Assisted by our members and supporters, Ormskirk and District Family History Society (registered charity no. 1004895) have compiled a second collection of photographs showing Ormskirk and some of the surrounding villages in our area of interest.
Our Society is keenly interested in the social side of history, and in exploring and documenting the lives of people who lived, worked and enjoyed their leisure time in West Lancashire. In this collection, we’ve been able to bring church choirs, Rose Queens, prize-winning vegetables, shop window displays, street scenes, processions, shows, fairs and local dignitaries together in one video.
We hope you enjoy this chance to look back at West Lancashire as it was during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

I was in the retinue for the Festival of Britain Rose Queen in 1951. We had to walk round in a hall to be chosen. The hall stood where Ormskirk Bus Station is now.

That's a really interesting detail, thank you. I'm not sure how many of our members know about that hall - I certainly didn't - but it's brilliant to find out more about how it all worked, and how everyone was chosen.

@@odfhs I have checked out the hall I mentioned with my friend who also remembers it. It was called The Institute.
