In this video I’ll show you what I bring with me when I take my painting outside. I am not an experienced plein air painter - I’m just sharing what I found works well for me and I hope this video will help and encourage you to take your painting outside this year.
Simple & Playful - are the 2 Key Words I use when painting outside. Join me for this out door painting adventure with interruptions from cats and dogs that insist on getting attention in the middle of painting.
Simple shapes …playful color or interesting texture.. the only two things you really need for an intersting watercolor painting.
My outdoor painting kit consists of the following:
Watercolor paints
2 brushes, one flat and one round
Watercolor paper and sketchbooks
Granulation medium
Paper towel
Jar with water and a screw on lid
Metal clip to hold the sketchbook open
Warm or cold beverage
Cushion or small folding chair
Hat
Basket, tote bag or backpack to carry everything
Optional:
Fineliners or bottled ink
Masking tape
Water brushes

I love that your furry companions joined you! They always want to know what we are doing. Thank you for sharing this video. I was out yesterday sketching on the beach and really didn't give myself just some time to take in the emotion of being present. As a result I can see the flatness in my sketch. Next time I will just sit and observe first!

Really enjoyed the video; it really inspired me. Also your gorgeous furry helpers reminded me of a time when I was always joined in the field next to my old cottage by an "outside" cat, old rooster, a bantam hen and a hen pheasant that lived in the stables. They all needed to know exactly what was going on.

I haven’t painted en plein air yet and you’ve inspired me to have a go as I really don’t need to take much equipment etc with me. I’m not sure my cat would be so happy to have a day out though…

The Cat is a must, an absolute must, to take along with the equipment - endless source of distraction, inspiration, camera-lens attention demanding... and perking one up each time, every time 😉. Beautiful scenery, past-time with good company - and that rapeseed field must be totally buzzing with happy bees in innumerable numbers.

I still haven't painted outside yet, but there's a workshop coming up at the studio. And a watercolor workshop too! Cheers from New England 🍻

I think one dog and one cat is the minimum requirement for plein air sessions. We have some huge paddocks of canola here in Tasmania and it's a joy to see when it's in flower.

Yes I totally agree 🐶🐶🐈🐈‍⬛ next time I’ll try and bring them all - but I don’t think I’ll get much painting done 😆

You made Plein air painting enjoyable and fun! Sometimes I find myself overthinking the experience and setting unrealistic expectations for outdoor work. What a pleasant gentle artist you are, and with your calm tone you teach and inspire us to enjoy the occasion, whatever comes! Thank you! ❤

It saddens me to see that in your area they are spraying in the sky as well to block out the sun. We have barely seen the sun in 4 years here because of the spraying and trails that spread out to cause a white haze and then a thick chemical smog.

What are you talking about, I'm confused
@kerry5586
@kerry5586 3 месяца назад
@@joannayoung4578 Start paying attention to the sky, not only in your own area but also in videos you watch of other areas, and see the grid patterns where spraying is taking place. It is called geoengineering or cloud seeding to change the weather. The trails forming grids spread out and create a haze over the sky. Governments used to deny they were doing it but more and more are admitting that it is taking place. In Australia the government has recently said that they are stopping cloud seeding at Snowy Hydro while they assess the impact it has been having. Two states in the US have just banned it in their airspace.

I'm not sure what you were seeing, but I'm pretty sure those were H1 Cirrus clouds. Very thin filaments and strands. I know seeding clouds is a common practice, though I agree with you on that
