No, they just give you some coins to buy bits and bobs with. The event items are worth 3x the usual amount non event items are worth and you don't even get 3x the coins for duplicates. You get the standard 200 and the epic anniversary skins cost 3000. Maybe if they made it so that they were 600 for duplicates I wouldn't be so salty about it

Jeez guys, maybe your luck just sucks. I've probably paid around $60-80 for loot boxes over a year's time and a few times have been disappointing but I would say out of every 15 boxes I get 1 to 2 legendary unlocks (sometimes a duplicate which sucks) and on a typical box I get at least 2 blues and often a purple. I've really never felt all that gypped, but I also go into it understanding that the odds are I won't get what I want.

I spend 5 bucks every time they release an event, not to gamble but to support their dev team and their continued support, the boxes are an added benefit.

This would be a good idea for indie games but on a triple A title or large game developer, I don't think so. Firstly, they would have to deal with what ads are displayed; do they feature audio, video, animation etc. Secondly, ads are known to negatively impact the "quality" of the product - obviously for platforms like RU-vid where ad revenue is naturally the main source of income it's fine. A good example is Apple, who are very careful with what they allow on their system as they hold a level of quality and "class" that many of their consumers expect. Putting ads in the loading screen for something like Overwatch (I know you didn't specifically say OW) shows Blizzard in a poor light - figuratively and literally. You don't expect a developer giant like Blizzard to need to rely on ads in game to fund themselves. They also don't want other products and services linked to their product that are of a lower quality or devalue their own product. Obviously though we already see ads in places such as free mobile games but TL;DR it makes games look cheap.

But why is it a gamble? I don't like to gamble, I like to work for things I want, and in this case I got nothing for all of my work (to be specific I got shit). And of course the main argument still is that I already bought the game, it is not a free game so that you get to support the dev's through buying things, which is kind of normal to me. And "it's only cosmetic" argument doesn't really fly any more, at this point if they sold powers and abilities the people would crucify them, so the skins are really the only way to justify a micro transaction.

Coins are bullshit: one skin costs 3000 coins so in order to get it you'll have to spend a "WTF?!?!" amount of money to get crates that'll give you duplicates. There is so much money syphoning here it is strange how Blizzard HQ is not on fire right now.

DevilGearHill regular players will simply gather that many coins by playing normally between events. And it's a number of coins that can be easily obtained by simply once more, only spending on a skin you really want. There were no skins in the last event I wanted so now I have enough to buy the two skins I want in this event if I don't get them in the lootboxes I get through playing.

Firstly I'm on console and paid 40 bucks for it and secondly I do agree that it is very expensive but it think you've just been extraordinarily unlucky and I truly do feel sorry for you in that respect. Generally I think the lootboxes aren't a feasible way of getting the skins you want but rather the coins and then getting skins in a lootbox is a nice extra, but that's not everyone's approach and I see that, I'm just expressing why I don't have a problem with it personally.

theefatmexican The difference is execution. Evolve is great ideas that were executed poorly. Even though Giants: Citizen Kabuto did that style of multiplayer years ago and much better. Overwatch is one vision executed with insane precision. I'm not an FPS guy, but a well made game is a well made game.

Evolve took shit because it was designed from day 1 with the intention of being a vehicle to sell you DLC. Thats why it was so ass and boring. Unrefined, unpolished, not thought out at all. All it was doing was hoping to find a playerbase, doesn't even have to be big, and then sell them 50 different pre order pacakages, early access to playable characters, and a bunch of other invasive shit. Overwatch was designed to be a good game, and it is. This skins stuff is extra. I would love it if they let you directly purchase the skins, but they dont. Still a very good game, and very deserving of whatever anyone wants to spend on it.

Contextually the dev was referring to making a multiplayer that could be easily expanded in the future (which helps keeps things alive). Other games (e.g. Overwatch) do this and yet _they_ got shot down for stating it. The pre-order bonus was a skin and/or quick access to some characters. Wow so confusing. The game had 3 editions. Wow so confusing. Overwatch exploits the same psych tactic behind slot machines to take people's money when they could easily set up a normal shop. But Overwatch gets a free pass because its popular and Blizzard is infallible.

also evolve was hated for it's only online feature. Every one even me were upset about it, or even with titanfall (but that a different example)

It's not entitlement. It's frustration that they release over a hundred new items and put it in a timed event to entice people to buy lootboxes. If you're just playing and leveling up to get boxes, you'd be lucky to get even a quarter of the items.

I've played them all, but when it isn't about making money (something people would buy) then they give absolutely no fuck, Hearthstone is still crashing on exit after three years of being a buggy piece of shit game, the engineers don't give a fuck because people keep playing it anyway. Diablo 3 has had absolutely 0 substantial content for the past 3 years, Starcraft 2 is holding up but the esport scene is slowly dying, Hots is non existent and they have to pay or give incentives for people to watch the esport events, WoW is just a constant grind that never ends, there's a metric fuckton of well thought out suggestions and constructive criticism to ameliorate the game on their forums and reddit but they give absolutely 0 fuck whatsoever. Overwatch is their new baby so of course they make it seem like they listen, but in a couple years it'll suffer from the same treatment their other license receive. A company this size CANNOT care when there's that much money at stake, the people at the top decide what the engineers should and shouldn't do, as long as it doesn't affect their image or their money, they won't move a finger.

Maybe make your word alittle more hearable, and try to talk to blizzard about it instead bitching about it on a youtube comment. But I guess im doing the same. Every time I've had a problem or a bad experience in a blizzard game it was either addressed right away or fixed. But I guess weve just had different experiences in their games. Take a look at the Hearthstone subreddit and tell me if people look satisfied for a game that made so much money and close to 0 improvement since beta. When that thing came out about "You won't be able to get all the skins and shit" for For Honor and people just started whining on and on about how that's "bs" I was like "If you can still play the character what is the problem." People crying about this need to get a fucking life. Seriously! Why is a DIGITAL COSMETIC that important to you? I don't mean to sound ignorant but god it's just so trivial that it is frustating to think about that people out there actually say "The game is terrible" Just because there character can't look a certain way while they play.

I think the cosmetic items also affect the gameplay in For Honor.

The gear in 4buber does actually effect your stats in game, which somewhat makes this apples and oranges here. As to people getting upset about having to pay up to $700 to unlock everything, I just gonna say that no company ever puts product up for sale with the expectations of sell the consumer only a fraction of their "inventory".

Shoot, with the recent patch of letting orders and matches give more steel, 15k STEEL is easily attainable. Allowing you to get every character in the game that is to come in the future with a little elbow grease (They each cost 15k.) People also complained about Ornaments which does not affect gameplay whatsoever. Also if you may reword your last statement. I didn't quite get it. Did you basically say "No company ever plans to sell a customer only a fraction of their inventory." Or did I read that wrong? Because if not my answer is; Yes companies frequently do plan to do just that. If I misread I'm sorry I misinterpreted your statement. Could you rephrase?

There isnt enough money in the world to saciate any company. WoW had 16 million paying accounts at one point, and it still wasnt enough. So untill they make more that, i dont know, 5 billion a month, they will not make enough money. And if you buy a game and look for rewarding feeling in the dress-up part of the game... Play flash games i guess? Also due to inflation 40$ for a AAA is the cheapest they have ever been. N64 games cost like 110$ (inflation), had one mode, no online, graphics looked like shit, and if they came out today would cost like 5$. In F2P its way worse, because its never cosmetic, but P2W.
