As a rider myself I’m way more scared of being rear ended by a distracted driver waiting “my turn” at a stoplight than I am splitting lanes at a reasonable speed difference with surrounding traffic. I find nothing in their arguments against it besides “it’s not fair that bikes don’t have to wait in traffic as long as me” - when actually I’m reducing traffic overall by not driving my car and riding instead. Had a guy completely road rage at me, nearly intentionally hitting me, for doing this just today. What a childish and myopic view of “fairness”. Thanks for publicly being a part of this fight.

People always say that they're not gonna see a lane splitting motorcyclist and end up changing lanes into the motorcycle, but one thing to understand lane splitting is only lane splitting where there are cars on either side. This means that a car switching lanes into an "illegal motorcycle" is in the wrong whether the motorcycle is there or not.
@381delirius
@381delirius Год назад
I also forgot to mention that if the motorcycle was or wasn't there and the car makes an improper lane change, they will crash into a car that cannot lane split their way out of the situation.

Well Mr Squid Tips, I've been riding longer than you've been alive. All I can say is - You're right. Splitting should be allowed. We know it's better and safer for the rider, not just from every survey proving it, but from experience. The only negative affect to drivers I've ever seen is a grade school level of feelings of 'it's not fair'. I just don't like it, it scares me, I get startled while drooling on myself in mind numbing traffic and you go by... If a rider isn't stupid about it, the chances of a collision is near zero, and the chances of being rear ended by a car is zero. Keep fighting the good fight!

20:10 Notice that he sides with the people who commit road rage. 20:25 Another insincere argument. Even if you follow all rules, cars will still cut in front of you! Recently happened to me, a police car saw it and did nothing.

biggest thing ive noticed, the opposition to legalize splitting doesnt mention numbers. they feel very focused on an appeal to emotion. "its scary". at 10:57, he is mentioning the delta which is a significant talking point when it comes to statistics.

You were so right about Bikes triggering people. I've only lane split once and it was just to avoid being squished do to a car deciding mid right turn that they wanted to keep going straight. But I've sat in traffic watching to clock tick, wishing i could be at work and thinking about how much time I could save spliting

As a motorcyclist I have been rear ended while I was stopped at a light with a long line of cars in front of me on a two lane hwy. It sent me flying, I was lucky to walk away without serious injuries. The driver that hit me saw the cars in front of me but did not see me. This is very common for people in cars that aren't paying much attention and the motorcyclists blend into the cars stopped ahead. By the time they see you it's too late.
@aaronaaronsen3360
@aaronaaronsen3360 Год назад
Wow those "against" argument were bad. "But people can road rage against riders" "but people can't pay attention because they're using their phones". Seriously that's infuriating, especially when on the other side there's stats and studies that prove line filtering is SAFER. Good luck Oregon, you're going to need it !

As an Indian this is funny and sad. Come drive here lol. And I'm not saying it's bad. The whole philosophy is different. You have to be aware and give other people space. Why would I block the road when someone can pass. The level of entitlement of US car drivers is astonishing. Car drivers just don't want to pay attention and drive mindlessly. That's it. Also jealousy that someone passes them and they are stuck which is SO weird!

Same here. With several riding buddies being truck drivers. Truckers are generally the safest drivers on the road. You don't want to hang out next to them, they tend to kick up rocks and road debris, bet getting by was never a problem.

I'm realizing it's time we see an alliance between motorbike riders and people like public transit users, pedestrians and people on regular bikes too. These car drivers and the lobbies and police behind them are entirely against anyone who isn't in a 2 ton death machine. Notice how that insurance lobbyist puts forward the fact that traffic fatalities are increasing but makes no effort to address the car dependent nature of US city design that leads to those fatalities. Refuses to address how cars are far more deadly than motorcycles, especially to children and pulls the typical "motorcycles dangerous" bullshit.

“not engineered for lane splitting”I’ve lane split my skinny old bmw multiple times, in WA. Sometimes drivers are scared to be close to another car on highway and are both driving to slow. I for the funnies try to scare them. My car is lower than other cars and so my side view mirrors tuck underneath the regular cars. I giggle every time. P.s. How about lane splitting in dead stop morning traffic northbound I-405 on a Surron? Hehehehehehehe.

Youre in lane county too? Cool. I dont ride motorcycles but I dont care if they ride safely. They usually never give me any anxiety. What gives me fear on the road are those giant american SUVs and pickup trucks that take up two parking spaces. Those are literal death machines on wheels. I can't even believe civilian cars that huge are legally allowed to be on the road.

There are many types of drivers and the ones that concern me are the ones that are (in stop and go traffic) on their phone or dash or just tired, this causes their driving habit to be of the start late stop late tendency. If even a car is behind this tired car then traffic looks like a slinky. It is up to the following vehicle to break the tendency. But if a motorcycle is unable to get out from behind that driver or out from in front of them, then being rear ended is very possible because the stop late driver has done it or forced the motorcycle to stop fast causing the fallowing car to rear end the motorcycle. Stop and go traffic doesn't provide openings for lane changes unless you push and even if you do, someone WILL change lanes in front of you 1 or 2 cars ahead, and start the slinky again. The opposition to lane splitting just looks to me like parents wrapping their kids in bubble wrap to go to school. Motorcyclists have a survival instinct and can be trusted to think for themselves.
@zikurick6365
@zikurick6365 3 месяца назад
I just have to add, she mentioned at the end "distracted drivers" and their solution is to lock the motorcycle into traffic with them.

It's really weird that the people testifying against lane-splitting by claiming inattentive driving is the risk to bikers lane splitting... as a defense against lane splitting, when inattentive driving is the primary cause of someone lane splitting. Like.. guys, the entire reason why lane splitting happens is BECAUSE of inattentive drivers. You're literally trying to block the solution by claiming the solution is the problem. HUH?

is it me or the lanes in California are much wider than in new jersey and new york?. i could almost drive a car between these 2 lines of vehicles in the footage you show on 7:20 . in new jersey and new you york you almost touch the vehicles on the side .many times you just don't do filtering because its really getting so narrow out there .
@dayanaclaghorn
@dayanaclaghorn Год назад
Back when I lived in California, I literally had a Cadillac escalade drive between two lanes on the highway in Richmond California. But those lanes were particularly wide. As someone who has lived in both states, the lanes are about the same size in California and Oregon. I did notice, the few times I have driven in New York that the lanes were narrower than California. I do not ride motorcycles, but would say that well thought out lane-splitting is clearly safer in stop-and-go-traffic because of various risks. I really wanted this to move forward, and out of committee as a car driver and pedestrian in the state of Oregon.

I like how when the cop ran out of time he didn't ask if he could keep going like everyone else who was being respectful and minding the time. Nah he just kept on rambling about hollow points, I laughed when I heard him say that motorcyclist police are trained against filtering. Bruh wtf, no it's the opposite, their trained to weave between tight objects with maximum control over their bike, this dude has no idea wtf he is talking about. There are plenty of videos of police motorcyclists cruising between cars at redlights to get to the front, especially to ensure that pedestrians and cyclists are safe. What a tool that police officer is.

@princesslohse3200
@princesslohse3200 Год назад
Using the trucks involved in accidents statistics to imply that truckers are the ones who are unsafe is incredibly misleading. That statistic doesn't delineate who is at fault, the vast majority of the time it's drivers in cars who cause accidents involving trucks. I'm a truck driver and I can't tell you how many times I've seen people almost lose their life in front of me because of some stupid shit they pulled. And that's why I support lane splitting because I would rather motorcyclists continue on their way rather than jump in front of semi trucks and hit the brakes expecting that an 80,000 lbs vehicle can stop like they can. I don't think the lady who's appealing to being scared has ever actually driven a semi truck before because when motorcycles stop in front of me it's a far more nerve wracking experience than when they just go around.

@@SquidTips I just hope it wouldn’t be used like the recent red light law here in PA is used by bikers. It was designed to let bikers go through a nor-responsive red if they had been sitting for a while, most of them the see it as “the motorcycles get to run red lights“ law.
