I able to fix my Check Engine Light's (CEL) P0741 code on my 2007 Toyota Corolla by changing the Transmission oil; however, last week after I installed a new fog lights on this car, the Check Engine Light turn on again and the code is the P0741 - What the heck!!! P0741 is back !!!
I able to trace down what I did. Due to wire connection of fog light wires need to hook up to the battery terminal, I disconnect and reconnect the battery terminal. During this process, the battery terminal and area is pretty corrosive and I decided to clean it up with Baking Soda and then with hose it down with water by a garden hose. I believed the water leaks into the wire connections under/next to the battery and make those connection weak again. ( because the Check Engine Light is on and off and not always on.)
I able to determine the bad one is the one on the far right because I able to disconnect and clean the one on the left but CEL still on and off (your case may be different) However, I have a tough time trying to remove the one on the far right and the connector still won't come out or move at all. I have to go to Plan B.
I decide to use a pick to open up the soft rubber which is surrounded the wire and then put the electronic cleaner tube inside and spray / clean it up that way. After that, I use the same method to spray in the blower air to dry it up. After that, I connected the battery terminal and the Check Engine Light error code's of P0741 did not come back again.
I hope this work for you and resolve the stupid code of P0741.
Please let me know if you able to disconnect the far right connector and how did you do it. Is there a clip at the back or use WD40 or special trick to pull it up by leverage with screw driver or remove battery to make more room to work on it.
Thanks for watching.
please comment, subscribed and like. Please let me know if this resolve your P0741.
Other possible issue/fixes for CEL's P0741.
1) Dirty Transmission oil - Changed the transmission oil. (Toyota type T-IV or Aisin Brand)
2) If CEL comes back after 2-3 times transmission oil changed, then you may have to change Transmission filter (dirty filter) and at the same time change torque converter lockup solenoid (ROSTRA 520257), it was only holding with two nuts and a wire connector.
Since the transmission pan is dropped, this is the best time change the solenoid, it is about $50-60 depends on your model.

Good video, I had the same problem with my 2006 Toyota Corolla. I took it to O Reilly to get the check engine light checked for free and they showed me the tester with the code P0741. I took a picture of the tester and took it to my local mechanic so I could get an estimate. I showed him the picture of the tester with the P0741 and he gave me an estimate of $2500 to fix it. Way too much so I came back home and saw your video. I went to Home Depot and bought some WD 40 electronic cleaner. I watch your video again to make sure on the process. I took the wires off and cleaned them just like on your video. I put them back together and It didn't work the first time and the car wouldn't start either. I must have tried like 3 or 4 times taking the wires off and cleaning them. The last time I tried I put a small screw driver in one of the connectors and saw I had bent one of the little pins in the connectors. I bent the little wire pin back with the little screw driver and put it back together being careful not to bend it again. This time it worked the car started and the check engine light was not on anymore. I just did it yesterday and I took the car to work today and the check engine light is still not on so far. I hope it doesn't come back on. I have been driving it like that for a year because I didn't want to spend that much money on the car. Another problem I had was when I replace the battery back and reconnected it. The car was idling really low and stalling . So I check RU-vid again and it shows how to reset the computer in the car by Turing ignition on three times and on the third time you start the car and let it idle for ten minutes. That worked too my car is running good now, no more check engine light and no more idling problems. Thanks to you sir.

Thank you so much! My car had had this error code for many years. My multiple Internet search results, and code readers stated it was a bad solenoid or clutch. My mechanic stated it could be a bad sensor. I always thought it would be replacing a part, so I never got around to resolving it. But, after watching your video, I decided to remove those two connectors and clean them. However, when I remove the second connector, the female connector was full of oily water. I removed 99% of the water and moisture with paper towels and Q-Tips. The error code is now finally gone! I wish I knew this years ago. Lesson learned: don't rinse your engine with water. Use an engine cleaner or WD40 instead. If using WD40, I wipe it off from the bigger surfaces afterwards so that dirt doesn't stick to it. If using water, cover all the sensors and connections with plastic bags or food/plastic wrap and duct tape beforehand. By the way, to remove the second connector, I inserted a short, narrow flat screwdriver from the bottom up at an angle to un-clip it from its female connector while pulling the male connector with my other hand. Thank you again. Regards

Hi, Adolfo, thank you so much for your additional information especially on how to remove the second connector. As other youtuber commented here, this may be a connection/wires related issue and may not be a solenoid issue. Thanks for watching and thank you so much for your comments. 👍

I think I would do the cleaning on the connector first and if it did not work then I would perform the transmission oil change because it is still necessary for the transmission to have clean fluids and also it is easy to perform. If it still not working, then I would drop the pan and change the transmission filter and at the same time, change the solenoid. I have my first video related to P0741 on here and it has lot of information on the video's description SHOW MORE and also under my comments. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mMnMOqQLOWU.html If you go ebay below, on the listing's picture, it has a solenoid and the transmission, the TC solenoid is located on the corner, for my transmission, it is the one using the long bracket holding with 2 nuts and a wire. It is next to the transmission filter. The ebay picture did not show the transmission filter. As long as you remove the nuts holding the transmission pan, it is on that corner as shown in ebay. We had P0741 for the past 6 months on our 2005 Vibe (same as Matrix), reset would have the code come back in a few minutes. I did a filter and fluid change two days ago since several people said it resolved the same issue. My kid has been delivering pizza for almost 20 hours of driving since the flush and so far no codes. I make automotive coils for brake and transmission systems and can only venture a guess that the dirty fluid / clutch debris was causing the solenoid to stick and the fresh fluid allowed it to move free again. Cross my fingers, if it is not broken don't fix it.
@diycheapdaddy2113
@diycheapdaddy2113 2 года назад
Thanks so much for your information. You are correct, the major cause is the dirty Transmission fluid and/or Transmission filter and last is the TCC solenoid. I have put all the details on above "SHOW MORE" section under video description. I hope we can try the easy way first before performing major repairs. I totally agreed and if no CEL, I would not touch the transmission wire connectors; however, if someone drain and fill transmission fluid 3-4 times and also changed the Transmission filter and TCC solenoid and P0741 come back again with no performance issue on transmission. This may be something look into. Thanks so much for your comment and watching.

@diycheapdaddy2113

@@subzero___ Hi, subzero, that is a good question because does pending mean fail? or may be fail? especially there is no check engine light. Based on internet, if the code is erase, smog check station will know it has been erased recently and it will not pass. If the battery is disconnected and the code is gone due to no power, smog check station will know and car most likely won't pass too. In order to pass, the car has to be back normal driving under drive certain condition with certain stop, certain city driving, certain highway in order to get back to the normal way for certain xxx miles and times. I think the best is to check Smog Check station to confirm "what if" it has pending code. You may also discuss with smog station with option such as "pre-test" or "pass or no pay" or "free re-test" options if those are available in your area. @diycheapdaddy2113
@diycheapdaddy2113 Год назад
Do you have any check engine light turn on or these 2 OBD code happens before the transmission fluid change? It is rare when your car runs perfectly and suddenly have Check Engine Light and codes related to transmission 48 hours after the fluid changed. You may want to double check your transmission level and trace back what may go wrong. I don't know much about these code and Toyota Camry; however, I believed you can search the two codes out. Here is what I got from internet: A P2757 code will be reported when the vehicle's onboard powertrain control module (PCM) detects an issue in the torque converter clutch pressure control solenoid circuit. This aspect of the powertrain automates the clutch application in order to optimize the engine's use of fuel. OBD-II Code P0471 is defined as a Exhaust Pressure Sensor "A" Circuit Range/Performance The Exhaust Pressure Sensor tells the engine control module (PCM) how much pressure is in the exhaust manifold. If the PCM determines there is an incorrect signal from the Exhaust Pressure Sensor, the PCM will set code P0471. Notes: If your 2014 Camry is CVT transmission, there is a procedure need to be follows, it is more than a simple drain and refill. Good Luck.

Sorry for the late reply. Got some plumbing and fridge issue in the house. I don't know much about Honda Accord; however, I can tell you this P0741 is a false alarm on my 2007 Toyota Corolla because I am 99% sure it is not transmission related but a wire connection issue to the transmission. As of today, my car still running great without error code and the transmission is shifting flawlessly. My suggestion is found out the similar connection wire to the transmission on your Honda Accord, it may be similar issue due to loose or corrosive wires. Also, I don't think it will hurt if you never change your Honda's transmission fluid. Also, please make sure you follow the Honda Manual Step by Step 100% and use only OEM Genuine Honda Transmission for your particular Year and Model. Honda Transmission is very picky. You have to use OEM Genuine Honda Fluid. No if or But. Even if you did not fix this P0741 after OEM fluid change, changing trans. fluid or/and transmission filter is part of the maintenance scheduled and it should help extended your transmission life for other future transmission related issues. Good Luck and hope you can fix it.

Hi, Jeff, I don't know the part name but it is basically a Wiring Harness connected to the transmission. The location is on top of the transmission. I believed those wires are then connected to the solenoids inside the transmission. I believed after so many years, the connectors are opened to battery acid (right under the battery), rains, snow, oil, dirt and water contamination and became corroded or have a contact issues. Hi, I don't know much about Hyundai Elantra; however, the code are generally across the board; therefore, if you have not change your transmission fluid for a long time, I would give it a try because it may cause by dirty transmission fluid. In additional to that, even it may not resolve the code of P0741 but good fresh transmission is good for the parts inside the transmission even if you perform the fill and drain, it only remove portion of the transmission fluid but it should make the transmission parts last longer. This is very strange because lower window should not related to Transmission torque converter lockup solenoid's code P0741. You may want to reset it and see whether the same code come back again. Thanks for your comment and thank you for watching.

Where did you really put electronic cleaner, wondering there was no space to put the liquid, will appreciate it if you response

Hi Richard, you can try like my way in video by using the hook open up the wire a little bit so that you can put the electronic cleaner tube inside. Also, it depends on your model, if there is one plug/wire is not use, you can use the hook to pull out that little round plastic (make sure don't drop it or loose it) then you can use that hole to spray the cleaner. After it is dry, you can cover it up again to avoid dirt or water goes inside the connector. The best way is to open the connector but I have arthritis on fingers and it is not strong to disconnect the plug especially the connector is in an odd position. Hope this helps, Thank you for your comments and thank you for watching.

@@diycheapdaddy2113 thank you! I'm gonna look at it in my matrix today. I have P0741 but I don't feel the problem with shifting. The car needs a couple more seconds to shift and it makes a small bounce but the car is old, I have 200k miles. I guess it's ok for old cars to work a bit slower

@@ayvenaswulff6820 You are correct and same issue on my 07 Corolla. There is no symbol of transmission issue except the check engine light's (CEL) of P0741. There is a video on Scott regarding this issue which I have posted here.. Here is that video just in case. It starts at 3 : 20 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-W7LG2tDCgF8.html In my opinion, I would keep driving except in California, we have to smog check once every two years and I need to resolve that CEL before smog check which I did by cleaning it and avoid water get into it again. As of now the CEL did not come back yet. (knock on wood). Good Luck.😃

Please click above "SHOW MORE" under the video description. It has lot of information related to this code. In my opinion, I would perform the transmission oil change first (even it may or may not work but it did not cost much compare to a new transmission or torque converter. Also, it is part of the maintenance and at least your transmission got the new fluids benefits in the future). Thank you for watching.

This is weird cause I put the diagnostic scanner in my Malibu 2002 and also gave me the code PO 741 that means the same valve defective . Can be use on Chevrolet and Toyota ? I was told to keep driving driving eventually it will reset but in my case no luck yet 😩 I will also check my battery terminals / my transmission fluid and if I can figure out where exactly is located the such part Will replace it only cost about $ 39.00 new

Hi, Hector, thanks for your comment. Based on my research, the cheapest way to fix this is to perform a transmission fluid change. Also, even it may not work to on the code, at least you have new trans. fluid and should be better on the transmission in the long term. Thanks for watching.

Civic 2012 que pieza es
@diycheapdaddy2113
@diycheapdaddy2113 Год назад

Good Afternoon this is Benjamin i have followed your video on 2007 corolla just want to learn the colour code for the transmission solenoids.
@diycheapdaddy2113
@diycheapdaddy2113 2 года назад
Hi Benjamin, thanks for your comments; however, I do not have the color codes of those solenoids. I do know this can or may be related to the TCC lockup solenoid (not working or the opening has dirt on it). That solenoid is near the transmission filter with 2 bolts holding it. If you review the comments on my first video, I have some information pointing to that. Thanks again for watching my video.😁
