As all of us OU fans are excited about a new season, let's also give appreciation to Mr. Macintosh these weekly highlights... Always amazing. Thank you. If I watch the game or not, I always come here for his highlights..
after watching this again it was not as bad as a lot of pundits thought. I looks like we kicked too many field golds. get things cleaned up field golds become TD's. I'm always amazed how we always have a great kicker. I've been watching OU for over 60yrs and I cannot remember a bad kicker. We were one of the first teams to have a soccer style kicker when everyone else was kicking straight on. So everyone cheer up.
After watching the game a few times yeah the D technically gave up 35 but they played well for a good chunk of the game Tulane got us misaligned and confused on assignments with formations and motions they didn't run last year and besides those first 2 drives it wasn't until late in the Third that their offense got going and that was with short fields after the turnovers and that onside recovery , I put more blame on the Offense only 3 points in the second half and couldn't eat any clock plus the turnovers giving Tulane momentum these second half collapse always start with the offense sputtering but i think like last year its all fixable mistakes thankfully we have non conference to work them out this year
@@lexingtonconcord8751 I’m not say we almost lost because of our receivers. Im saying jordan haselwood is our best WR and he can make some plays if we can pass him the ball more.
We had some issues. Hopefully just week 1 issues. I think we can regroup and rebound but we need a consistent defense and our offense needs to score or wast time, but they can’t do a 1-minute drive and barely move the ball. Also, I get we need to keep guys fresh but we can’t keep rotating that many guys on defense, it doesn’t allow some to get in a groove. Also, give the ball to Brooks more. And Rattler needs to calm down and run the offense. But we had all these issues last year at the beginning so I believe we figure it out and prove that we are a top team next week. Thanks for reading my rambling!
It’s amazing how many games we’re able to win by only playing 1,2, or (if we’re lucky) 3 quarters. Imagine how good we’ll be when we play all 4 quarters!
@@soonerborn7603 yea at the time I blamed mike stoops. Reasonably so, he was horrendous and played a pass defense against a running team in the 2nd half and never moved off of it. But Lincoln had his fair share of bad calls and an inability to get 3rd and 5s. We’re honesty better at 3rd and 15 just based off of play calling. Lincoln is a genius when it comes to drawing up plays and getting people open, but that creativity sometimes cost him when a simply quick slant would get the job done.
Reggie grimes played really well too, Redmond and Winfrey were doing well when they were on the field too. DJ graham was spotty but he showed some great stuff
@@BigSizzle88 maybe but the guys i listed were just consistent, you would see them near the guy with the ball everytime. i also believe DJ graham has potential to be our best CB
Mr. Mac thank you as always for the recap. man did we get a scare from Tulane. I mean we rolled-out the red carpet and even forfeited the ticket sales thinking they have been through a lot but little did we know they were straight gangsters who socked us and came at us like we were sworn enemies. If there is one thing and that is we cannot let feelings get in the way in this game ... gotta be brutal and be no quarters given to the end ... but then its nothing new!
The lack of motivation was obvious, on both sides of the ball. The lack of discipline and focus as well. I think because both of our first games were supposed to be cupcakes, the players started looking ahead. Every great team (except for Bama lol) has a few meh games in the season. We will get these issues sorted out
Looked like the 08 defense trying to cover TEs. O-line will be better. I think Rattler got dinged on that dive attempt. He was high &/or behind the rest of the way after that. D-line got bullied too much for my taste, but I don't expect to see that much from here on out. But as I always say, an ugly win is better than a pretty loss.
@@seanoconnor2046 What?! I was directly backing up your point. We won, but we shouldn’t have looked so bad. It was a win, but almost feels like a loss.
The plays that work look as easy as they should have. We need to get Hasselwood the ball a lot more. Defense was close on a lot of misses but close isn’t gonna work in most games. All hope is not lot lost. Boomer.
Everyone needs to keep in mind, you don't blow out a team that's just been affected by a hurricane. Defense was a little loose but offense wasn't trying in the second half, they had been living in suit cases for a week they didn't even have enough clothes for said week, Lincoln Riley was compassionate and didn't destroy them.
@@RylzMunkister they scored 37 points with no resistance from their defense in the first half, Rattler had 240 yards in the first half and less than 100 in the second half, you really think they just had fallen apart in the second half on offense? No they took their foot off the gas as to not slaughter them, the hit Pratt over 20 times they sacked him like 5 times. They literally weren't trying on offense and were just going for the QB on defense. It's not horrible execution they were doing exactly what they were told. The absolute second the defense needed a stop they allowed 0 yards in that drive, and the offense started moving the ball 6+ yards per play to keep the ball from them. If you think Lincoln Riley just stopped being able to call offense you're an idiot. Lincoln showed them mercy due to their circumstances. But he wasn't gonna let them win that wasn't an option.
@Mike Hawk they got outplayed? They scored 37 points in one half and OU defense held their offense to -6 yards in the second quarter the only reason they scored in the 1st half is cause Spencer was a little too ambitious in the first quarter and threw two picks in three drives. So you really think it was them getting outplayed, after you look at the stats (not the score) of each side of each half? They only threw the ball on second down 1 time in the 2nd half the entire second half was running on first and second down. They hit Pratt +20 times and sacked him 5+ times. They had 100 yards of rushing total 216 passing yards, OU had no less than a 80% win probability the entire game. There was no chance Tulane beat OU, OU simply went soft as to not bury a team that just went through a disaster. Kentucky pummeled ULM they ALSO did nothing but run in the second half after being up as high as they were after the first half. LSU was actually a challenge for UCLA so they didn't go soft, Texas also went soft against Louisiana-Lafayette in the fourth after the game was sealed.
