@@mattipps Russ doesn't fumble a ball to his feet these days, that thing goes sailing 5 yards away from him right towards a defender. Seen that a lot this year.
Why would he? 1. Russ is washed which is why Seattle got rid of him. 2. He wasn't their first choice to begin with. They wanted Aaron Rodgers and only settled for Russ when they couldn't get him.
RC and Dan are 100% right. Thanks for pointing out that Sean Payton needs to be held to some kind of accountability. Calling plays the way he did for 3.5 quarters is not a way to reliably win and honestly, IMO, set Russ up for failure
Russ has been playing pretty decent the past 8 to 10 games but even with that I always thought the head coach was the first to blame whenever a team is playing poorly. Sean Payton knows this so he's trying to hurry and get all the fingers pointing at Russell Wilson
His play calling is all people need to know about the situation. They clearly have 0 trust in Russ to do anything other than hand the ball off or check down on every play. Which is not a knock on Russ, he can win you NFL games, Payton is just stubborn and won’t allow Russ to run an actual NFL level offence
Its also possible that the coach sees this as the only safe way to play russ with the most success. He clesrly has limitations. And a coach with as much experience as SP likely has to try to work with what he got. Is it all russ' fault? No, but also if you look at what they gave up for him he clearly isnt living up to the investment. I wanted Russ to succeed, esp as a Broncos guy. But if your season is washed and you have a chance of taking a financial hit if he gets hurt playing in games that dont mean anything then it makes sense. Russ isnt the guy. Nothing personal against russ he has handled all this criticism with class. He really has. But at the end of the day its still business.
Thank you Dan O. and Ryan C. Sean P. would have NEVER EVER handled Drew B. like this. I used to think he was a good coach. CERTAINLY NOT ANYMORE. I’m glad Russell W. is handling this as a PROFESSIONAL , not with arrogance. He deserves to be treated better, even if his play is not consistently to everyone’s approval. It’s called RESPECT for another human.
I agree with Ryan Clark about Sean Payton…he’s been more than just critical of Russ’ play he’s been disrespectful by the way he carries himself. Russ didn’t lose those games where the defense just lost the game. Despite Russ not putting up huge numbers(defense allowed a team to put up 70) it’s not solely on him, Payton’s play calling has also been questionable
Payton is running his offense which worked with Brees 5,6,7 years ago. The league is leaps and bounds past that time. Watching the NE game I'd say his play calling lost that game at the end when he went ultra conservative instead of staying aggressive which allowed them to get the lead.
It's quite interesting how disparately Sean Payton has treated Russell Wilson (as compared to Drew Brees). *Drew Brees* : ✔Soapbox Communicator ✔Corny ✔Undersized ✔Athletic ✔Non-Black QB ✔Serenaded by Sean Payton ✔Never Benched/Demoted by Sean Payton *Russell WIlson* : ✔Soapbox Communicator ✔Corny ✔Undersized ✔Athletic ✔Black QB ✔Berated by Sean Payton ✔Rapidly Benched/Demoted by Sean Payton Bottom Line: Wilson and Brees are very similar, yet Payton made it a point to treat them very differently. I find that very interesting.
Sean Payton behaved like a bully this whole season. Constantly picking on Russell knowing that Russell is an extremely humble and God-fearing man and it’s not in his nature to go against authority.
So Payton was just supposed to go out there and say "yeah, we're benching him because he's costing us money and I don't like him."? The bottom line always wins, it's a business.
@@DJP317STARno we’re actually cutting him and moving on. Most people can’t see it from coloradons perspective who go to a watch every game. Russ isn’t the quarterback that can elevate a team at this stage. He runs into sacks, can’t see over the line, not even to make basic slant throws. He plays well out of the pocket but that’s it. Management has not only decided to save money but to completely move on from the situation. Expect them to draft a QB in the first round this summer.
All I have to say is Philip Rivers and Matt Ryan were not humiliated like this on their new teams. Heck even Baker Mayfield was treated better in LA and we see what’s going on in Tampa. We get it’s a football decision, But let’s be honest…did anyone expect the broncos to win the AFC CHAMPIONSHIP or even make it to that game? no. Did we expect them to be fighting for a playoff spot at the end of the season after a horrible one in 2022, yes and that’s exactly where they are now. So this whole thing is odd to me because stats and record aside, this is exactly where we expected the broncos to be. Then when you look at Russ stats, hes outplaying Mahomes, Tua, Jalen Hurts, Josh Allen, the list goes on from a TD/INT perspective Sean just never liked Russ from the beginning period and this was his way out.
Good luck attracting and retaining other talent when they know you won’t honor contracts you signed and will blame players for coaching issues. I hope Payton fails in every conceivable way.
This will effect nothing for free agents. This deal was made before Payton arrived in Denver and Russ will still get paid for next year! This kind of thing happens all over the NFL. Players know you get paid what you are worth. Fact is Russ isn’t worth that massive contract he signed.
@@DavidB-ui8pgI thought so too initially. But top tier free agents it likely will effect, which is what you ultimately would be concerned about. Players who have multiple options will then start to break down to the other options before making a final decision; state taxes, QB’s, head coaches and culture. Payton has put himself out on an island on both a head coach and his culture. Why would I go there if I’m getting the same money (if not more because of their horrible cap situation for the next two years) somewhere else? They don’t have to keep Russ, but this move which is already bad looks even worse.
Wilson can't get to his third read, he WAS an amazing athlete and that hid all his problems. Now you're seeing how incapable he is when he's lost a step. You can't work with a losing recipe.
I can completely understand why Payton doesn't want Russell Wilson. Wilson is older and slower and his flaws are much more obvious. He was always limited as a QB, but Pete Carroll made that offense work around Russ. Pete Carroll gave Russ up too, remember? He shouldn't have taken the job if he wasn't willing to abide Wilson for at least a couple of season until they had a chance to move on. He shouldn't have signed Wilson to a massive extension without seeing him play. And he can't threaten to bench players to try and leverage them to give up contracts THEY agreed to. I bet players are literally gonna demand more money to play in Denver. After all, how secure are your guarantees if the coach is willing to do THIS to the STARTING QB to leverage him on his contract? Absolutely horrible.
Dan shredded this panel 😂 rightfully so. No back up qb that the want to start is better than Russ. But they’ll find out the hard way. Can’t wait to see what’s next for Wilson.
Im so glad RC brought up how the head coach had acted throughout the whole season. He needs to be held to account. Players are paying attention to this. Good luck getting free agents, say want you want but the players know Russ is a good dude.
@olyokie he has no obligation to become best friends with his team mates, he has a family and he puts them first just like he should. People don't like him because they feel like he's fake, but I don't feel like he's fake he would be fake if he acted any other way then the nerdy football player he is.
No player should be disrespected and berated by their coach on national tv. This is insane. Keep it professional at all times; the Coach wants to move Russell .Denver will suffer with this Coach big time.
@@Dee-lw8nv Hahaha another divaruss fanboy….. Its always the coach eh? Ya got not one but two HOF coaches dumping russ. But hey Im sure you know way more about ball than Pete or Sean. Your mancrush is showing…..
@@olyokie Pete thought his best days were behind him rather than him being a bad guy. Thus when the Broncos came in with a big package for him it made all the sense in the world to move on from him.
I loved seeing him get knocked out year after year from the playoffs, can’t stand him at all.. it sucks it was at the expense of drew brees and the saints but Payton deserved to lose and he is indeed overrated and a chump in my eyes
@@the_traveling_texan It's more likely Denver will end up 7-10 this season. The new starting quarterback has career marks of 77 completions of 131 attempts for 926 yards with 6 touchdowns and 7 interceptions in four seasons.
As a bronco fan Russ deserves a better team that’s gonna treat him right and that’s gonna lead him in the right direction to win a Super Bowl I wish him nothing but the best in the future 🙌
I can’t even say his name but I’m glad they called out the Broncos HC. There are ways on how you go about things. He knows he can do that to Russ and get away with it.
You don't have to be a Russell fan to realize the Broncos have handled this poorly. Every now and then a team or owners do that. I remember very vividly how Jay Gruden had a press conference where he tore apart RGIII. We all wondered why go public with such harsh and personal criticism. The man was in your locker room. Talk to him man to man. The Broncos should have handled this with Russell's camp privately and say something along the lines of: "this is where we are, this is what we want to do, it's not personal it's business. We want to keep this private and you have the options of responding to this by a, b, and c"
I mean, they did do that, Russ just didn't budge because... he doesn't have to and he has no reason to. It's no advantage to him, and Payton already wanted him gone even before this. Payton is acting extremely petulantly and I hope it costs Denver when they try to sign players in free agency and start having to answer questions like "so why wouldn't he pressure me about my contract if he's fine doing it to the starting QB?"
If this was strictly about winning as Payton said, he would have benched Russ when they still had a real shot at the playoffs weeks ago. And the broncos wouldn’t have approached Russ about restructuring his contract right after after beating the SB contending Chiefs. Russ is an absolute man for keeping this private and letting Payton look like a child.
If Russell Wilson was the one crying about his contract and holding out and threatening to not play until he got a better deal on the contract he signed he would be the bad guy and be absolutely slaughtered by the press and the fans. But since it's the broncos trying to renage on his contract payments (that they signed willingly) it's classed as business and they are not being called out for what they are doing. The double standards here is unbelievable. Russell Wilson should just say fine bench me but your paying me what you owe me.
Most of these fans are jealous that A they can’t play football/have that athletic ability and B that these players get paid millions to do so.. so that’s why they act like that even tho the billionaires own football and make way more, they somehow sympathize with them more.. it’s weird and cringy
@@hallbrawlerspodcast5091 This isn't how you conduct business. You don't threaten a guy with benching just because you don't want to pay him the money AFTER a win. That's classless behavior that will have ripple effects on whether high-value free agents will want to sign with Denver.
@@Jaack303 Then don't * An incompetent* Russ has Mahomes stats right now under a new coach with 1 good receiver and no talented tight ends. That's not incompetent
@@Jaack303 If Wilson is incompetent for those field vision issues (which were well known before they signed them), then that also makes the team management incompetent. I'd argue even more than Wilson, who only took what someone was willing to pay. What kind of football organization doesn't do their scouting due diligence? What makes this a bad move now isn't that they are benching him and likely cutting him. It's the way the organization did it. When you factor in all the missteps over the last few years, the conclusion is that this is just a poorly run organization. They will probably suck just as bad next year and the year after that. I doubt Payton will be able to do much with the cap hit the Broncos will take for the next two years.
I'm not the biggest Russell fan but put some respect on his name he is a class act and definitely dont deserve this bs after turning their whole year around.
@@123slasher.16 Did you see Joe Flacco COMEBACK from Retirement off his couch and put up 37 points on the Jets last night? That what the Broncos were hoping Russ could do.
Think about it this way: Russell Wilson has the same number of TDs as Tua/Patrick Mahomes and is one TD behind Josh Allen/Jared Goff and if you think that the Broncos have better skill players outside of the Chiefs. Classless.
Most people in the comments don't watch the Broncos! Russ brought them back last week from a 16 point deficit and combined with two 2 point conversations to go into overtime! The play calling in OT by Sean Payton was horrible!
26 tds 8 interceptions 98% qb rating with crappy play calling, 70 pt defense vs Miami, but it’s RW’s fault, yes he may fumble but he doesn’t drop passes or give up 70 pts, Pathetic form and bad msg to the other players, if it happens to him, then it could happen to me….go KC, my new team. Pat Bowden would not be happy
With 400 yards and 5 touchdowns worth of drops by Jeudy and Sutton. Sutton is clutch af but he has the most drops on the team, Jeudy is gassed up despite having bricks for hands lmfao
The Denver Broncos are trying to make people forget how double sided they have been. The blatant disrespect they have given to Russel Wilson is absolutely embarrassing. They wanted him and now they are acting like he is a cancer. Embarrassing.
russell has played like trash both years hes been in denver. its so funny to see all the casuals that just look at stats and don’t actually watch the games. it shows
@@jaysonsmith7264You entirely missed the point. This isn’t just about Russel Wilson’s play on the field. This is about how the Broncos gave everything for him KNOWING where he was in his career and now they want to deflect blame and point fingers instead of fixing this in a professional manner.
@@jaysonsmith7264Its funny to see obese dudes on their couch who never played think that their eye test means more than mathematics and stats. By any metric, wilson has been an above average qb.
@MirglipEA Payton is a Bill parcells wanna be Brees got him 1 super bowl and he had four 7-9 seasons and Russ has never been suspended like Payton russ has been to 2 super Bowls and 9 pro bowls
Sean Payton is the biggest reason the Broncos are in this position and if i was Russell Wilson when Sean Payton was yelling at him on the sidelines I would've snapped back at him and called him out after the game because that was so classless of Sean Payton
Is anyone surprised that a coach who incentivized his players to give concussions to other players is acting unprofessionally? With everything we know about concussions now a days and the impact they can have both the person and others around, he shouldn’t even be allowed in the league anymore
RC had a point when he said Sean Payton had the right one. Some other people in Wilson's position would've given Payton a piece of their mind. As for the Chiefs' offense, so many people thought Eric Bieniemy was meaningless to what that unit did, but I think we're seeing that he was very important to what the offense was doing. I doubt we would see so many dropped passes if Bieniemy were still in KCMO.
I like how Stidham stood with russ together as Sean chewed Russ out on the side line. He stood together with russ like "if you're yelling at him in front of everyone then you're yelling at both of us"

@@TampaAries I hear what he's saying, and I agree that Wilson is a classy guy, but what could anyone really do to him without ruining their image/career. If the coach has the power from ownership, you gotta play the game. All these guys have to answer to their coaches and owners.
If i am a qb or any other player, there is no possibility that i would play for this organization. The way he has been treated this entire season is completely unacceptable. Russell has kept his mouth closed the entire time. I think its time he spoke up and said enough is enough
u guys acting like russ is carrying the team and hes getting benched. its crazy. dude has made more money in the past 5 years then u will probably make in ur life. ill never feel bad for him
It's not in the Bronco's best interest to discourage potential free agents, the way they're doing now. Insanity. This was a money move and a reflection of the coach that felt fine throwing a tantrum at a qb he clearly doesn't respect, to drive home the point he made in a number of smaller ways. Russ wasn't his hire or guy. Sean dislikes him. That was illustrated by the kissing babies remark, among others. Good luck, Russ. Here's hoping you find a better home for the remainder of your career. Some place that wants you and will build around your talents, for starters.
Russ stats are way better then they were last season they just needed somebody to blame it’s not like they have a great roster on offense besides sutton
The Waltons treat their employees like they don’t matter … so it’s no surprise that their head coach is allowed to disrespect his players. In the NFL, it’s going to catch up to them, and it feels like this franchise is doomed to be dysfunctional.
I think you're right, the Walton family has built their wealth on the backs of employees used as collateral, and now their coach is disrespectful to team members and bullying their QB. No surprise. I'm sure there are others on the team receiving the same treatment from this coach, but we see it the most around Russ. Payton is obviously insecure, weak, and an above average dirt bag. Russ is a class act that is an asset for any team that recognizes his talent.
Payton has been unhinged the whole season. Everyone remembers what he said about Hackett. Hackett may have been a terrible HC, but you don’t go and make a public statement about it. He is still the coach that paid players to injure others and hasn’t changed.
100%. His attack on Hackett was so over the top unprofessional that you have to question Payton's overall judgment... And his reaming of Russ during the Lions game was absolutely the behavior of an unhinged person.
@@DamonHardin Could be... He had Brees and a lot of good players. He was also aggressive in his play calling, going for it on 4th down etc., before the league caught on to analytics. He deserves much of the blame for the Broncos season. Russ has been solid while Payton's play calling looks as if he wants Russ to fail. Wouldn't surprise me - if Broncos made playoffs Russ is likely back next season and Payton doesn't want that. He really is a quite an arrogant a$$hole...
Ryan Clark is, by far, the best analyst on tv regarding football. He is not politically correct but calls it like it is. I wish there were more of him. The next closest is James Jones, who appears on FS1 at time with Cowherd and Speak.
Since October 22nd (Packers game) they’ve gone 6-3, before that 1-5. Russ did something during that time to bring people together because he’s the leader that they wanted. Dan and RC are 100% right. They’re treating him wrong and disrespecting him
At the simplest level, that's just bad leadership 101. You don't chew out the leader of the team in front of everyone unless you have 0 respect for the man. It's personal and unprofessional.
You act like you have a pulse of the team. You ever think Payton can see how little the other guys respect him? So why are they going to pay $50M/yr to a guy who can't lead this team long-term.
Absolutely agree with them. As a Broncos fan I support and was hoping Wilson will be our QB. He’s a good player and get to much blame for the Broncos losses. Payton’s play calling has been bad some games. Respect to Russell Wilson and hope he stands up to Payton and shows him his fire and competitiveness.
That’s because he hasn’t shown his entire playbook as Russel can’t throw. Sean limited on the playbook due to Russell throwing limitations and seeing the field.
Russell Wilson has been in the league for 12 years and has a $245 million contract. If he's at the line reading the defense and doesn't like the play Hackett sent in, call an AUDIBLE and run the Right play. That's what Great QBs do.
Treat players Professionally. He was addressing or confronting Russell in front of the cameras not caring who saw or heard him .The coach sets the tone for the players and the organization. His behavior and attitudes toward Russell may keep other players from going to play at Denver.
95 yards and 114 yards against the Chiefs is not high level. The only reason they went on a winning streak was because of the defense getting turnovers and playing lights out.
@@jerrman29I think their point is it’s not a good look for an organization to even talk about rescinding or restructuring a contract they negotiated offered and signed. @@RobertTrey-ov1lzCan’t blame the defense for putting up -15 yards against the worst team in the AFC….. Russ was decent but we did win because of defense. Do you know how many times we got the ball at the 50 yard line due to our defense and couldn’t get at the very least a field goal?
@@joewilliams1817 do y'all even have a running game? Is the worst team still the Jets? They have a good defense though and I think the Patriots have the worst record right now. It's a lot of bad teams this year so I can't keep up
Ryan Clark nailed it, when it came to the russell wilson situation, sean payton ain't never talked too Drew Brees like that, matter of fact he can do no wrong as far as sean was concerned
Sean Paton failed here with not going with Wilson. Shows he cant adapt his skill set. He's hired to get the best out of all the players. Peyton could easily bolster the offensive line and late draft a few receiver prospects.
Agree, it is clear that Eric Bieniemy was the man who maintained the discipline on that team and was under valued by the media! Andy Reid may be the Xs and Os genius, but clear he is not the discipline enforcer, Eric was because the Chiefs are imploding because lack of discipline!
Telling Russ that he will be benched if he doesn't void a $37 million injury guarantee from his contract is absolutely fucked. If I'm another player in the league, I would not want to sign with a team that treats their players like this. Sean Payton was a bush league coach in New Orleans and now is a bush league coach in Denver. Also, I have no dog in this fight, I'm a Browns fan.
Payton's racism is showing with the treatment of Russell Wilson, like Ryan Clark said Payton never treated Brees that way & he acted the same as Wilson
Russell Wilson might actually be a good fit on the Broncos rival Las Vegas Raiders. Wilson might be able to pull a Joe Flacco-like come back, by just being consistent. The problem is that he is not all that consistent right now.
Problem too is broncos o line didn't help russ at all either. Ppl on their couches were blaming russ for fleeing too soon but they're on their couch watching on TV. They don't realize how big these lineman are. 6'3 ,6'4,6'5,6'6 and 300 to 350 lbs running ful speed and and landing on you. I'd love to see these couch qbs let this happen just once to them and see if they're gonna be comfortable in the pocket
I’m not a Russell Wilson guy, but I hope he signs with the Raiders (if he doesn’t return to Seattle) and go into the next season with huge chip on his shoulder.
Honestly if we had his numbers at QB this year we would have won at least 2-3 games we’ve already lost. Raiders offense had been so bad in some games, we just needed a QB to do something - anything to make a play.
This show hit the nail on the head. Russell didn’t bow down and they in term hired Payton giving him the go to treat Russell like 💩 in order to run him off and save money.
It's okay to bench him for whatever reason, including a contract clause, but it's not okay to tell him why he's being benched and give him an option to take action to avoid said benching? What a weird take.
Dan is absolutely 100% right! The broncos are acting like Russ have been playing bad all year when his stats are much, much better than last year SMH🤦🏾♂️.
So didn't russ score 2 tds and 2 2 pt conversion to get them back in the game? But 2 players fumbled, one fumbled on the 1 yard line for nearly a td. Smh
As a Dolphins fan that was certainly sharing my share of RW Let's Ride memes last season, he certainly has performed way better this season. I mean, even during the 70-20 game he wasn't terrible and didn't throw 10 pick sixes or anything. I mean bench a guy because he's bad not because he didn't want to change his injury guarantee. Pathetic from the Broncos and Payton.
I can't wait for Payton to be fired! Because players are going to hate him. If you talk to Russell Wilson with that much venom, something is wrong with you. He's a butterfly!
I hope Sean Payton never win another game as a head coach and isn't he the same person that talked bad about Nathaniel Hackett when he became the Broncos coach...so who looks bad now...
A black QB has an average season gets kicked out, a white QB having a horrible season (Mac Jones and Zac Wilson) get chance after chance. Shows that racism is alive and well in the nfl
I wish Russ well in wherever he does, or whatever endeavors he pursues moving forward. Denver seems to never have accepted him, neither did Sean. Imo, Sean is an overrated coach and should be benched right beside Russ.. did Russ deserve some criticism, yes! But not the level of hatred, bashing, personal attacks, and disrespect he endured. Russ deserves better and I pray he has continued success in the future.
He was talking crazy to Russ to get a reaction out of him………. Sean Payton is definitely a THUG……. Chewing out the guy you know won’t say anything to you is wild…..
So you as former players say the way the Broncos handled this is not the NFL way to handle this!??? But when Players hold out because they want more $$ when they are still under a CONTRACT they signed you all are ok with this!?? Players holding teams hostage!! And Mr RC already put his foot in his mouth talking s… about Tua! I might be wrong about this but last I checked it’s an ABSOLUTE privilege to be on an NFL team no matter who you are or what position you play! This is what’s wrong with everything now with sports, give the players all the power and the coaches have 0! Everyone being way too SOFT about everything today! ESPN IS A TOTAL JOKE
Thank you Ryan 🙏🏾🙏🏾he never talk to Brees like these he never talk to that N.O defense like that and they was one of the worst all time get that man out of there
Sean Payton was screaming his head off to a QB that is being threaten to be bench and yet Wilson got the Broncos as a contender in DEC. AND finally beating a KC rival.
Sean Payton a thug👌🏿✅! Is 💯% correct. Thank you Ryan Clarke for calling out Payton. Looking forward to the day a player checks and undresses him like he’s treated Russ this year. Very unprofessional. It’s not like Payton’s the second coming of Lambardi.
This is why I was 100% in support for George Pickens. A team can tank the whole season or games, and the mainstream media will just make jokes. But, when a player decides to tank a play to avoid injury and protect his worth, then there is mainstream media and fan-base referendum on that player as a human being even outside the football field. The common people will ALWAYS support the master over other commoners. LOL
It’s pretty obvious that Sean Payton clearly didn’t like Russell Wilson because he’s not the qb he picked and Russell Wilson hasn’t even been bad this season has he been worth his contract you can argue no but at the end of the day you can clearly see that these franchise don’t care about the players if they can use you as scapegoat they will.
I think it’s funny that Sean is getting all this hate for how he treated Russ when the whole league was clowning Russ last year. Not saying he treated him fairly but Russ was getting a new level of hate from the whole league and Sean’s comments weren’t scrutinized at the time
