Australia here. Long time subscriber and have cooked many of your dishes. The last few years I have been experimenting with different Asian cuisines. Absolutely loved Korea. Cambodia, OMG! I have just started with Japanese and am really loving it. I think this is something I'm going to really enjoy. I just wish I could share it with my food hating husband! (he's a steak, eggs and fries man, occasionally with some Brussels sprouts and pumpkin).

The name “oyakodon” literally translates to “parent-and-child donburi”! This meal, and katsudonburi, were two of my favorites from the small donburi shop across the street from me when I was a short-term Baptist missionary in Japan (1978-1979). Such great memories of a lovely country and precious people. ❤ Thank you for the recipe!

Also a favorite of mine. A high quality dashi powder makes a big difference. Less salt, more fish, better flavor. A great dish to teach kids to have in their repertoire. Can do it in the microwave! Y'all are looking great. Happy Father's Day to Dude!

Thank you from Toronto for presenting this dish! My parents in Vancouver introduced me to your channel. Anyway, this was a childhood favorite. Interesting fact "oya" means parent, and "ko" means child, hence the chicken and egg. I like to slice the chicken so it is easier to pickup with chop sticks. My spouse does not eat meat, but does eat eggs, so I have used firm tofu instead of chicken. If you like this one, can you do gyudon (beef bowl)? There is a fast food restaurant chain in Japan called Yoshinoya. It was amazing! I would love to try your version of gyudon if you do it like that restaurant.

@FloLum Yes I do as well, I was talking about the broth, I did some research awhile back on authentic won ton soup, and they prepared the broth using a very certain type of fish, to make the broth, I gotta say, it looked so good, I could almost smell it through the TV, lol

I have a question that no one seems to have time to answer. I hope that you do. can I stir fry with a wok if I don't have a hood without any problems? Thanks in advance.
@FloLum
@FloLum Месяц назад
Honestly, I don’t recommend it. I do for the channel because of my set up. My kitchen is too small to film in. You usually want to cook on at least medium/heat when using a wok so there is a high chance of smokiness with the searing of the food. I always have to air out our space after filming. Hope that helps.

Can you tell me where you got that stove you use?
@FloLum
@FloLum Месяц назад
At T&T, local Asian supermarket. If you are in Canada, they are nationwide. It is a butane stove. You can also find a link to a similar one in the video description.
