I think it's important to note what an effects loop actually does in an amp and what this amp actually is. A traditional amp has two gain stages, a preamp section and a power amp section. The effects loop of an amp "sends" the guitar signal out of its preamp section and "returns" it to the power section. People like to use their time-based pedals in the effects loop because it bypasses all of the dirt in the preamp section, giving you clean delay/reverb trails. The Pedal Baby, however, is not a traditional amp. It's just a solid state power amp, same as the one you would find in Orange's Super Crush 100. So to say that it doesn't have an effects loop is kind of a moot point, because it's not a full amp with a preamp and power amp section. Whatever pedals you run after your gain staging will effectively be in the amp's "effects loop."
There’s no need for an effects loop for a flat response pedal platform power amp, which is what the Pedal Baby is. A line out of the last pedal in your pedal board eliminates the need for a line out on the power amp, and gives you one less step for something to fail. If you’re using modelers, you just use the line out from your modelers to go to front of house. The Pedal Baby is a power amp, there’s no reason to overthink it. It’s simplicity is brilliant, there’s no reason to have over-engineered extra redundancies that are not needed for its design.
You do have an fx loop since you don't have a preamp... Simple as that :) FX loop is an insert point between pre amp and power amp... Just use a patch cable to bridge the gap in your pedalboard... lol And a line out wouldn't make much sense either since the amp doesn't color much, you'll just go to some kind of cabinet sim or IR loader and use the not effected output of that into the pedal baby. No need for FX LOOP or LINE OUT... Cheers
I realise this is an old video but felt the need to say for anyone that sees the review and thinks about writing the amp off because it does not have an fx loop. Don't because there is no need for a power amp to have effects loop. Fx loops are placed after a preamp and before the power amp. This is a power amp with no preamp. So you couldnt even physically put an fx loop in the orange pedal baby.
Nice to see that Orange is supporting you! :) I personally would not have bought a CR120 if I never found your channel. Hope there is coming more in the future. Great Amp btw! Pretty cool concept and again, I would never have heard about that amp without you
It's a power-amp only, so having an effects loop would be pointless. The pedal baby is essentially the same part of the amp that comes after the effects loop. Run a pedal based preamp and put all of your effects that would normally go in the loop after that pedal preamp.
I come back inside from the east coast American blizzard, boots, gloves and coat soaked through, reeking from the smell of 2 stroke snowblower engine fumes to find the warm tones of Simpson, like a fire in the hearth. Oh, thank ye, Davey.
You don’t have an fx loop because there is no preamp. You could imagine one of your crunch pedals was a preamp and then either put your modulation or delay before or after that. Remember this is simply a clean power amp Dave
I thought this doesn't need an effects loop. It's preamp pedal - reverb/delay - pedal baby. The FX loop is usually before the power amp which is all the Pedal baby is.
Safe to say the orange pedal baby is still around 5 years later.. still kicking everyone’s speakers into sonic overdrive.. And Dave Simpson is still gracing us with awesome tones and playing. Can’t wait to get me an orange pedal baby now.
The “treble” and “bass” controls would be the same as “presence” and “resonance” you see on some amps. They are achieved not the same way as a tone stack EQ, but within the power amp, by removing some high frequencies or some low frequencies in the feedback loop (removing treble frequencies in the fb loop allows those frequencies to carry on to the speakers; removing bass frequencies in the fb loop allows them to carry on to the speakers.
I've been watching your videos awhile, and I'm genuinely happy that orange is sending you stuff. What a great demo btw I'm gunna have to pick one of those up some time.
