Fun day with soaring at the beach and seeing antique hang gliders fly! Includes: Flying the Icarus and Voyager Joe Greblo, John Heiney, and Roy Haggard soaring the Condor 330
The guy with the Wills Wing got it licked! As an R/C slope flyer and licensed private pilot, this just gives me goosebumps and sets my soul free. This is flying, powered by mother nature.
Did not show a close captionning of the manouvers going on on the levers...but thank you so much any way was gorgous ! Hope one day i will do it at least for a couple minutes in my life.
John came over where I landed (point. SLC) and said " you know you have four little boys.....) Blown out. Coulda got hurt bad. I did get to fly torrey and he took a lot of pics from above. Nice guy. Professional.100%.
reminds me of flying art Torrey Pines, in San Diego, where the air is smooth and you can literally fly all day long. My personal best was 8 1/2 hrs. Great place to fly.
Such a treat to see the day's of '74 - I built an Icarus II from a kit put together by Larry Muro in Cupertino, had dinner with the Kiceniuk's at their home at the Palomar Observatory and was a club officer of UFO in San Diego. We used to travel the the dunes at Canamar in Baja to teach beginners - Thanks for posting this. Good times.
In Germany near Nürburgring racetrack there is a small village named "Dockweiler".... They fly these things there too, not at the beach, but at the edge of a volcanic crater. It is interesting, that the have "Dockweiler" too!
The huge bagged out raven is the only thing that has the sink rate to soar that tiny ridge, in spite of the fact that by the sound of it the wind is blowing over fifteen or twenty MPH.
Amazing. Such a small dune. And the basic rogallos stayed up and even landed on top whereas the two high performance gliders, Fledge and Icarus 5 went to the landing zone!
Good to see Californians Celebrating the true pioneer of Flight - Otto racked up well over 300 flights well before the wright brother / Wright bros credited rightly as solving the power to weight challenge (outside USA) of powered flight - Were NOT the first to Fly -
No one said the Wright brothers were first to fly. They were the first to achieve coordinated controlled flight. They invented the 3 axis control system.
@@oneskydog4401 correct they invented the tail plane - but if you go to North Carolina , you will see number plates "First in flight" which is not correct - so clearly some education is lacking !
@@donliddard What is it? Looks like a single surface. I used to fly a white Wills Wing sport when Dan Skadaal would loan it to me (My glider was too big for me, so he took pity on me)
Tudor Renegade I believe they call that the “easy riser” it’s primitive but it was quite popular back in the day. Watch the movie “fly away home” that’s a powered version of it.
It's a shame there isn't much of a slope at Dockweiler, probably enough for an RC glider, but doesn't seem to be enough for hang gliders. I can remember when there used to be more spots up and down the California coast to fly both: Saltcreek in Laguna, The Strand in Dana Point, The point at Crystal Cove, etc... Now everything is built out and shut out, nothing but fences with No Trespassing signs.
My beautiful seagull 3 would love to soar there. He's been on the ground for too many years now and the stitching is probably shot, but what a gorgeous glider from back in 1973. Anybody want to resurrect him?
@@Riotdrone eventually if you are able to at all that is. You can control your dreams. I can fly anytime I want. Manifest anything I feel like and construct my dreams as I please. It's rather easy. Especially when having a bad dream or nightmare. If you can force your eyes open during a nightmare and get really good at it. Then you can instead of forcing your eyes open you realize you're in a dream and can start to change it. At first it's really hard to stay asleep once you realize but little by little you can hone this skill.
That was surprising to me that the white Rogelio type design had the best performance. I expected the flying wing (can't recall the name of that, just the special wing tip control) to perform better... thanks Laurie Carroll New Zealand
Is Joe Greblo the guy who used to go by the nickname "Hang Czech"? I used to fly hang gliders, many years ago. I still have my Bennett Pro-Air 180 hanging in my rafters (Toys in the attic?). I'm heavy enough to fly it now - back in the mid 1980's, I was a bit too light for it, but managed just fine.
That first glider design was cool I saw one like it on RU-vid before, but it was constructed from composite. Does anyone know the name of the manufacturer of this type?
