Over the counter microwave removal is quite easy. There are a few items to be aware of to make the process easier and safer as shown with this Panasonic NN-P295 model. Over the range microwave removal to other brands will be similar with the main differences being the support bracket design and venting outlet.
Please note... Not all built in & over the cooktop microwaves are vented to an exterior duct; some will just recirculate the exhaust air back into the kitchen through carbon filters within the microwave if the installer didn't want to bother with exterior venting and/or exterior venting is not a requirement to conform to the building code in your area. In short, don't get totally freaked out if you remove your over the range microwave and find it has no external venting. Getting a little freaked out is sufficient because most building codes do require it, and it's by far the best method to remove cooking odors & humidity.

Thanks for posting the unedited video, including surprise moment where microwave did not rotate out as expected, and your finding of the ducting piece that blocked it. Turned out that was the surprise I also encountered. Your video gave me the clue. I looked for and found where the ducting blocked the rotation. I used a thin metal yardstick to pop it out of the way and the microwave was immediately free to move. Thanks again.

So glad I found this video as my husband and I have to replace our over the range microwave today. Will update my comment with the results. This was one of the first videos that came up, and it looks incredibly easy to follow.

Great tips on microwave removal! I can't wait to get rid of our piece of "bleep" Best part of the video is you and the lady working together, cussing a bit but loving it a bit too!

This was helpful. Putting down something on the cooktop was a good tip, BUT make sure you don't accidentally move the burner knobs while jostling around with the microwave! We burnt 2 towels.

@Rchelicopterfun 3 года назад
Yep, that's a great & important tip. I never even thought of that because this cook top is induction so it won't burn anything if it accidently gets powered on, but for other types of cook tops that actually produce heat - yes very good tip to ensure it's turned off/locked or turn off the circuit breaker or gas line.

On my Kenmore microwave hood combo, there is a lever you pull after you remove the top two mounting bolts. This releases a latch holding the microwave to the mounting plate. Had to look through an ancient install procedure to find out this secret.

Where is the lever? Currently stuck on this

@@dre6036 It has been a few years, but it seems the lever has located on the upper left hand side. As I mentioned, I had to go on line for an old owners manual. Good Luck…Mike

Thanks, your video helped me figure out why ours was stuck. Problem is I can't access the two screws on either side of the duct adaptor, they're covered by the bottom of the cabinet. Any suggestions?

Perhaps drilling two access holes in the cabinet bottom to get to those screws???

Just make sure your microwave is mounted on a sliding bracket before you pull those screws. Many aren't, and when the screws come out it's going to go crashing onto your stovetop. You might want to mention that...

I do mention it @2:58 I also mention and show having a big blanket/cushion under the unit just in case.
