My swissy passed away this July (he was 12yrs). He was my everything and I miss him terribly. It’s great to watch someone on the opposite end just starting out with a new pup. I wish you the best of luck with your beautiful Mila
Sorry for your loss. We lost our Maximus last October, he was my everything too. But, we picked up 10 week old Swissy in late November. He is wonderful! Our first Swissy. Looking forward to watching this one grow.

Thanks for the support! We will look into a chain slip lead. Our breeder says our dog can be a show dog and she uses chain slip leads when doing that. So it’ll be good to train her to go into “show mode” when that’s on.
Hi! Thanks for your videos. As you mentioned, there's not too much information about the breed. I'm researching if this breed is the right match for me. Do you think this dog would fit for apartment living? Do they shed as much as a German Shepherd? Are they as kind as a Great Dane or more guardians as a Rottweiler? Do they have too much energy as a Doberman or as a Great Dane?
Hi, I've been told that this breed can do well in an apartment, but it's alwasy preferred to give them enough space. Mila likes to sleep on the couch majority of the day and get her exercise from a daily walk and running around our backyard. If you can give them the exercise they need, then you should be fine. Their hair is not as long as a German Shephard, but they do shed due to them being double coated. They are a watch dog, but not a guard dog. They will bark at everything new and are very loud, but she is not aggressive and is a big teddy bear. Of course that comes down to socializing and training.
We are trying to pick a Swissie breeder (our first dog) - how important are AKC breeder merit levels, bronze gold, etc.? Also, how did you choose between a girl and a boy? What are the pros and cons?
For our breeder, she has a high merit and very reputable. We never asked about what status she was, nor did we know anything about it. But she was well known in the swissy community and very close friends with my friend who recommended her. After meeting with her multiple times and seeing her dogs and puppies, we knew she was the one. As for male and female, size is a pretty decent difference. Our breeder also compared males as the goofy lover and females the more composed and willing to impress. But that’s just her opinion with her dogs she’s bred. Every dog will be different and have a different personality. We love our dog and we were wanting a make. But we fell in love with her and after her evaluation and temperament test, we knew she’d fit best with our lifestyle and what we want.
Awesome. Did you do the evaluation and temperament assessment yourself? Or is that something a breeder does? We have to drive quite a bit to a breeder so may not have a chance to see the puppy in advance. Great videos, keep them coming!
Our breeder did it. We had a long interview about us, our lifestyle, and experience. She then used that and recommended a couple puppies and explained each one of their temperaments and personalities that she could see. Remember how we wanted a male? Well his temperament and personality didn’t really vibe with us, but milas did. And now we are best friends and the most popular dog in our neighborhood!
