Taking waves over the bow! We were hammered on our way to the Berry Islands Bahamas! We checked into the Bahamas at the West End and immediately made tracks to The Berry Islands. The passage was rough but we arrived to a beautiful harbor!

I'm proud of you guys. Finally arriving at a dream destination such as the Bahamas your own sailboat is a milestone that has been very, very well earned - especially to have been done on a budget and with 2 kiddos and a pup. People who haven't done it can't appreciate the truly massive amount of hard work, dedication, and tenacity required to stay the course and complete such a monumental task. This lifestyle is both extremely rewarding and extremely demanding at the same time, and for you to be able to handle it successfully and as a tight family unit says alot about the quality of people you are both individually and collectively. Good on you guys. Here's to many more miles under the keel, smiles, and fantastic memories to be made aboard the good ship, Ohana. -Ben

Congrats on making it to The Berry's, one of the nicest chain of islands in the Bahamas. Not sure if you spent anytime in Bullock Harbor and it's abandoned 1950-60's popular resort that hosted the Rat Pack. Amazing how things can change or go in and out of favor. The Beach Club is one of only a few restaurants in the Berrys, and Shark Creek, I understand, does/did have a lot of juvenile sharks- kind of a nursery. If you have a long selfie stick, shots from relatively high in the air showing the surroundings can serve as a "drone" shot and shows us landlubers what we are missing. Viewers always like to know where you are (island/cay, bay) in various shots, even if it's just momentary text, makes us want to be there as well. Enjoy the rest of the Berrys and future Bahamas locations.

re weather in the Bahamas. I normally check 3-5 sources of wind,wx,waves etc and at times they are all wrong. Get used to it! Keep plugging along. You'll get better. It just takes time. Never let your guard down.

Not sure why I'm not receiving notifications... but... this is great guys!!!! You and spoondrifter must be timing your trips together 😂😂 they got into Tampa at night as well... lol. So glad to see you, the wife and kids are enjoying life!!!

Thanks Rob! Spoondrifter is a few more weeks behind than we are. They are actually in the Bahamas also. They are meeting with family for a couple weeks so that will have them stationary around Nassau but we hope to connect with them after that. We’ve been with Sailboat story and another boat since we got here. We’ve had some amazing moments. We need to figure out your notifications. I think YT turns them off at random. 🤷‍♂️ I hope you and Victoria/family are doing well. Settling into Georgia. 😊

Why is this my new favourite thing???? Plus I have this brand new toaster that I got but for some reason it just won’t burn the bread as much as I would like it to. I guess I could always keep pressing the toast down until it’s burnt to my satisfaction, but I am usually quite busy so I don’t have time to stand around a dang toaster and keep pushing toast down. This is why I would have preferred my new toaster to be slightly more powerful. You guys changed my life seriously I love you

One forecast observation I found is: if the weather service keeps changing the forecast, it usually means the weather systems are unstable and the weather system changes before the models can keep up. No idea if this is the situation you folks were in, but i guess one sails the wind they have.

Supper cool. My wife and I are about 5 years out from making that jump to quitting our stable professional jobs and taking the plung to live aboard cruisers and traveling. We are attempting it before the age of retirment and Its scary yet exciting as we get closer. We want to be young enough to still enjoy it, and we are hoping 50 is still young enough as well as long enogh to have created some financial stability to allow us the oppurtunity to go out and enjoy it. We have planned, saved, researched, and set deadlines and time frames, yet no matter how much you plan, you just never really know. I, like you and probably many others, use RU-vid expeirences and tips to help me better plan and I thank you for sharing it with us. I especially enjoyed the refit portion (mainly batteries) of your boat as I will not be able to afford something completely fitted and ready to go. I will have to do it myself. I'm also wondering will you guys at some point be sharing expenses with us? I realize each cruiser has their own needs therfore expenses will be different for everyone, but it still gives me a general round about idea of what to expect. Thank you again, your journey so far appears on its surface to be closest to what ours would be and am eager to see what is next.

Hi Brandon, thanks so much for reaching out. We have more information on patreon about our batteries and I’m about to make a new post again about our real world off grid experiences with our batteries and other systems. Spoiler, their working great! What sort of information are you looking for regarding finances? We share many details as we go but we’ve never done a full synapses of it. We are very happy to help, reach out anytime! Cheers, Corey

Living the dream!!! Could you have been nose plowing into the waves because you had only the jib up, instead of the main?
@SaltyEscape
@SaltyEscape Год назад
No, we didn’t have any sails up. The wind died around sunset and we rolled in the sails. Wind was low and intermittent so we didn’t put them back up.
@patrickjames1080
@patrickjames1080 Год назад
Regarding plowing into the waves, take them at an angle - bin there.
@SaltyEscape
@SaltyEscape Год назад
Yes, agree. We did change our angle but it seemed to make it worse and there were other factors.. we couldn’t see the waves, if we changed course we would have had to endure it longer and we had ships calling us to change course to avoid collision (even though they were miles away). Continuing our course and weathering it was the only option.

@@SaltyEscape thanks -yep - that's alot of factors. No moon sailing in traffic - take the beating 👍

Love seeing your family take on the sailing adventure! We’re so impressed with your humility, self-reflections, and continued quality of content. And….we love seeing your Patron list grow! Fair winds from sv_cunamara. P.s. - Be sure to meet Expedition Evans - they’re both lovely (and their dogs are great too).
