I love how the tire carrier acts as "security" for the traction boards. It's little pieces of brilliance and forward thinking that separate the good from the great. It's all in the details.

Been building the generic JKU overland build. Fridge, 270 degree awning, rooftop tent and trasharoo. I love my rig but you’re making me very jealous, absolutely love your creativity and drive! You’re inspiring me to be more creative and hands on.
@DirtLifestyle
@DirtLifestyle 3 года назад
Thank you! I'm glad to hear you are enjoying the videos. I think there is still alot of room for innovation with the "typical" JK overland build. I bet you could come up with some ideas that no one has used in one of those builds if you brain storm enough. It's at least a great excuse to get out into nature, sit around a campfire and bounce ideas off of good company. Either way, thank you very much for watching and for the positive comment!

Swing arm set up makes lots of sense! If I recall correctly, the tailgates open to the passenger side so they aren't opening into traffic. Not so much a problem on the trail but something to keep an eye on if in the city 👊

This looks pretty beefy. Gonna be sweet to see the end result. The coolest latch I've seen for a bumper tire carrier so far has to be a bumper I saw where the guy pulled out the door lock from a truck and welded it into a little frame on the bumper. You swing the carrier closed and it auto latches just like a door and pull on a knob and it opens like a door. Was pretty slick.

As always, another fine job. This video, with the pivot on the left side has inspired me to do something similar to the camper I pull behind my Jeep. The camper will get a left side but also wrap around the corner pivot which will allow me to add our tent around the perimeter of the back of the camper. The Disco is looking great. Thanks

I just purchased the same EMS kit 2 weeks before your last video. Glad I waited to start my build! I am building off the drivers side also, barn doors on my Burb so sides don't matter that much. But I want to keep the tire out of sight as much as possible so it's going far drivers and jerry can going on the passenger side. Keeps the bulk of the weight closer to the hinge to help prevent breakage from leverage. I was also planning on going 180* out and having a table flip down.

With my first child I didn't have the chance to try this but now with the second, this has been a terrific discovery! It does indeed distribute the baby weight in a better way. I was thinking, also, that the latch you welded on has a deeper latch, and even if the lever were to trip, the bar would have a much more difficult time coming out from behind the latch, but you're putting a lock on it, but if someone ever forgot to put the lock back on in a hurry, it still would be difficult to come out from behind the latch you welded on. You have spent a lot of time, not to mention labor and material, building this to be an overland vehicle. You've really done some great work on this, Nate!
@joshvanriet5445

Gonna need more than a padlock in tacompton... Also think you should drill out some holes in your "accessory mount" tube. Kinda like the jackstands so you can just use the pin to help secure whatever you end up building to put there. Plus side is then you can have a few different interchangeable accessory options as well.

I built a fold out/hinged table on my swing out bumper 5 or 6 years ago on my old 4runner, it was great having all of the extra "counter" space. I didn't really have any issues having it permanently attached to the swingout, I'd highly suggest permanently mounting it so you don't have to deal with putting it on and off every time you hit camp.
