Love this, I've been making breads in jars since I was 5 years old, we still do and I'm 61- Not Rebel canning- just normal in our neck of the woods! I don't use shortning- we us Lard, Real Butter our Tallow... while we've had a couple jars on the shelves for 2-5 years and they were great! We've rarely had any last more than about 6-7 months... Blessings ❤ Keep sharing!

That's cool. Lard or Tallow is better for you anyways than shortening...Im amazed there are homesteaders or home canners still using shortening...that stuff is very bad.

I clean houses for a living, and one year for Christmas gifts I made pumpkin and apple breads in jars like this, I left the rings on and put a length of twine and a brown paper tag on it! My people loved them 💕

Next time open up both ends completely. Then remove the lid from one end. Flip it upside down and use the lid. On the other end to push it out. I do this all the time with my tomato paste works like a charm

I grew over 300 pounds of pumpkins this year and I’ve been making a lot of pumpkin bread. I have an old Betty Crocker cookbook. I recited the ingredients as you put them in there because that is exactly the same as in my Betty Crocker cookbook.

Yess, I remember raisins in it too. Toasted a must and lots of butter 😂 cream cheese would make it taste good, but not good enough for 9.00 dollars 😂 I think it was over the pandemic when it went up on the price.

@@Stoffmonster467I don't think you put the lids on till you take the jar out of the oven. Only take out 1 jar at a time and immediately apply the lid and band.
@Stoffmonster467
@Stoffmonster467 5 месяцев назад
@@soyoucametosee7860 Yes, I know. Weck recommends baking and canning in two steps. This means baking bread, sorry. We have rubber bands between lid and jar, and they can cause problems with that method. It's still possible, but I don't like it. Canning in the oven is more than taking jars out and close them immediately after.

Home made bakers joy: equal parts of flour, crisco and liquid vegetable oil. Mix thoroughly. I use half cup of each and store in a wide mouth pint jar. Use a Pastry brush to paint a layer inside whatever pan you're baking in. Works fabulously!

You cannot imagine how excited I am to learn about this! I'm learning about commercially sold flour vs. freshly milled, and I love the fresh milled lifestyle. Tons of health benefits, but also the drawback that when you create food from living ingredients, it spoils much more quickly. I have to try this - thank you so much for inspiring me!

Most people don't know how to open lids and be able to use them to can once again. You read that right!!! Use the ring edge and guide it along the top edge of the jar where the ring would go and slide it to the edge of the last ring of glass. Push up left and right like a wiggle and if you listen you will here the sound of a sealed jar. The lid might have a slight "ding" which can be corrected by rolling that spot on the corner of the kitchen sink making it smoothed out again. This will not work with a large ring on a wide mouth jar... so grab a regular mouth ring to open those wide mouth jars or a butter knife. You can also use a butter knife and go slow and easy and save those jars lids to re-can or vacuum seal jars NO MORE PRIED OFF LIDS tossing out lids!!!

@@judik8860 most likely not ‘authentic’ but… 1 cup All Bran cereal (the nuggets), 1 cup milk, 1 cup raisins, 1/2 cup dark brown sugar, and 1 cup self raising flour ( or substitute). I googled traditional recipes and they used rye flour, baking soda and molasses so….mix the All Bran and milk and let sit until absorbed then add sugar raisins and flour. Steam or bake.
