OXALATES--A Hidden Cause of Chronic Disease.
Oxalic Acid-A tiny molecule that is naturally occurring and when attached to a mineral it is called Oxalate. Oxalates form crystals like calcium oxalate-Kidney stones. (80%)
Sources:
1. Certain plants make oxalates for mineral management, seed germination and self-defense. High oxalate foods include spinach, rhubarb, beet greens, chard, certain nuts and seeds, cocoa powder, figs, kiwi turmeric and certain teas. (20-40%)
A single green smoothie with 2 cups of spinach contains about 1500 mg of oxalates.
2. Oxalate is a metabolic waste product in mammals with no known function. (60-80%)
Higher amounts of oxalates are made when:
**Deficient in B6
**High doses of vitamin C are taken or injected. Vit C is partially converted to oxalate.
**Some fungi make it, possibly for mineral management, especially in soil.
**Can be made by Aspergillus fungi living in the body.
Oxalates are anti-nutrient by stealing minerals. Soluble oxalates attached to mg, ca, fe, zn, cu etc. which can cause mineral deficiency in growth, reproduction.
Negative impact of Oxalates
· Corrosive to lining of GI, stresses the kidney, deposits into arteries and other tissues.
· Triggers inflammation causing membrane and mitochondria damage, fatigue.
· Nerve damage and brain.
· Depletes antioxidants i.e. glutathione.
· Destroys connective tissue-injury prone and poor recovery.
· Uses vitamin B6 depleting B6 which in turn causes increase bodies production of oxalates. Depletes biotin.
That is why it can create so many symptoms: GI, lung, genitourinary, bone health, brain. Association with mood, fatigue, vulvodynia, autism, gout, joint pain, osteoporosis etc.
IBD, gastric bypass and antibiotic therapy can increase oxalates. Certain bacteria in the GI can break down the oxalates.
Oxalate issues are not sensitivity or allergy, it’s toxicity.
Oxalate dumping
Strategies
**Eat less than 50mg of oxalates per day.
**Increase water consumption.
**Increase calcium citrate, magnesium citrate, potassium citrate intake.
**Boil the high oxalate foods which will decrease it 30-87%.
**Take a B complex with B6(P5P)
**Lactobacillus acidophilus and bifidobacterium lactis have enzymes that degrade oxalates.
**Chondroitin sulfate and biotin
**Lactobacillus Acidophilus
**Bifidobacterium Lactis
**Lemon juice in water
**Epsom salt bath
**genetics
Oxalate are excreted through feces and kidney(40-50mg/day)
No best test for oxalates.
Patients with advanced kidney deposits of oxalates can show very little oxalates in the urine.
Organic acid testing could give us clues to oxalate issues and candida.
Genetic SNP for SULT(Sulfotransferase)-oxalate problems can negatively affect this pathway in the liver.

@@jn2400 Did you ever hear, that people have their right to misery? The older I get the more I think this is true. To give advice, unasked, about diet or medical decisions is almost always not appreciated. If someone asks you, then tell them. Even then it is almost never the case, that they will try out your idea. If people do not ask for advice, do not give it. Everyone needs to get insight for themselves, we are different, luckily. Often medication/diet/herbs that help one person is definitively not helpful for another person, so I think it is a just principle, that everybody needs to find out for themselves. If you withhold information when someone is searching and asking you, that is disgusting. Nevertheless to give the precious information to people, who maybe do not have an issue or are totally not open for it, because something else is more important in their lives at the moment is like giving pearls to swine, no sane person would do it. I hope this is helpful. 👋🏼💗

I’ve been low oxalate for about 13 months. Starting in childhood. Ear infections. Hay fever. Teenager, arthritis. Twenties, itchy skin, psoriasis. Thirties, numbness in fingers, symptoms of celiac disease. Went on a gluten free diet and things improved dramatically, but the psoriasis never fully cleared.🤔 Anyway, at the start of 2023 started to get peripheral neuropathy after a particularly stressful period. Luckily for me by April 2023 I had discovered sally k Norton, and realised what the problem was. I’ve been gradually poisoning my self 🤦🏻‍♂️. Peanut butter. Whole grains. Plant based milks. Nuts and seeds. Sweet potato and beets. Turmeric and cumin. Spinach, to name just a few of the culprits. 13 months on low oxalate and no more psoriasis or peripheral neuropathy. Both will reappear slightly when the dumping is strong, but soon go away again. This has highlighted how important freedom of choice is around food, a one size fits all approach would be, imo a public health disaster.

Exactly - and mostly because not every two "bodies" are made equal. The human body is extremely complex, and genetics play a major factor on how the body responds to the world. It is important to know about oxalates, lectins, etc., but in the end if we don't have issues like kidney stones, we should just live with the awareness of them. If we fine-tune our nutrition based on anything and everything that we find on RU-vid we are potentially causing problems somewhere else. Listen to the body. The other consideration is that for every "eat this" video there are many "don't eat this" videos as well. Eat clean, eat whole, be active, sleep well, and know your body. @@philautiaetdiligoalii4089

Dr.Sung! I want to thank you millions of times. I heard about Oxalates, and to learn more about it I clicked. You have mentioned of muscle pain etc. I do exercises 5 times a week in a gym; weights, pilates etc. Not straight away but later I always used to get muscle pain. I thought it was normal. Every info suggested taken magnesium; tried all different types of magnesium but didn't have any positive effect. After watching your video I decided to try B6 and Biotin. I was already taking multi B. I took just B6 and Biotin after exercise. No muscle pain. I thought, no just coincidence. I took the next day, and the next day. No pain. I don't get pain anymore in my muscles. I don't take on weekends when I don't do exercise. Why no one mentioned this before everyone giving the same info including my GP, take magnesium. A simple thing solved my biggest health problem - having muscle pain after exercise. You are one of the people I will remember. All the best wishes.

How can you measure/weigh 50 milligrams of oxalates? How can anyone tell a certain vegetable has a given amount of oxalates? These health videos are getting really goofy. People say eat your vegetables don’t eat meat another says completely the opposite. People say never supplement with calcium others say the opposite. What good is any of this information. If you watch a video they will say your misinformed, if you miss a video they will say your uninformed.

There are lists of oxalate content of veggies, nuts, fruit that you can find from reputable sources on the internet. Usually they list the oxalate content per 1/2 cup or 100 grams. Yeah Spinach is CRAZY high in oxalates. Sweet potatoes have some in them but if you boil them, the oxalates reduce somewhat. Right at this very moment my skin itches in back of my knees from oxalates. Best...

I needed this. I wish I could eat a carnivore diet but bacon just triggered my oxalate reaction. I'd been doing ok with grains but my body eventually rebels with them. I do ok with a plant based nutritional regiment I have found to be safe. I have read that blood type can affect being able to eat meat. I'm A. Omega fatty acids seem to help me purge oxalates also. The common denominator between all of my allergies is oxalates. My mom presented as neuro divergent and my grandmother. I get super aggressive when I get oxalate overload. I always thought I was a sociopath because of these issues. Now I know better. Thank you though. I'd just been thinking last night that I needed to figure out how to get them out of my system faster. The mg of the vitamins was something I needed. For anyone who may need help this is my daily nutritional intake. I do about 6-8 servings of Orgain organic protein powder, a couple of cups of the organic morning blend from CostCo with about a cup of the organic 4 berry blend, a liter of their organic coconut water. A can of salmon (usually. I haven't lately) with lemon pepper and some basil. My vitamins are magnesium glycinate 100mg, vitamin D3 2-4k IU, B12 5k mcg, b1 300-500pmg a day, 35mg of zinc, about 150mcg of a potassium iodine/iodide supplement and up to 10mg of boron. About 10-12 prunes and 2 reign energy drinks. Not the best but it works for me. Good luck everyone.

I followed the blood type diet book almost into the grave. I'm A. I went fully carnivore and healed so fast ppl were actually pissed. They loved when I was starving myself on plants I guess.... I had so many health issues I couldn't count them all. I was so weak after years it was a miracle when I found out about carnivore eating. Good luck. And yes I'm 100% sure of my blood type. I also believe the author of the book when he explains how he came up with his thoughts. Thing is... A glass slide is not the same as the inside of our bodies. Whatever clotting that happened on that side mixing A blood with beef protein CLEARLY is undone by some other bodily function as I went only beef for 90 days and have never felt better after that. I struggle with addiction to these plants and grains but I keep pushing towards eating a heavily animal based diet.

Have you ever seen one under an electron microscope? The science on using lemon juice to prevent reformation is inconclusive. The fact that you feel the need to do something to combat oxalate content in your food should tell you, you know they're no good for you. Incredibly painful urination from the stones is another sign. Your body uses up calcium to get rid of the oxalate. And, you can't get rid of the deposits of oxalate throughout your body with lemon juice. So many reasons to avoid them.
