. I was just curious if I could give the patcher a go on an old laptop that was lying around. I spent a week on the problem. And then just put it in a drawer for a couple of weeks to save my sanity. But any point in a bootable direction would be awesome. Also I tested my boot drives that didn't work on a 2010 and all the os systems loaded. So my guess is Its the firmware that got screwed up and can't get back to simple boot loader. Also I tried all the safe mode network modes but they didn't work. Also same result no screen. Thanks for all your work by the way this has been technically amazing just what people have been able to do here. I'd love to try this one too but hehe I'm kind of stuck here before this solution came out.

Re-posting my comment from another video in case someone else finds themselves in a similar situation.. Great video! I had OCLP set up on a MacBook Pro 15' 2017 and I went to update it to version 1.2.1...after rebooting I was only getting to the login screen where I would enter my password and no loading bar would appear and it would just hang. Tried to boot into EFI recovery but that also produced a hanging black screen. Was directed by a different video of Mr. Macintosh's to keep an OCLP USB handy (which I did not have handy), so I made a bootable Sonoma drive for 14.2.1 with the OCLP GUI application on another Macbook. I did not build and install Opencore on the USB, only installed macOS. Plugged the USB into the problem Mac Pro and booted holding 'Option' key to get to boot options, then pressed 'Control' key while clicking on 'EFI Boot.' Was brought to an additional boot options Menu where I could select the 'Install MacOS' option from my USB. If you select 'Install MacOS' option on the first menu on boot instead of 'EFI Boot' you may be greeted with a startup error apple logo and link, so make sure EFI Boot first, then USB installer. Waited anxiously through a series of reboots and progress bar pages and sure enough was able to boot to a login screen, enter my password, and get back into my Mac Pro without losing any data. Thanks a bunch!!!!!

❗UPGRADE ALWAYS use a OCLP USB installer❗NEVER EVER Sytemupdate. Then follow EXACTLY the instructions from Mr. Macintosh some videos ago (was a long big Sonoma video). If you're just updating within a macOS Version (i.e. Sonoma 14.0 > 14.1.1) then you could use the system updater BUT before check ALWAYS if there a new OCLP update.
