P0299 Trouble code for Turbo under boost resolved Yes : The repair worked and the vehicle is driving fine with out trowing any codes at all. It has been almost 24 months since the repair. It did fixed the problem.
This is a great job well done but if the turbo is old and hasn't got any service then it's recommended to replace because parts do deteriorate after milage adds up
You can fix it without heat. Just bend the bracket holding the actuator away from the wastegate a bit until it takes up the slack. You can do this without removing the turbo from the car!
Anastazi Sarigiannis is that the small bracket that’s located on the outside of the turbo, one side connecting to the turbo and the other to the linkage? Thank you
I wouldve removed the bolts holding the actuator on, and drilled a bigger hole, then used washers to secure the bolts back on. but now this gives more play giving you the ability to move it back away from the turbo (very slightly) then tighten.
It is too late to do all these test when the turbo is out. Turbo should be diagnosed before removing. Controlled shop air should be used to check air pressure. Good vedio
Ehsan Sadaqat thanks for the reply! i’m gonna order the gaskets for the turbo and try and take this repair on. never worked on vw before but i think i should be able to get in done in a day or two.
yes it does work for all Volkswagen and Audi turbos. I am sure it will work for all types of turbos . I was first to discover this and now I see many other people posting similar videos . My customer never came back to tell me she still has the problem. The problem was fixed one and for good .
@@expertshawn thank you, what do I need to buy? Intake gasket? Or is more like a kit? I recently buy a 2007 a4 quattro, I check diverted valve but is the new version, before buying a new turbo I want to check the adjusment.
@@cfrc9362 Just but exhaust manifold to cyl head gasket , manifold to outlet or down pipe gasket. may be some oil return pipe gasket. coolant pipe gasket. . Some old gaskets can be reused as well. Do not use silicone at the turbo at all. Good luck.
Great vid. Did the WG seal during test drive or was it still throwing the same code?? My Audi's turbo has the same issue. So sad the WG's are faulty on these k03 🐌.
@@milehigh3054 the only issue I see with this kind of repair is a flaw in the material. Turbos get very hot...if the temp allowed the WG to warp once, why won't it warp again? Seems to me like a forged WG would be the answer, but I'm not a mechanic
@@JoeB0604 you need to change your oil regularly in an engine too, the reason it happens is because the valve opens anytime you take your foot off the gas, and closes when you push in the gas, all of that over the course of 100k miles plus youll have that.
I have a 2006 Audi A4 with a check engine light turned on and found out it's a P0299 code... My mechanic wants to replace the entire Turbo saying changing the Diverter valve may not solve the problem and wants to replace the entire Turbo system. Any ideas? The diverter valve costs $50 and labor. Turbo will cost a lot more obviously. HMMM
The Turbo has to be removed in either case and a lot more labor than $50.00 . The labor is going to apply no matter what. The turbo does not have to be replaced if the valve gets repaired.
Interesting approach as I have been dealing with the same code on my 2010 Tiguan. The code/CEL only appears in or around the summer months when the temps are 75F plus and AC is being used. In cooler weather no CEL or codes present. It would be interesting to get your opinion on what is actually causing the door (flap) on the waste gate not to seat properly ? I understand that it has to do with play in the arm of the waste gate but were you able to determine the cause of this play ? It seems to be that the pivot point where the rod attaches to the arm that operates the flap becomes loose. I am assuming that this is attached by a rivet and this is why the actuator made by Forge is not applicable to these turbos. I have seen another solution whereby the rod is cut and then extended, I assume, in order to put more pressure on the waste gate door. The only reservation I would have in doing this would be that too much pressure on the door might cause an overboost which would be bad. It is too bad that someone has not come up with some sort of shim that could be added to the door (flap) that would close the gap. I guess this is not possible as the adhesive needed to attach the shim would not be able to withstand the heat.
it can be done with rod been cut and shorted (not extended) as you trying to use pressure of diaphragm in actuator to keep WG door closed and tied. Extended rod will make WD door even more loose.
Yes , the care I was dealing with was running great. The code was coming once in a while but there was no problem driving it . You have to get rid of the slack in the valve . You cold shorten the rod if it is adjustable or if you want to cut it and re - weld it . There are more ways to approach this issue. I experimented and at least found the cause of it. I see other people do the same thing but I was the first one to resolve this issue and I am not making videos everyday and night . I am not an U-Tuber. nor I make money from clicks. Just trying to put he solution out there. Thanks
The wast gate is open when decelerating. It closes when you need power. It will remain open even when you are gently accelerating . Only when you step on hard to take off or overtake someone then the wast gate closes.
Salam brother, I live in hamilton, my local mechanic quoted me 800$ for this code but he did not check the turbo. He already replaced the solenoid and the sensor. I'm running a 2013 A4 and the engine light went on and off twice, and now its on. If i go to etobicoke how much for you to check my turbo and see what the problem is? and if it is this problem how much would the repair cost estimate? He said I can ignore the code for now but im not sure if that's a good idea..
@@Warboss777 If it does not bother you having the CEL on, youll be fine, but as it continues to wear you will lose more and more boost, I would honestly take the turbo out one weekend and give it the fix, it doesn't really matter when, but just to keep the car maintained
I’m having this code. Wondering if this is worth trying - does the unit need to be removed from the car to do this? Or are you able to do this quickly on the car? I’ve seen another video of someone doing it in the car
I had it removed thing I was going to replace the turbo. You can do it by removing the catalytic converter or the pipe and as long as you can access the wast gate.
If it has and exhaust leak then changing the gasket will fix the problem and it will change the sound. Otherwise not change in the sound of the engine.
The labor will still apply. you have to remove the turbo and fix it on the bench. Only gaskets will have to be replaced and they are cheep. The turbo is expensive and you save the Turbo.
so much work and MONEY !!! for such little HP ! an audi is like a beautiful woman on the outside and a hot mess inside ! i would never buy again maybe lease one but at that point i’d be driving a loaner more than the one i bought
noel castro ok dumb ass i have four friends with audi’s and they are all made like shit something’s always breaking from small to major things it’s great if you have cash or like turning wrenches
I am sure it did, that seems to be the fix, either adjusting the valve arm, welding the actuator arm hole and redrilling or bending it up. the actuator arm will hog out the hole that opens the valve, so there is like .25mm play, enough to not seal the exhaust all the way.
The video shows someone vvery proud of the things he knows and though the other aspects of his life need work still wastes time making assumptions on repair practices instead of doing correct work which would make him money so he could replace the turbo not trying to melt the fan blades with an oxy-acetylene torch inch's from the Wg. What you can put your money on is that this didn't work or the second it did it would have been immediately posted, more than likely the fan blades broke off, but more than likely that flapper armature snapped off, you can't forge cast iron, that's why it's called cast iron, anyone know what happens to cast iron when you hit it with a hammer?. This pisses me off because there are probably people out there that can't afford a new turbo añd are forced to do it themselves so they teach themselves any way they can buy people. Like this mess it up for everyone.
That repair saved the customer $2300. in parts. Brand new turbo is guaranteed for only one year, and the repair we did, lasted up until now, more than 6 years. What to you call a good repair. ? Or may be you tried it and you don't have the skill to do work with that kind of precision . You wasted your time but other people did not. After all everyone has to make their own choice.
