It's always so good to see others using the Plaid and FolkArt craft paints for their 3d prints! I've tried the "expensive" paints, but I actually prefer the craft paints in most circumstances. Great job and great tutorial!

@ItsMeaDMaDe 2 года назад
I think the more affordable craft paints if used right can produce amazing results. That being said I do also love the more pricy ones like Vallejo paints. I think their is a time and place for each. But as a whole I love my craft paints. I was thinking about doing a face off video. Paint the same model using "expensive paints" vs. "affordable paints" be kinda cool to see the results. Thanks for the comment love to hear peoples opinions hope your still liking the series :)

Can a model be primed just using a base paint like black? Or do you have to use a specific primer?
@ItsMeaDMaDe
@ItsMeaDMaDe Год назад
Yeah the main idea is to give you a good base layer. Some filaments don’t take paint well and that is when I use a rattle can primer.
@hiaggkappoor4529
@hiaggkappoor4529 2 дня назад
Whats the function of prime then? I thought it was necessary for paint to stick well, but using another acrylic paint as a primer would do it bacuse its a paint itself and might not stick to surface well? Second question is , is it not better to use white for base because it wont reflect darker under the painting ? Im a newbie and i appreciate any help 🙏

Another easy to follow guide! Thank you! I do have 1 question, though. I started from painting gunpla many years ago and people from the community emphasized on using thinner instead of water when doing hand brush. However, I've seen several people that painted minis and 3D prints prefer to just use water to thin their paints. My question is, what are the + and - of using water instead of thinner? Thank you once again!

@ItsMeaDMaDe

You can prime a model what ever color you want. The purpose is to create an even layer of paint to allow the following layers to stick to the model well.

Hey Chris what do you use to dry the models? is that a heater or just a fan? what settings do you put it on to help dry?
@ItsMeaDMaDe
@ItsMeaDMaDe 2 года назад
Yes it’s a little space heater. I rarely turn the heat on it. I typically just use the fan function. It never takes long with air blowing on it. A tiny fan would work great. Since this video I also got a tiny solar turntable that spins the part for me while the fan is running. I have to just say if you ever use heat to dry be careful don’t dry them too fast. It can not only melt your piece but if the paint dries to fast it can crack with some types of paints.
@PowerAirSimulations

Another great video! Thank you! I do have a question for you. I'm using acrylic paint on a 3d print and I'm trying to make it look metal. I'm using Createx Wicked Color Pearl Silver for the top coat. My base coat should be black I believe, but I don't have a gloss black paint. I think you need the gloss black base to make the pearl pop right? Do you know if I did the black base and then did a gloss clear coat and then did the silver would that work the same? I'm going to actually pickup some plastic spoons to as well to test.
@ItsMeaDMaDe
@ItsMeaDMaDe 2 года назад
First! Thank you glad you liked it! 2. You are on the right track. Get some spoons and test first always! I always save failed prints too so I can test on. 3. I have use a gloss coat on a matte black before you get the same results. So I think if you go that route you should be heading in the right direction. I’ve never used that specific metal paint. But you might want to do a test with some grays too. Just to see the difference might be worth testing a spoon or two. It’s hard to give a straight answer with that kinda stuff when I don’t have specifically what you have to do proper tests. But it sounds like it should work.

Can you prime with a rattle can like you displayed , and then air brush the model ? Or do you have to use the airbrush vellejo primer if your planning to airbrush ?
@ItsMeaDMaDe
@ItsMeaDMaDe 2 года назад
Oh no you don’t have to use airbrush. I use rattle can a lot. But only when it’s warm outside. You don’t get a good bond when it’s cold outside and where I live it was still cold when I made this video.

How many minutes does it take for the first layer of paint to dry in front of the fan or without fan?

Depends on the paint and how much paint you put on it. It’s really hard to say. You should be able to see it’s dry and when it’s dry to the touch.

To my untrained eye, this model, with all those nice cracks between the rocks, looks like a prime subject for washing. What made you choose to instead paint the whole thing the “shadow” color and then drybursh the “base” color everywhere?
@ItsMeaDMaDe
@ItsMeaDMaDe 2 года назад
Yes it could of been washed easily. This is just a beginners series and I didn’t want to add a bunch of extra stuff to it besides paint and a brush when it came to the painting portion. I just wanted to focus on helping people understand the dry brush technique. With any paint job there are infinite ways to paint it. This one is no different. 😁
@ItsMeaDMaDe
@ItsMeaDMaDe 2 года назад
I also realize I didn’t answer your question about the two coats. You do a base coat to see if your model has any imperfections they really show up if you do. Then you can sand it down or apply more filler. Then you paint the model. Primer also helps with adhesion to the print.
@hellterminator2295
@hellterminator2295 2 года назад
@@ItsMeaDMaDe Thanks for the super fast reply! I was asking because I'm about to paint my first model and I'm heavily drawing on your older tutorial (the Hulk one) where you used a wash. My model is a stone tower where I thought a wash would be perfect for shading the cracks between the stone bricks. Now RU-vid recommended to me this new tutorial where you didn't use a wash and even took a little jab at the Hulk model, so I was afraid you may have discovered some issue with using ink washes on printed models. P.S.: Sorry for replying from an alt, but it's not coming through on my main. Ever since RU-vid removed dislikes, they really turned those “spam” filters up to 11 and my main seems to be hit particularly hard. Apparently, I'm not allowed to make more than 1 comment a day.
