On a sad note. The koala that legend of a woman rescued was taken to the Koala Hospital on the central coast and given the name Trevor by the vets and carers. Sadly Trev's burns were too severe but thanks to the woman and volunteers Trevor passed passed pain free and peacefully. R.I.P. Trevor.

As an Aussie, I'm absolutely embarrassed by how piss weak and gutless our government are especially in times of need. I'm not into politics regardless at the best of times but these muppets in control need to take a good hard look at themselves. We pay enough taxes to fund our fire-fighters with the equipment and resources they need but do they get it.............Of course bloody not !! A large number of our fire-fighters are volunteers who have their own houses and jobs that they leave behind to help everyone else bar themselves, they sometimes lose their own house while saving someone else's and our government can't do bugger all for these champions. It's piss weak, pitiful and down right disgusting 😡

Yes you don't know politics and have zero idea what you are talking about. If you want to blame someone blame the Greens who stopped the controlled burn and the arsonist that lit it.

As an ex firie the 2019/2020 fires were horrific. A year before this shit fight a group of ex and current state fire commissioners knowing how bad it was going to be went to Scomo pleading for resources. Surprise, surprise, it was denied. In my area for every fire truck there were at least 10 mozzies (a private 4x4 truck with a 1000lt Pallecon and a fire pump). I spent two weeks either on a dozer or a tractor and disks making fire breaks to protect my families’ property. In NSW all the fires were controlled from Sydney. The bosses had no idea what was happening on the ground.

Its interesting that one of the last shots of the volunteer firiefighters included Tony Abbott a former Australian Prime Minister. He was a bit of a dickhead himself with some pretty extreme right wing views but at least it highlighted the difference in his level of concern about Australia and its people compared to career politicians like Scott Morrison. Mckensie I can see you have a good heart with your emotion and although its sad to see the impact bushfires have on people, property and wildlife its something that Australia has been dealing with since time began. As the climate changes its expected that fires will not only become more frequent but more severe we really need our governments to step up with well funded policies aimed at lessening the impact. Like in most democratic countries today politicians are being driven by big business and the main concern is how they can line their own pockets rather than what might be coming in the future.

Yeah still makes me mad. Yes everyone deserves a holiday but when you're the leader of a country and the country is in crisis maybe hold off on it. Imagine if George W took a holiday after 9/11. And to say "well I promised my kids I would take them to Hawaii". I wonder how many volunteer firies had plans with their families they had to cancel because they were fighting to save people's homes on Xmas day, Boxing day, New Years Eve, New Years Day and the rest of January.

Hey guys, thanks for reviewing this video. Born German but raised Australian. I love this country and feel fortunate and privileged to have so far, spend most of my life here. Your review is just another reminder of its extreme dichotomy. Devastatingly beautiful yet savage in its capacity for destruction. Inhabited by people of arrogance greed ,ambition and growing intolerance alongside, humble genuine down to earth true blue folk ready to do anything to help in times of need. Fortunately the former are so far still in the minority. Fires are indeed destructive in the extreme to both humans and animals. Worse still, (not mentioned in the video,)is the aftermath for wildlife. Many also loose their lives in the ensuing weeks from their injuries caused directly from the catastrophe. Largely due to smoke inhalation, heat exhaustion, starvation and stresses resulting from loss of habitat. I witnessed so much of this as a wildlife rescuer that it has left me in permanent awe (and fear) of the powerful and unforgiving forces of nature.

I went to Kangroo Island in South Austrlia with with my duahter a few months after the fires came through. The whole Eastern side was burnt down. It's the size of England (not the whole of Britain) It was like a moonscape. No sounds from birds or animals, just burnt tress and ash. It was really sad. It's better now though.

I can still barely handle watching footage from that time without totally going back there. Our town was not burned, but surrounded at one point with no safe exit, and three fire-fronts, the one to the east being the Gospers Mountain blaze, the single largest contiguous bushfire in any significantly populated area, in world history.

Most of the world just can't imagine the scale of these fires.....,they spread faster than an express train, they can create their own weather patterns as they go.The property damage is incomprehensible,& then there's the animal losses........ truly. I've seen people of any age crying uncontrollably at the scenes of native animals by the thousands & domestic livestock incinerated where they stood. Holocaust is a word often used.....but a holocaust event was just the fire-starter to these blazes, fought mostly by volunteers, god bless every last one of them. The truly sad thing is that every summer Australia holds its' breath knowing that this WILL happen again.

you can never get a true understanding of these fires, sadly several firies lost their lives inside their fire truck, they had no hope of getting away, I live 16km from where the fires reached here and all the towns and city was under watch, the embers were carrying that far, smoke was so thick you couldn't see 1m in front of you and we had to stay in doors as much as possible. while our land has evolved to fires, the intensity that they burned is not natural, climate and poor practices since colonial people arrived, has made our country dryer, even sub tropical rainforest was burning, which is not suited to fires, the animals normally have ways to escape, such us burrowing, but the fire was so intense, it either moved too fast for most creatures or the heat penetrated soils way deeper than normal, cooking them, our plants came back as they always do, but they took such a long time, the animals that survived, had no food or shelter, so numbers of many animals in some areas declined, even after it was over. I implore you to watch some videos on Aboriginal tradition land management, the world needs to pay attention to the way it's been done for 65,000-160,000trs (65k proven, 160k is modern theories based on the most recent findings on both Aboriginal and human evolution in general), even the people in Nth America, before settlers, used the same style of regime, it's the best way in my opinion to fight fires.

What makes it more infuriating is how nearly 2 decades of the right wing Coalition govt of the Liberal Party (Republicans) and the Nationals (The Tea Party), cut help for years prior, climate action was non existant and firefighter funding was stripped back constantly for a decade and water corruption where our major rivers have been bled dry by Cotton Farm oligarchs so the entire country was dry as a tinder box and most days that summer were 40c or higher (110f) so when you have rorted funds for anything that could've mitigated the disaster they were constantly told was coming, and it finally comes, there was no hope for us even if #ScoMo didnt go to hawaii, we had our legs broken from the get go

A liar, a cheat, a supposed Christian with no Christian morals who offered hope and prayers in lieu of practical help in every dire situation but freely handed out tax payers money to billionaire party supporters. A PM who worked fewer days and took more holidays than any PM who came before him. He was voted out because he deserved to be. If you think the current PM is worse you’re deluded. Australia is the driest continent on earth....we get all kinds of weird weather....and some of it causes bush fires. Government doesn't like spending money on things that matter...such as controlled burning in areas that need it. They'd rather pander to the Green agenda of climate change and global warming b/s to win votes in the inner cities where the Greens have a brainwashed voter base. It also explains why we don't have nuclear power plants and instead waste billions of dollars on renewable energy sources such as solar and wind which will NEVER be sustainable. These idiots then claim the bush fires are climate related...to justify their agenda.

Aussie here... Massive fan of your channel and love Ozzy man, but his wailing on climate change is somewhat skewed IMO. I'm not saying it doesn't exist but in reality we as a country will not make a dent on pollution without the Indians, Russians and Chinese of the world chip in. You go back to permafrost days and even as much as little as about 100-150k years ago there was unbelievable droughts and 'world ending heat'. I'm not a denier, but sending the globe broke to fight this isnt the way, neither is electric vehicles that granted produce less emissions but in their manufactor contribute to much more CO2 per unit. Just my 2C 😅😅
