Overview of the Umerex HDX 68 Pump-Action Shotgun & the rest of the Home Defence Range - the HDS 50 pistol, the HDR 50 revolver and the HDR 68 double barrel shotgun.
I think that the team at Umarex (engineers, marketing, designers) was brilliant in its collective approach to giving people what they wanted, and what they have been asking for, for many years. The HDR series is undeniably the best non-lethal Home Defense range of weapons that are READY TO GO at a moments notice. That fact that a co2 cartridge can be loaded but not gassed until you are ready to fire, with a simple push to pierce the cartridge. And that fact that kits to increase Jules and FPS, not to mention steel destructor ammo is available? Man oh man that was BRILLIANT. I bought my best friend the HDR 68 double barrel for Christmas, but also because he owns four restaurants and his employees were attacked by a deranged customer one evening. There was no way to defend themselves. One female employee tried to but was beaten up. Now that restaurant has the HDR non-lethal option. They also have a homeless problem at the two downtown locations. (California) yup... I am buying me the T4E HDR 50 and the HDR 68 double barrel soon for myself.
I have the HDX .68 16J in the UK. I also have the Glock .43 pistol too! I want the HDS .68 now as well... I know its only 2 shot and 7.5J in the UK but it just looks ridiculous. And who doesnt love ridiculous toys?!
Informative. Thanks. I send a lot of these related clips to some friends of mine.(American, BTW) They have records from 10-15 years ago, so they can’t own actual firearms and they can’t afford the time and paperwork to get their rights restored. They’re good, hard-working people; just did some bad stuff right out of high school and are still dealing with it in their mid-30’s. Hard-working family men who are worried about protecting their families when they can’t even own a handgun.
@@dafuqtv3554 Black powder revolvers can be loaded with multiple rounds. I've got an old civil war antique Colt .44 six-shooter in working condition that's been handed down in my family. It was carried during the war by an ancestor who was a surgeon for the union army.
I bought the 40J version of this beast and man, it's a dream come true for me. I love it! It is definitely loud and I was expecting the po po to show up after the first test. I'm in love with that shotgun. PS: I believe you should insert the speed loader the other way around, mate. Cheers! Stay safe and sound.
I got the 16 joule version of the double barrel and although it works fine with the rubber balls, more often than not the paint balls burst in the barrel. Not so with the 7 joule version.
Ok, so I saw that video too and I'm hoping you can clarify something for me. I bought this thing, now it won't come until December and I live in the US so I can have whatever I want on this. It's my understanding that you can make the 16j into the 40j monster via an adapter that allows you to screw on the 88 gram co2. The only downside being that the 40j version doesn't have the quick piercing system so its constantly pressurized Is that right? Its just an adapter or is the 40j a totally different system than the 16j? I couldn't find anyone selling the 40j, even in the US, so I bought the 16j. Which I'm fine with, but because I'm insane I'd like to find a way to make it into the 40j, which will make it shoot 560fps then take out the regulator like they have in the HDS (assuming that the hdx has the same system)and make it shoot 590 if such a mod is possible.
@@TD-sp8ks You'll most likely have to modify the insides of the gun, I would guess the release valve, to turn up its power. 2x12 gram vs 88 gram CO2 really only affects the shot count, which would be extremely small with 2x12 grams on the full power 40J version, which is most likely the reason they don't sell them with those adapters as a stock option.
@@goofy851 actually the 16j version has the adapter. Now I don't have mine yet so I can't confirm but the part where you put the 2 co2 in the butstock comes off, you thread the 88gram cartridge right into the housing that the black tube adapter goes into. If this is it I'll let you know once I get mine but no internal mods are necessary. Its plug (or unplug in this case) and play.
Thanks for the observation. Just to confirm that I do my videos without a script and all my comments are straight from the hip so to speak. With the case for this video as I was covering 4 of the HDR range I was juggling a lot info in my head whilst concentrating on filming. I’ll try not to erm and arr in future vids but if I do so, you’ll know it’s because my comments are straight from what I’m thinking rather then my taking time to write a script and I try and do my vids in one take, so I don’t do multiple edits to get the thing right. I prefer that so you the viewer get the live honest approach from the vids I record .
You think the 40j is enough for home defense? Because 7.5 and 11j they wont feel a thing if they re wearing a leather or puffer jacket.. any type of winter jacket really
Thanks for the comment. Unfortunatley I don't know the retailers in the US apart from Airguns of Arizona. Maybe contact them to see if they can order one for you?
I use my iPhone 12 Pro Max then upload straight to RU-vid. Rather than film and then edit, I like to capture everything in one take, so people can see I haven’t edited content to adjust the truth of what I’m presenting
I have many years ago and yes having been hit, proper close up and in parts that really still hurt! In the vid I actually meant for sure I wouldn’t want to be hit by a .68 rubber ball… just came out wrong
@@zubysan fair point well made. I've been hit with reballs (soft rubber practice balls) at 10 ball/second, during training, and wouldn't wish it on anyone!
What is good about the hdx, and the reason I bought it was the.68 ammo is easier to find than. 43 or.50. I plan on using mine as part of a two-tiered home defense system so finding. 68 pepperball is easier than finding those other types of rounds. This comes in handy if you have other less lethal weapons such as the grimmburg, the mission, or the byrna allowing you to use 1 type of ammo for multiple platforms. it holds 16 rounds making it clearly superior to the HDS of only 2. If you get crafty the shotgun is only limited by your imagination and whatever you can fit inside of a .68 ball...birdshot,bbs, thumbtacks. at 16j it'll shoot it at around 300fps which is more or less the velocity of your standard paintball guns. The 40j will hit at around 500fps, and I'm sure some dude will be posting a video of him making it shoot 600fps. At that speed whoever's in front of you, even with a non lethal gun, is just plain fucked.
@@TD-sp8ks I found .43 ammo for my Glock 17, both rubber ball and steel riot ball versions pretty quickly on Amazon and Ebay. I carry my .43 as an EDC, but once I get the HDX it will be used for home defense unless I'm at work, in which case it will be secured in a gun rack in my vehicle.
@@dafuqtv3554 I can find .43 cal, but the general availability is far, far less than the popular 68 cal, that's all I was saying. You carry a .43 for daily carry? Do you live in the US? I'm only asking because I'm not sure that's a good idea. So I have my CCW which is a Smith and Wesson MP shield chambered in 380. It's a good, light gun, but if you're planning on using your gun youd better be in a situation where you can guarantee the other dude doesn't or maybe shoot first because if someone sees that and they pull a real gun and you pull the pepper gun you are probably going to die. Unless by some miracle you hit em square in the eyeball with it and they're in so much pain they drop their gun.....this is unlikely but possible. Don't get me wrong I love my pepper ball gun. Ok, its sweet but it's my camping, light home deterrent gun...for the homeless riffraff that trespassing my property- I dont needto kill them I just wanted off my porch and shit so a pepperball to them is pretty effective....its not my home invasion gun which is AR15, with a 100rd drum. So just be careful, dont bring a knife to a gunfight or a pepperball or pretty much anything except for a gun. People are fucking insane and they're only getting crazier so just be careful.
I know, I’ve seen some of the crazy ft Ibs of some of the rifles in other countries. But we always have the option to get a Fire Arms Certificate to allow us access, but that is obviously a strict and monitored process
I feel the same. I have a .25 cal Seneca that puts out just under 100 fpe. And I'm looking at picking up the AEA Zeus pretty soon, which hits around 1100 fpe, if I recall correctly.
I have been playing paintball since from the age of 13 I'm now 33. You absolutely don't know what you're missing it's some of the best most intense game play on Earth. I'm looking into these for force on Force training basically shooting at each other with paintball guns. Nice review I got quite a few Chuckles man it's pretty funny you British talking about these paintball guns like this. .68 caliber paintballs do hurt especially when shot in the legs, back and butt. Now a .68 caliber rubber ball or the harder materials with hurt most people. Some people might get so blindingly mad after getting shot and they might just kill you. So make them count like face shots
got that HDR 50 revolver, the HDR 68 double barrel , the T4E SG68 shotgun and the HDX 68 (40J ) shotgun . Altough the T4E is less powerfull ( 16 J ) then the HDX it is easier to reload , especially in stressy situations .
Damn that would be good for places like here in uk but if you shot someone braking in with that here in uk police would be arresting you on firearms charges
I have all the t4e modules except for the hdr 68, I like the 50 cal better, more fps! But would like,e to know if they'll hold together with 2200 psi coming out the regulator on hpa?
Nice review. But only one that's practical in my view is HDR50/HDR68 which can be carried as side arm and complement actual shotgun or rifle that you carry in self defense situation
In most states, walking around with a Shottie in public, Less Lethal or not, will get you in a lot of trouble. I keep my 40 Joules HDX at home for home defense and I use my LTL Bravo as my EDC when I'm out and about.
I got the HDR 50 and HDS 68, impressed with those, and fantastic build quality, so i really would like the pump action to add to my collection, when i can afford one !
I bet over here in the states someone is thinking of a way to remove that CO2 cylinder and put a HPA cylinder on it and make over a hundred ft lbs with lead .68 caliber round ball for our way of home defense!
Absolutely they can. I’ve been making sure that my backstop is filled with old plastic bags, so when I fire into it, the bags capture the ammo so I can reuse it. Different story I think if you’re shooting cans or something where the ball gets dirty; I wouldn’t want to reload something damaged or dirty into my gear
Painful in what way? Happy to work on constructive criticism; after all these vids are done in my spare time and as a hobbyist who wants to pass on my experience to others..
@@zubysan Painful in NO way, friend. Much appreciation for your work, and for the information. Of course, now I have to track down the 40J version, since I live in the States...
I'm really annoyed that Umarex is making that other shotgun without pump-action. Since it's based on the SPAS-12 I would have thrown my money at it immediately. Still hoping to pick up one of these in the future.
@@zubysan Canadians want the pump shotgun but COVID made finding non sic workers to make enough to satisfy us very difficult... Well wait....hurry up...lol...
Ordered mine in July as a pre-order and paid in full. Still waiting for delivery with the ETA going from September to late December! Where did you get yours from?
@@TourettesShitAnd now it's approximately July of 2024 if they don't delay it again for a sixth time. I ordered mine from Less-LethalDefense last December and got it within 2 weeks.
@@zubysan oh no i grew up with guns the thing is awesome and i love that... but just like i instinctively wanna smack people when that happens but yes it is a beautifully realistic looking paintball gun and i think the fact its for "home defence" is why it looks like that
@@zubysan im in the country Durham area mate.. I done a little research and I have now found a paintball shop that sells them near me.. But thanks for the reply mate..
Hey bro, great video. FYI, you're popping the loading tool in the wrong way around is all. Flip it round and line up the protrusion with the 'invent' in the breech. Sits perfectly then and loading is easy. Took me a while to figure it out!!! The instructions are pretty vague, right?
Many thanks my friend! Your right about the instructions as they’re images and brief. I was following the arrow markers on the device but there aren’t any in/around the indent in the breech. Typical! Lol. Thanks for the kind words and please keep posted :)
@@zubysan Most welcome buddy!! I can also tell you, that after testing a few different ammo types that the Umarex Powerballs (Blue) are the best performing and most reliable. I do have some of their cheaper Polyballs to run though, so I will let you know 😎
@@zubysanvery late to the party lol, but are you still enjoying the HDX? Has it developed any issues or does it still fire like it did out of the box. I bought the 40 Joules version this past December here in the US so I'm curious how yours has held up the past 2 yrs. Also just a thought, but I put a thin line of acrylic paint on the end of my loading clip and it helped me to see which way to insert it each time.
@@danielquesnel130 there are currently no Federal Firearms Laws, (or “FFL’s”) for pneumatic guns or compressed-air operated weapons of any kind. The U.S. has no federal laws regarding the sale, possession or use of Air-Guns.
@@timothy7172 sorry i can't .I thought I found it once while surfing-Anyways just try buying online 16 OR 40 jule markers you can't.Maybe its a new york law not federal since i live in new york.I can't buy pepperballs or markers that use pepperballs.I know when I try to buy a marker on Amazon more than 7.5 jules Amazon said"NO"
I have the HDR50 but was sort of disappointed in it. At the end of the day a simple sling shot hits harder and more accurate. I do like the look of the other two but not sure they are worth the effort? In your opinion.?
@@stokie1035 yeah I did give it a try. It's a bit more painful than I thought it would be, gauged by previously shooting at layers of card and the scant amount of damage done to that, but perhaps not painful enough to stop a determined person from robbing your money from the teapot or under the mattress? Which is why I am curious of thoughts on the upgrade?
@@stokie1035 yeah I want some of those but can't seem to get hold of them here? Tried a few places but they turned out to be European vendors and were unwilling to send them out, something to do with export tax? Any idea where to buy them. In the UK?
I've got the Walther PPQ in .43, the HDS (double-barreled), and just got a 20 joule version of the HDR. Now I'm thinking I might be getting ANOTHER Umarex product very soon. LOL
@@zubysan ok i mean i think wr should ask some one i mean the reason why asking its beacuse you dont want to use co2 in the winter time in the winter time use HPA
Whilst the pistol was loaded, there was no C02 primed in the pistol so it would not be able to fire. Same with the Shotgun. But when you look down the barrel of that shotgun if it points at you, it does have that impact on you to make you duck; it does look so real!
