Operation Strix | Spy x Family S1E1 Reaction 

This is absolutely adorable. And Anya.... 😻

Some minor easter eggs: 1. The MC used the name Forger. In olden EU and UK, many commoner family that didnt have a family name and wanted to start having one for identity use, they usually use the occupation that they had in the family like Baker, Smith and so on. Him using Forger is a fun easter of referring to him forging a different identity as an occupation. 2. Anya was a test subject, code name 007. Obvious referencing to James Bond. 3. Not exactly an easter egg but during the fight scene where the MC used flour, air born flour is highly flammable, especially in enclosed space. Any sparks or flames, like from firearm, can cause an explosion. Which forces the bad guys to not use their guns.

I think an exclusive, prestigious private school requiring both parents is using the idea that only a stable household with a complete family is capable of producing a high quality child that is worthy of attending their school.

"Anya has been Papa's daughter for a long time." The dialogue given to Anya is so well done. It makes sense a kid would say things that way and it is used for comedy so well.

Yay! This anime is so much fun! A little non-spoiler background, just for your appreciation: this anime is set in a fictionalized Cold War East Germany (Ostania) and West Germany (Westalia), and the manga creator is a big fan of classic spy movies and TV shows, so you'll see a ton of references, and you definitely get that vibe from the soundtrack. There are some times when the story gets serious about the effects of war and the real peril the world is in, and when Twilight references his childhood (as he does at the end of this episode), it's important to remember that he would have been a child during WWII, and experienced everything a German child would have experienced at that time. That is his motivation for becoming a spy.

Don't worry about being confused, you picked up on a lot more than most. I think you'll really like the show. It's more of a comedy and has 'out there' stuff like Anya being a telepath, so don't expect it to be as grounded as Run With the Wind or even Haikyuu which are more or less set in the real world.

Okay, it's been a long time since I've been this genuinely surprised. I actually gasped seeing this on my feed. What an unexpected surprise! This show has been absolutely fantastic, and is honestly such a good pick for you to go into. Fantastic characters, cool spy narrative, and the anime just oozes charm and humour. I'll definitely be tuning in for these. Truly hope you enjoy it! 😊

If it wasn't obvious, this is set in a fictional West and East Germany at the height of the Cold War (50s-60s) which is why the emphasis on full families, etc. I'm thrilled you're reacting to this, Sarah. You'll love all of the members of the Forgers.

I love how the dude acts like the Toupee is the big deal then mentions the whole bit about the dude working for the other side as secondary info, I didn't catch the second part till this rewatch. (I knew the minister was working with the west to help maintain the peace, but I didn't realize he knew the minister was sort of a traitor)

"Feel like that is a little unfair, because what if someone only has one parent?" Yeah requirements for elite private schools are usually unfair and even more so when time period is during cold-war.

This show is so so cute you're gonna love it, it's a nice lighthearted (for the most part) comedy with a bit of action! There does have to be a little suspension of disbelief as to how no one seems to notice anything suspicious, so just sit back and relax and don't think too hard about the plausibility of certain things, and have an fun time watching!

The voice actor of Loid is same actor for the captain Yuji Terushima of Johzenji (The yellow team that's energetic) from Haikyuu.

Also, Eden College is a prestigious school, so naturally, it will be extremely elitist, which means single parent family needs not apply. 🤣

I loved watching and reading Spy x Family a lot. Plus Anya is such a cutie. You won't believe but her voice actor is actually a 32 year old woman and she's done so well. I have her voice set up as my notification tone lol. Every time a notif comes my phone goes "Anya !!" or "chi-chi" or "ui" or "bakudan-bakudan". Also, I truly love that she isn't the definition of "book-nerd" smart. She is just smart as a kid. And she has her own strengths which do not include the bookish intelligence. She is very curious, very lively and all of these things just make her a really good kid. She has her childish innocence which is one of the best things you'll see in this show as compared to many other animes where the kids are just born "wise" and "un-childish" or just mature too fast in their head. I love seeing this dynamic of this family, it is very fictious but at the same time everything is so close to reality.

Also, do keep in mind that the time period for this is like in the 50’s or 60’s so maybe having both parents being mandatory was a thing then or maybe just the school haha

Love this show - it's so cute! And Anya's voice actress is incredibly talented. She did an amazing job here of making Anya so likeable. We don't know her age for sure, only that she is 4 or 5 (all we are sure of is that she is not 6 - she said that as she read in his mind that he needed a 6 year old). I love it that although she can read minds, she still has the emotional maturity of a 4/5 year old, so she does not always understand what she is hearing. Same way as a normal child might not.

My understanding of how Loyd swapped places with the kidnapper is that he was never hit in the head. The show makes it look like he was hit from behind but iirc it doesn't actually show him being hit. I assume he dodged it and took out the guy.

Great choice, honestly wasn't expecting you to venture beyond sports yet, but this was 100% an excellent choice.

Didn’t expect this show. I think the show you would most enjoy is Chihayafuru, it’s sort of like a sports show but not, very character and plot driven like run with the wind but imo even better
